I can sell you a speaker which "produces silence" I have a bunch of the lying around! Just 500 Euro a piece! If you do not connect them to anything they make NO SOUND! Amazing!
Artur underrated comment😂😂😂
Muzo Makers: “Muzo has over a billion sounds which means, that it can generate realistic sounds.”
Muzo in reality: *restaurant noises*
True😜
If they wanted to make an attempt, they could have at least put a microphone on it, inverted the sound it was hearing, and played that out of the speaker. It would have possibly had some actual effect.
@@turkeyboy5543 Probably not. The device would have to know the distance to both of your ears to the speaker(s) and the microphone(s) and all noise sources - as well as any reflecting surfaces and possibly generate an inverted sound emitted from the speaker(s) (again taking reflecting surfaces into account) travelling a little faster than the speed of sound (processing the incoming soundwaves and inverting them isn't done in zero time). If you are in the middle, the device is to your left, and the noise comes from the right you'll already heard the noise before the device can do anything about it besides amplifying or adding to it (adding in context = echoing). Well insulted headphones have a chance to do it. This device - not so much.
@@turkeyboy5543 you can't do that digitally though, because there would be too much latency. They would've had to put actual R&D into it and develop their own circuits.

I built something like this in high school. It was a team project for engineering. My partners dad was an EE and helped us design it. We placed it in my station wagon that had a really good audio system with a 15" and 2 10" woofers along with 2 way 6 1/2" and 6 x 9s.. it worked well but made you feel sick when you had it on for too long. The idea came from when he had the left channel out of phase of the right side and it cancelled out the sound which tripped us out. It was one of many projects that the instructor kept

I've used phase cancellation on music before, so I can better hear and transcribe individual instruments. Blew my mind how effective it is, so I experimented with it. Sure enough, if you add 'room' to it the waves don't match up anymore and the whole thing falls apart.

You hold a firecracker close to your ear = boom, instant noise cancellation. You will be sleeping with no sound bothering you every night from now on.
I cannot recommend against this strongly enough. I've done this. The hearing damage makes your ears more sensitive first and things like tinnitus are loud-as-all-frig.

About 12 years ago, I came across Flat Speakers. I reasoned that they could come close to noise cancelling for room, though in a very focussed area. As they have greater surface, they create flatter waves (not the spherical you saw in your diagram). Of course every room will have its unique topology. You could have a microphone at the "bubble centre", close to your head for example. Then eliminate noise that way. Anyway, it was just a thought experiment but didn't get in to too much detail.
My son (9yo) and I love your videos. He is really inspired. Your humour makes electronics very accessible to all.
This same tech has been used on certain business jets. Pretty sure it was called active engine mounts (at least on the Citation X).
There were actually microphones attached to the engine mounts and would record the vibration. I can’t remember where the speakers were installed on the plane, but the systems eventually stopped being used as they did not make much of a difference.
Something like that is far more practical because of the lack of variables in the system.

Could you explain how it works?
how did i get here ? ;-; he just slams the wall once every second. Hence 1 Hz. But the real question is what happens to the rest of the 30%?
Hello? It's Donald Trump on the phone? Well, we need a truck full of medals for David...
If you increase the weight of the pendulum striking the wall to several kilos about the weight of sledgehammer it sometimes stops the noise for good.

Well we have a device that makes you feel just like in a crowded restaurant, chose from a variety of restaurant types, fast food, diner, expensive hotel and the list
Goes on !
yeah, exactly. that's not active noise cancellation. Isn't it supposed to sample the sound, and reproduce a negative wave to cancel the noise? Just making a restaurant noise from a speaker is not active noise cancellation. What a bunch of twits. If your wallet hurts after backing this, just remember: "Stupid is supposed to hurt". That's how you learn not to be stupid.
"Old McDonald ... "
hahaha that almost killed me! :D
I loved your assessment ElectroBOOM - GOLD!!!
I just bought ear plugs at a fraction of the cost, and they have a much better noise cancelation ratio.
What ear plugs?
Get the memory foam style plugs at stores like Shoppers Drug mart, or any hardware store. Squeeze thin, insert into ear, and let it expand; cuts most noise (except what comes through the body of course). I love using them for sleeping at night. Much easier to fall asleep in dead silence. ;) (especially if every little thing can wake you up)
yeah right man :)
The absolute best earplugs i've had are Hansaplast noise protection earplugs, no friction noise whatsoever when you move your jaw or your head and very high comfort, very little to no blood vessel noise too. Second best were 3M orange earplugs. Everything else is basically not even worth trying, Ohropax and store brand are fine but nothing special, and yellow ones from the pharmacy were just the absolute worst, like they're stuck in last century.
If you want to listen to music, a decent on-ears noise blocker is Urbanears Zinken. The memory foam pads conform to the ears surprisingly airtightly after a minute or two. They don't have active noise cancellation at all, fully passive, but as far as that goes, they'll easily beat smaller Bose active ones, and better music reproduction too. Some people also just get construction site earmuffs and wear their in-ears underneath, that's supposed to be pretty good too.
@Siana Gearz Very good review, thanks for the info. ;)

I was at band camp when I was in high school. They played the music from a recording but as you indicated in the initial setup, they had one speaker wired in reverse. It was an open field and if you stood in exactly the right place the only sound you heard was the echos off the houses in the distance. I have been intrigued by this ever since. Magnavox found a way to cancel engine noise into a microphone (aircraft) in WWII I think using similar tech. I want to make silent drones… still researching. Thx!!

"Once everyone else was settled in the Hall, Professor McGonagall told the champions and their partners to get in line in pairs, and follow her. They did so-"
I spent about 1-2 hours reading the book to find it.
Oh wow it’s you!
Even the setup you used to demonstrate active sound cancellation is the best case scenario as if you are trying to cancel out external noise, you would first have to detect it using a microphone, process it so that it ignores the desirable signal produced by the speakers(which will cause a infinite loop of emitting and detecting signals) , amplify it and then output it. Even if you circuit is extremely fast, it will still have a phase difference which will cause superposition of the noise and cancelling signal causing formation of nodes and antinodes.
So you will end up with some places with near silence and some with even more noise than before.
That is why active noise cancellation works only on small apparatuses and that too when paired with passive noise cancellation.
