Being a mexican and living here i felt threatened in some way, but thanks to ajan brahmali i have been able to look things in a different way, with a more open mind, and i'm truly grateful for that. Thanks for everything
Thank you Ajahn Brahmali for a great talk! Many people are having a tough time dealing with the results of this presidential election. This too shall pass. Everything is impermanent.
I am so glad you guys are back online. I've been listening to the Buddhist Society of Western Australia since 2012. 2 days ago I was told I will be out of a job by the end of next month. You have no idea how helpful your talks are - and how the Buddha's teachings and the Dhamma help me to cope. Thank you very much!
Thank you Ajahn Brahmali. So much wisdom comes from all your talks, by far my favourite teacher of the Dharmma, I could listen to you all day. Great to see you back. We are going through a tough time as a family, and this and other talks have been incredibly helpful for me now and in the past.
I love how this alludes to the priorities of this life, especially for a person seeking to find lasting peace or happiness for this life and any further lives (if you're into that).
Welcome back Bhante, it is great to have you back, it is great to hear the dhamma from you again! Thank you for sharing with us, it makes me happy and peaceful to hear you. May we all be able to hear more of this. Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu. :)
I just got to the end of your talk. Do you know what, I was searching specifically to hear Ajahn Brahm's perspective, his humour, his ability to assuage the feelings of discomfort I had after what happened last week. But I found only Ajahn Brahmali -- but I am happy I did. This was the first talk I ever heard of Ajahn Brahmali's, and I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you very much for sharing with us.
It is also my first hearing Buddhist reflection on the election. I hope you are letting of ill will, I am workin on it. Too difficult to take sides and be judgemental.
Thank you for this Ajahn Brahmali, I was searching for talk like this and it made me feel a lot better after the events of last week. Really put my mind at ease. I needed this.
Also being good compassionate Etc is very hard for most people and to conquer that is very hard so another way is to be neutral and not to do anything which is Evil/ Bad and to just remain in your cave
We are the grass in the meadow and the wind is all different emotions. No matter how hard the wind blows we, the grass, need to stand up straight and tall when the wind stops blowing so hard. Emotions and events come and go and it us who is in control if we fall or keep standing.
If you are a practicing Buddhist and on the left politically, what happened election night is a classic Buddhist outcome. A father with two sons, one is loving, kind and compassionate, while the other is just completely the opposite. Both are vying for their father's love and position. Who will the father choose? The loving, kind and compassionate son ... Or the one who has none of these qualities? ............... The father will pick the one without (WITHOUT!) these qualities. Why? Because he doesn't have to worry about the son who is loving and kind. The son who is compassionate will still be compassionate and kind ... whether or not he's chosen. So the father will choose the troubled son so he can work with him and teach him. The father has love for both his son's equally !! EQUALLY !

I think the problem is tt ppl can't deal with the shock and helplessness because things are going to affect them very quickly. So, ppl need to be given the tools and methods to learn and go through lessons of survival. Ppl need to learn how to get together to give a certain amount of support to each other.
FontediCalore Ajahn has been travelling in the U.K. On a speaking tour. He is currently on retreat, teaching. Services will return to normal programming soon
Does this mean that we should not protest or do anything to change the situation? Should we only accept whatever has happened including the sudden increase in open racism and bigotry in the US?
This teaching, in my understanding of it, is to just show you the inevitability of a shift in the status-quo. Acting out of a place of wisdom, which is difficult when clouded by our uncertainties and attachments to perception (which is subject to constant change), is pivotal in trying times. Simply accepting the way things are in the world, allowing for peace in-between the expectations and failings of the world (which, in truth, are essentially the most natural thing about the world), is not going to change the world externally. If you act skillfully, wisely, in your speech and acts -not harboring ill-will- then that is how you thrive here and now through adversity. If you lead by example, from a place of compassion and wisdom, perhaps more than just your own perspective and perception will change.
SS I live in a mostly Indian community in the U.S. what is usually bustling and somewhat noisy place. You can hear a pin drop for days. I have wanted this for so long..but not for this reason. They, like me are afraid and realizing our life path may have to change. Things are neither good nor bad, and you make your own karma. For me I am accepting this outcome as a vote of many people I cannot understand. Do I need to understand them? is that helpful? There is open racism but there is also people being very gentle kind and generous in this stressful time. You will always be in the best place I think with that attitude.
Gee SS are you referring to the racism against white or are you one of those folks who only cry about racism against blacks? Would they be doing this is Hitlery had won? You must be upset about the white folks getting dragged out cars and beaten because they voted for Trump...oh no wait, you're not? I don' t come hear to hear a monk talk politics ........if Trump supporters were attacking blacks the way Hillary supporters are attacking whites the news would be all over it...oh wait.....only certain lives matter. ....hypocrites.
Your attitude and understanding play a grand role in things. Of course it is not okay for people to be taken out of their cars and beaten. You already answered your own question.
Basically the choice was who you thought could do the least damage. As a tax paying white person in America, I am not OK with immigrants coming here expressly to get on welfare. There has been a lot of overt racism against white which gets under reported. THis is fanning the flame of anger. My solution is secession - let the states go their own ways. You want to support of bunch of freeloader? Have at it. I want the Constitution in its original form. But can guarantee the folks here are only addressing perceived racism against blacks, not whites.
I'm sorry, what is a "good" atheist and a "bad" atheist? Why is the sister's atheism qualified for the purpose of this talk? Would it have been necessary to qualify if she had been a "good" Jew or a "bad" Jew?
I took that to mean "coming from the right place" in context of the dhamma talk. There a lot of atheists that are that way because they hate religion and want to do harm to it, there are also atheists that truly believe through experience and introspection that there is no God, etc
Being a mexican and living here i felt threatened in some way, but thanks to ajan brahmali i have been able to look things in a different way, with a more open mind, and i'm truly grateful for that. Thanks for everything

The monks were on Rains retreat for many weeks. Then when they got back (I'd read) they had equipment problems and a few talks weren't recorded.

ben moretti
why are you not recording Ajahn Brahm's talks since he is on a speaking tour? All it takes is a dictaphone next to him.
FontediCalore if I had the divine ear I would do that
@fontedicalore i second that.. plz get them recorded
Sorry to go political, but the vast majority of Americans have no concept of the stress our politics causes others...
