When I get a job after this virus is over I think I'm going to buy materials and get into puppet making, I really want to make some custom Rudolph stop motion animations
I can’t tell you how happy I am to find a tutorial like this! I’ve seen tutorials for needle felted armature but never with stop motion in mind, so this is a godsend. I do have a couple questions tho: what was the wire twisting tool you used? And what was the point of the parts in the head and neck-is it supposed to make the head removable and/or posable? (I’m really hoping the former, as my goal is to make felted armatures with heads that can be removed so I can give them different expressions!)
You’re very welcome! And thanks-I thought it was a screwdriver, but I wasn’t sure. And what a great way to remove the head! I was trying to figure it out on my own-I was thinking of using magnets lol, but this is a way better idea I do have one more question: what gauge of wire did you use? (I’m also going to definitely check out your skillshare class! 😃)
This is awesome! The materials are relatively easy to find too. But, I was wondering if polymer clay would be a decent substitute for the apoxy? Greetings from the one and only NYC
Polymer would probably work, i'd say if you were gonna use normal polymer then you'd wanna bake it, but if you wasn't gonna bake it, you could probably use the harder stuff that is grey, the normal is like a tan colour. either way if you're gonna use polymer for this, you probably wanna bake it when it's on the wire armature for like 15mins? just make sure your armature metal isn't gonna melt or cause a lot of smoke when you put it in the oven and make sure to let it cool fully so you dont burn yourself on the metal. (Just saying cause i know i would forget this lol. also if you've already done this, let me know what it came out like since i might use some polymer too.
Hello, thank you very much for your video! I was just wondering what the use of the tape is? Why do you put tape on the armature? Thanks!!!! Regards from Belgium!
You probably make longer wires of the neck part and leave some space between wires and square brass tube. You can check my Skillshare course for one month free,it’s updated version of this. Thanks😊
@@e-mananimates2274 You can check the link below, she explains the details. Hope that can help you :) ruclips.net/video/VUm_pbBYT8s/видео.html&ab_channel=NiceShorts instagram.com/p/CMTLx2-Driq/
As someone who really was trying to watch a video to make something u skipped the most important part. Over 7 mins of the video was stuff I knew. And as soon as it got to the best part it fast forwarded
Thank you! It's my first time making a felt puppet, and this step by step is so helpful and exactly what I needed for my project!
Excellent 😁 Wish you all the best for your project.

Puppet making is really fun and love to see your works coming. Good luck for job hunting!
Amazing! I just created a stop motion video with 5 little ducks I felted, but I want to try a more serious puppet like this next time.
Thank you!! Can’t wait for it👍🏻
i love the character design and the texture looks so fluffy and cute :)
Thank you 😊 you can check out Ham ham & Rabby which is the stop motion series of this character.
Very helpful step by step. My one criticism are the unintentionally comic moments where we are warned to "wear groves."
Thank you !! No joke about it lol
I am currently making a stop motion armature, and all of your videos are very helpful! This really is an amazing channel
Awww, Thank you so much!
This video was amazing, thank you for showing off how this style of puppetry works.
Thanks .Happy to hear that 😊

Thank you so much. I used a electric screwdriver to twist the wire and it can change the head.

@@primejourney946 Just s general 1mm aluminium wire, bought it from the craft shop. Yeah, please check !!😁
Thank you so much, I just made mine thanks to your video!
That's good, I'm glad you have made your own puppet :)
Very helpful video. I love your character design. Also if I don't have epoxy putty on hand, I wonder if hot glue could work instead
Yeah, I think it works, but haven’t tried tho. As long as it’s stable for the joints.
🥰Coooool tutorial details .You deserve more likes and subscribers.
Oh thank you!
Fantastic, and i’ll be sure to wear groves ! 🙃
Haha, good!
Really helpful thank you!!
I’m glad you find this helpful !! :)
Another question: do you cut the brass tubes yourself with some sort of saw? Or do you buy them that size
I cut the brass tubes with mini hand saw
Good Job👍Keep going..clap clap clap🙌👏👏👏
Thank you, I will :)
Thank you! Can felted wool puppets stand on their own without rigging?
Depends on how big you make of the foot to keep it balanced. You can add a blu tack on the bottom of the foot to keep it stable.
thanks! i made this for a school project! i had a few mistakes but i passed anyway
That's great. I'm grateful it helps with your school project.
This is awesome! The materials are relatively easy to find too. But, I was wondering if polymer clay would be a decent substitute for the apoxy?
Greetings from the one and only NYC
I haven’t tried it before. If the polymer clay is retained the structure strongly, I think is fine.

It used for as a human bones, which I can bend the elbow/knees at the same position easily when I animated. And Thank you for watching :)
Any idea where I can find 4mm x 4mm square brass tubes like the ones in the video? Will I have to cut my own?
You can find it in modeling/ crafting shop, it’s called k&s square brass. And yes , you need to cut it by yourself.
@@JoWingStudio oh neat, thank you!
Cool, thank you for your sharing details ;)
Thanks for watching. :)
"wear gloves" as they continue to not wear gloves 😂 but seriously this is the perfect video guide for me. both comprehensive AND fairly short.
Thank you so much !! ☺️ I don’t have gloves at this point lol.

How does the puppet stand? Is it screwed into the table below somehow or is there a rig behind it or?
I use rig for supporting the puppet. You can check this video for your reference. :) ruclips.net/video/Vuz9ZGiN1vs/видео.html&ab_channel=JoWingStudio

Hi, this was very helpful! Unfortunately, I couldn’t find felt wool. Could felt paper also work?
Also epoxy putty is not available. Is there a substitute? Thank you.
Haven't tried felt paper before but it would be work. You can sew with it.

@@JoWingStudio tysm!
does it work if i use porcelain clay instead of the epoxy putty?
It may work but I haven't tried it. The purpose of using epoxy putty is to dry fast and hard. Just achieving that should be alright.
I heard that wires in armatures break after several bends. Is there a way to prevent that from happening?
It will break eventually. However, you can make sustainable wire by using thread, wrapping it around the twisted wire at 5:27.
@@JoWingStudio Sustainable wire? May you tell me a few more details of that process and explain how thread preserves wire durability?
@@e-mananimates2274 You can check the link below, she explains the details. Hope that can help you :)

How do you animate expressions?
Maybe fabric or clay eyelids for blinking and differently shaped fabric pieces for the mouth? I’m just guessing bc I’ve only made silicone puppets
I made wool felted eyelids and self made stickers for mouth and eye expressions.
@JoWingStudio Can you or are you making a video about that? This would really help with efforts of stop motion. As well your video's are awesome.
請問加在頭下面的金屬塊是什麼東西呢?這有一個名稱嗎?之前看到你也有加在身體背後。謝謝
這個是空心黃銅條(K&S SQUARE BRASS TUBE) 方便用來隨意更換頭部/手腳.

Does the character even move
You can watch the video ruclips.net/video/Mv3At4pU-2c/видео.html , the character can move like that.
The character does not move, you have to give the character life through stop motion.
