Thank you so much for this video. I was diagnosed with Type 1 at 40 years old 2 weeks ago and I've basically been walking blindly through all of this. I had put my first sensor on my stomach 10 days ago and I didn't like how much it bled - so I wanted to try the arm. I'm so thankful I found your video. I did it right along with you, and your helpful, real instruction helped me not feel so much anxiety. I got it done and it's now warming up! Thank you! I'm subscribing

@@DiabetesStrong I see that you use your arm, which I have always preferred with my Medtronic sensors, but I haven’t been on a Dexcom sensor for 5+ years. I’ve been waiting for my warranty to be up on my Medtronic 670 G system. When I was on Dexcom, I used my abdomen, but I much prefer my arm. Dexcom says that it shouldn’t be in a spot that you lay on, but obviously that’s not the case if it’s on your outer arm. Do you find that you have any trouble with that spot? I know this video is a year old, so I’m not sure if you’ll get this message or not but I’m starting my pump training tomorrow and I have to put my sensor in tonight. Thank you very much. I was told nurse would show me but with covid I had no call and no nurse. Much more comfortable than the Medtronic that has a very deep needle that then is removed and a plastic wire stays. Much more accurate too. My favorite part. My fingers don’t burn all the time. Best of luck.
Covid certainly makes starting on a new medical device more challenging, I hadn't thought of that. I'm glad this video helped you and that you're liking the Dexcom

Thank you. I'm getting my Dexcom in 2 weeks moving from Libre sensor 2. I'm Type 3C diabetic & noone I know has 1 so THANK YOU..... LOVE FROM LONDON ♥️
Thank you for posting, tried inserting the sensor on my 9 year old boy following the quick set up instructions, when I added the transmitter, he started to cry in pain, he could feel a needle and had a wobble about diabetes. After watching your video, I will try again. You speak very clearly and it was easy to follow x
I’m sorry you both had a bad experience. That must have been tough 😕 The needle retracts into the device and doesn’t stay under the skin only the sensor does. I wonder if the needle bruised him and if the pressure of applying the transmitter was hurting. I hope it will go more smoothly next time
Thank you for replying, we've tried again and this time the sensor with the transmitter does not hurt😀. Like you said it was the pressure from the transmitter that hurt the first time. I can now see his glucose readings on his iPhone and my Motorola. He's gone to school today, so fingers crossed everything goes ok. He is the only kid in the school with diabetes. Love your videos, will keep watching💙
Thanks so much for the video. I have a Medtronic pump and use my stomach for my sites. I didn't want to add another patch to my stomach so watching you use your arm was very helpful. For anyone who thought it hurt to insert, go up to a wall and push your arm against it. It will plump up the area so that when you insert, it does not hurt. Hope that helps.
Thank a lot for the video; it’s very assuring. Im a parent of a toddler that has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I have just received his Dexcom and this video helped me get a good concept of it.. thanks a lot
Oh good! I'm glad it's helpful. I know diabetes is a lot, especially at diagnosis. The more you learn, the more sense it will make... but it will take time
Thankyou for your video, my son just upgraded from a G4/5 to a G6 and this was our first time applying the new G6. Your video made it so easy many thanks.
I hope you'll love it as much as I do. Getting a CGM was a game-changer! And what's this with being "worthy" for a pump? Are there really still endos out there who have that mindset? And chance you can see someone else and get started?
Thank you! I've only used my stomach when I had a g4 and it wasn't a good spot for me, now I know how to put it on my arm my g6 will be so much easier!
My wife just upgraded to the G6 from the G5. I put the sensor on her arm, but had it horizontal. I saw you did it vertically. That should make it stick better next time. We may try her stomach area sometime. I agree that the alcohol wipes are the most important step to get it to stick well. Thanks for the tips!!
Where on your leg do you use the dexcom g6,I'm guessing it would have to be on the thigh area, just wondering if it would be on front, outside or inside of thigh and if one spot might be better or more comfortable, thanks, I love your videos, I've been diabetic for 43 years, and thanks to people like you Im still learning something new all the time♥️♥️♥️
Thank you, I'm glad my videos are helpful. Yes, on the thigh, upper thigh where I have a bit more mass. I place it a little to the front so it won't bother me when I sleep on the side. Works great there
Thank you for this video. I just put on my first sensor. I got it for free to try and last week I tried the Libre 2 for free as well but it fell off randomly after 7 days lol Geeze Louise. I really liked it while I had it. I hope I like the Dexcom one too... Libre was an amazing experience. But I wish it make with something to place over the sensor to make it really stay like how this Dexcom one has. Take care!
Thank you! I've done the trial before so I've luckily seen how to do it. But I was surprised when I finally got one of my own and my kit arrived without any instructions! I'm gonna try my arm next time instead of my stomach!
I would just switch arms and be careful to choose slightly different places each time. And just a note, if you live in the US, the back of the arm is considered off-label
I read in a previous video not to press hard when pressing the orange button as pressing hard can cause bleeds. After using my G6 for past 6 months I had my first (and hopefully last) bleed. I had to remove the sensor (total waste), and now I'm waiting for my "Once bitten twice shy" thing to subside before I insert another sensor. BTW it WAS BLEEDING HEAPS!!
I just got diagnosed with Gestational diabetes and I found that pricking my finger four times a day is very hard for me, especially since I’m scared of needles and blood. Would this be a good alternative?
Yes, both Dexcom and Libre would be great options. Check out my latest video, where I compare the two. Hopefully, that can help you determine which system would be best for you
Yes, the transmitter has a 3-month battery life. So don’t throw it out until the battery is dead (your receiver/app will alert you). You changed your sensor every 10 days and reuse the transmitter
Congrats on your new Dexcom. What place is best is very individual. I get the best results on my arms but know others who prefer the stomach. It’s easier to see what you’re doing when you put it on the stomach, so I might be a good place to start with
I hope she gets approved for a Dexcom! Here are the links Uni-Solve liquid glue remover ►: amzn.to/3fJb4MQ TacAway glue remover patch ►: amzn.to/3ae4tce
I've been hesitant to insert on my arm since I've had multiple instances when I bleed too much from insertion on my stomach. I fear it might be worse if I try to insert on my arm where it is more taught and I have less fat compared to stomach. Have you had any issues with bleeding after insertion? I notice your arms are very toned!
I don't have a lot of issues with bleeding, but you're not alone, I know others who tend to bleed a lot. One trick is to ice the area first (for example with an ice cube). But bleeders are annoying, when I do bleed I find that my reading often aren't as good
You can eat and drink. I do find that eating a full meal during those 2 hours can make the sensor a bit more inaccurate at the beginning of the sensor's life
I use a glue remover and just peel off the sensor (Video about that here: ruclips.net/video/9JdUHCDm3U8/видео.html). There’s no needle sitting in the arm, only the small sensor. The needle gets retracted back into the application device
Do you need Tegaderm film so it won't pull away from the skin and keep it on to make it last? I have to on my Medtronic but looking to change. Thank you.
I think it depends on your skin, but I generally don't need to use an overlay tape. I'm not a huge fan of Tegaderm, the plastic bothers my skin, so when I do use a tape it's usually one that's fabric, such as Skingrip
I recently was on vacation & jumping into a lake & being more active every day. I felt concerned about it staying in place so I bought some over-sized bandaids & taped over my sensor. It worked fine.
I'm gonna try this after a couple of monthly injections that the nurses do on both of my arms. So, now I've got potentially 4 spots to rotate my CGM in. Hopefully, that is okay. I've only been using the Dexcom for 2 months and it's always been on the stomach.
Bleeders usually still work for me but for some that results in inaccurate readings. To keep an eye on it. If it’s inaccurate you can request a replacement from Dexcom
Also - is it normal for the dexcoms to bleed? The one on my stomach bled, the one on my arm is bleeding more than the stomach one. It's not seeping into the white part - yet - but, it makes me nervous!
It can bleed a bit, but if you find that it's painful or the readings become inaccurate you should contact Dexcom for a replacement. Some people will unfortunately bleed more than others. You can try and ice the place where you want to place the sensor first, that helps some. For more tips on bruising check out this video: ruclips.net/video/EeoA-iDPIgU/видео.htmlsi=Z5ZlmjeflFP3XCc-
I was able to get my Freestyle Libre 2 to stick for 14 days by washing the skin, using a provided cleansing cloth and using alcohol. I also used Skin-Tac to make the area sticky. I have eczema so have to use lotion hence the washing, cleansing routine to remove lotion & dead skin. Did you ever find that skin oils or lotion wasn't removed just with the alcohol wipe and that affected long-term adhesion? I'm brand new to the Dexcom system and am just wondering about how good the adhesion is.
The latest sensor glue really sticks on me. I can get away with just cleaning my skin with alcohol. Sometimes it will start to peel around the edges but I haven't had one come off befoe time in a while
We just changed the new transmitter. We paired the transmitter and the sensor. Paired with the phone was fine but tried to pair the sensor with the dexcom receiver it didn’t want to work..after the msg said wait for 2 hrs sensor warm up.. not even 2 hrs then it said failed.. tried couple times.. what do I do wrong? How do I fix this? Thank you
Did you update the receiver with the new transmitter number? And if the sensor failed completely, both on the phone and the receiver you might have a faulty sensor. If that's the case you should contact Dexcom and have them send you a replacement sensor
@@DiabetesStrong the sensor works on the phone but not the receiver monitor. We use both because just Incase the phone has loss signal then my son can check on his receiver. That’s the case
Instead of using Dexcom supplied reciever, How easy it is to use your mobile phone as receiver? I an using Samsung Z fold 4 phone and would like to use this device as receiver. In past have you published any video showing mobile phone as receiver?
I generally use my phone as the receiver and prefer that. You should check if your phone is compatible, as not all phones are. You can look it up on Dexcom's website. This video (ruclips.net/video/Z_RRb_yVFHY/видео.html) shows how to adjust the alerts on both phone and receiver and most of my newer Dexcom videos (ruclips.net/p/PLP1_U1UAmvW7LBcCKjRIcEVD8pQocRCXZ) show the app as well
Showering isn’t a problem. I’m just careful not to pull at it. Generally, it sticks fairly well. If it’s on my abdomen I often place it above where I’d wear a belt to limit the risk of it getting pulled off, but that’s about it. If it does start to peel I’ll add an overlay tape
Hello it is me again. So does anybody kkkw if I can use an old transmitter in a new setup applicator thing ? Like what I am trying to say is thst , so my first system came; I got it working and it was great, but by the second day I accidentally ripped it off with a couple shirts I had on, so Dexcom sent me out a new replacement : but I can’t find the new little transmitter box! Am I supposed to use my old one ? Ty Mark from Newfoundland.
Hi I got my new replacement kit but I can’t find the actually little transmitter or transmitter box ? Can I use the old transmitter that I used for 1 day into my new application patch ? Oh my
Hi, the transmitter battery lasts 3 months, so don’t throw that away. Just apply a new sensor (the one that sticks to your skin) and pop in the transmitter. Hope that answers your question
I know it can be a little nerve-wracking the first time. Probably easiest to start with the stomach (so you can see what you’re doing) and then try out other places later. I hope you’ll find the CGM as helpful as I do
I didnt prefer dexcom as i was more comfortable putting anydevice over my arm rather than stomach. Hence i chose blucon which was simple and just had to be placed over freestyle libre sensor which i was already using.

Thank you, this simplifies everything.
Good, I'm glad
Thank you bella!
How often can I use the back of the arm? I'm new at this. Thanks for any advice.
I would just switch arms and be careful to choose slightly different places each time. And just a note, if you live in the US, the back of the arm is considered off-label
Great video.. I have used the libre freestyle and libre 2 .. lately they have been so so and I feel like after 2 years of using .. I have out grown it
I read in a previous video not to press hard when pressing the orange button as pressing hard can cause bleeds. After using my G6 for past 6 months I had my first (and hopefully last) bleed. I had to remove the sensor (total waste), and now I'm waiting for my "Once bitten twice shy" thing to subside before I insert another sensor. BTW it WAS BLEEDING HEAPS!!
It seems, that when it’s a bleeder, it bleeds A LOT. I hope you requested a replacement and that the next one goes on without an issue
I just got diagnosed with Gestational diabetes and I found that pricking my finger four times a day is very hard for me, especially since I’m scared of needles and blood. Would this be a good alternative?
Yes, both Dexcom and Libre would be great options. Check out my latest video, where I compare the two. Hopefully, that can help you determine which system would be best for you
The comparison video is here: ruclips.net/video/T-axn99YnEU/видео.html
Thanks Ms Lady am new to this and at first having it on my stomach was painful… Especially if your top heavy 😂
Soo good and explained so well!!! Thanks!
Thank you so much 😊
Great instructional video. Thanks for being an encouragement for all!
Oh good, I'm so happy to hear that. Thank you
Thyank you so very much for the video!! I recieved my dexcom g6 today. i recieved 9 sensors but only 1 transmitter. Is that normal?
Yes, the transmitter has a 3-month battery life. So don’t throw it out until the battery is dead (your receiver/app will alert you). You changed your sensor every 10 days and reuse the transmitter
Great job. Thank you.
Thanks 😊
This is very helpful 💕I just got my dexcom and I'm a type 1 diabetic. Is the arm better than the stomach? (I would love you as a mom , your amazing)
Congrats on your new Dexcom. What place is best is very individual. I get the best results on my arms but know others who prefer the stomach. It’s easier to see what you’re doing when you put it on the stomach, so I might be a good place to start with
@@DiabetesStrong thank you so much 😌💕
Thank you!!! Just did my first change
Awesome!
thank you
Just watched with my 9 year old daughter hoping to get her dexcom soon, thank you. Could I have a link to the glue remover please?

Thank you for this very informative video
You're welcome
I just got the dexcom but not trying it until next week but do you apply pressure when you insert it or no pressure?
No pressure on the actual applicator, only on the orange button. The applicator does all the work for you. Good luck with your new device
Diabetes Strong OMG thank you so much because the directions didn’t say pressure or not but thank you and you just got a new subscriber
@@isabellapockevich8984 thank you 😊
I've been hesitant to insert on my arm since I've had multiple instances when I bleed too much from insertion on my stomach.
But bleeders are annoying, when I do bleed I find that my reading often aren't as good
So there is a needle??? I keep being told just sensor no needle
In the 2 hr waiting period for warm up can you eat a snack or drink water/coffee or is it totally noting by mouth?
You can eat and drink. I do find that eating a full meal during those 2 hours can make the sensor a bit more inaccurate at the beginning of the sensor's life
Hi, I wanted to know if you have travel to Central America and use your dexcom or freestyle ?
I used it when I traveled to Costa Rica. But I brought it with me, so I don’t have any experience with buying it there
How long sensor maintains accuracy or how often needs changing?
Dexcom lasts 10 days. Most are accurate throughout the 10 days but some lose accuracy towards the end
Amazing video, very helpful! Do you always insert in the same area? Do you switch between the side or back of your arm?
Thank you. I switch locations to give my skin some rest. I rotate between the arms, legs and stomach
@@DiabetesStrong where on your legs? Is it the thigh area or lower?
I've never inserted below the knee but have seen others do that
Can you use skin tac wipes on the Dexcom 6?
Yes, both the adhesive and the adhesive remover
How do you take it off with the adhesive and needle
Hi. So this product does not inject a needle in your body? Just to make sure I understand. Thank you for video !
The applicator does have a needle in it. It will quickly punctuate the skin and retract, only leaving the sensor under the skin
I'm gonna try this after a couple of monthly injections that the nurses do on both of my arms. So, now I've got potentially 4 spots to rotate my CGM in. Hopefully, that is okay. I've only been using the Dexcom for 2 months and it's always been on the stomach.
I hope you like this placement
Thank you so much for video just got mine very helpful
Glad it was helpful. And congrats on your new Dexcom
Is it OK,to put in your arm and u see a little blood around the adhesive?
Bleeders usually still work for me but for some that results in inaccurate readings. To keep an eye on it. If it’s inaccurate you can request a replacement from Dexcom
I’m getting tested for type 1 diabetes and I just wanna be prepared wish me
Luck
I have type 2 diabetes yay…
Hope your doctor visit goes well
@@DiabetesStrong thank you so much!

Sometimes it will start to peel around the edges but I haven't had one come off befoe time in a while
I will try this I get nasty rashes on my stomach from this sensor . I never got any using the libre but i will try this on my am .
the eversense e3 6 month sensor is the most accurate and convenient one year sensor available soon

Not a bad question at all. This video walks you through that ruclips.net/video/8-GuFLyOCic/видео.html

Yay! Hope you'll love it
We just changed the new transmitter.
This video (ruclips.net/video/Z_RRb_yVFHY/видео.html) shows how to adjust the alerts on both phone and receiver and most of my newer Dexcom videos (ruclips.net/p/PLP1_U1UAmvW7LBcCKjRIcEVD8pQocRCXZ) show the app as well
Where can we get heavy duty tape to cover the device ???
My go-to is Skin Grip (theskingrip.com?ref:diabetesstrong) you can use my code "DIABETESSTRONG" for 10% off on their website
Does it have any side effects on health?
No, some might have a bit of skin irritation but I"m not aware of anything else
@@DiabetesStrong can u find more informations abt its side effects on health and body, plzzz?

@@DiabetesStrong Thanks aloooot for this help. God bless u
Omg it was so easy I was terrified until I did it with your video. I'm in tears of joy. Thanks so much!!!!
Glad it helped!
How do you shower with it in without damaging it / go to gym?
Showering isn’t a problem. I’m just careful not to pull at it. Generally, it sticks fairly well. If it’s on my abdomen I often place it above where I’d wear a belt to limit the risk of it getting pulled off, but that’s about it. If it does start to peel I’ll add an overlay tape
Wow that is a huge piece of plastic that gets thrown away. I wish they could make that reusable in some way. 😊
I completely agree with you. I hate the amount of trash all of my diabetes gear generates
How do you take it off?
You peel it off like a bandaid. If it’s really sticking to your skin you can use a glue remover (more here ruclips.net/video/9JdUHCDm3U8/видео.html)
Is this painful?
Generally not. But just like injections, if you hit a nerve you might feel a little discomfort
Thank you for this. I just switched from libre but the app isn’t compatible with my new Samsung s22 phone….urghh
Oh no! That’s super frustrating. I don’t like the receiver too much but it will do the job
Does the sensor have a needle that goes into the skin?
Yes, a needle quickly inserts the sensor under the skin but is the pulled back in to applicator. So the needle doesn't stay under the skin
On a scale of 1 to 10 how painful is it?
99% of the time it's not painful, so 1. Once in a Blue Moon, you'll hit a nerve and it might be a 6. But I can't remember the last time that happened
Does it actually have a needle? 😮
Yes, the needle quickly inserts the sensor under the skin. It doesn't stay there so you're not walking around with a needle under the skin 🙂
The patch applicator ripped out but my old transmitter seems fine ? Or is there timer on it ?
Hi I got my new replacement kit but I can’t find the actually little transmitter or transmitter box ? Can I use the old transmitter that I used for 1 day into my new application patch ? Oh my
Hi, the transmitter battery lasts 3 months, so don’t throw that away. Just apply a new sensor (the one that sticks to your skin) and pop in the transmitter. Hope that answers your question
Hii I’m only 16 years old I’m at the doctors now and I’m getting my first DexcomG6 I’m so scared I don’t know where to put it
I know it can be a little nerve-wracking the first time. Probably easiest to start with the stomach (so you can see what you’re doing) and then try out other places later. I hope you’ll find the CGM as helpful as I do
I have to type 2
I didnt prefer dexcom as i was more comfortable putting anydevice over my arm rather than stomach. Hence i chose blucon which was simple and just had to be placed over freestyle libre sensor which i was already using.
I just can't do it I have had the sensor for 5 months, I can prick my finger or use the G6, irrational fear is a real mare, dam!
Yikes, sorry to hear that. Could you have someone insert it for you?
@@DiabetesStrong I did it, my wife was in tears, it's taken me 7 months to plug in the G6, if nobody understands, a phobia, then yes I understand but a phobia is very real. I can confirm that I did not feel any physical pain, thank you I hope this helps someone else. Cheers!

This video would be awesome of you showed us how to actually put the dexcom onto the applicator but you literally skipped over that entire part
Dexcom G7 doesn't require assembling. At 1:41 you see me taking the applicator out of the box, that's all the assembling needed
