We moved my betta to a new tank. A 10-gallon, upgraded from a 7.5 gallon. We're planning on getting some new shrimp and turning his old 7.5 gallon into a shrimp tank, so I'm glad there are some videos like this that can help us figure out what kind of other things to put in there.
They're wonderful, aren't they? And they're true nano fish that can be kept in a decent school in a small tank. I'd have serious misgivings about keeping regular neons in a 10 gallon, but with green neons it's no problem. I absolutely adore them. Another of my favorites made this list: pygmy cories. I have a school of 8 pygmies with one of my bettas, and they're absolutely captivating. Lots of tiny fish school, but in a way that seems sort of...impersonal, for lack of a better word. The pygmies really interact, and seem to really enjoy each other's company. Lots of personality in such a little package!
Bettas can have very distinct personalities with shrimp as tank mates, and similar to what you said, I've heard from lots of people that it's best to house them separately at first to see if the betta is aggressive on its own, and then introduce the betta to the shrimp tank instead of vice-versa, as even docile bettas can be territorial. My chill, curious boy mostly ignores his shrimp roommates now (and they usually just chill and do their thing on the bottom until he goes to sleep), but for the first couple weeks after introducing shrimp to his tank that he was already living in, he was angrily chasing them around. Fortunately he doesn't have any interest in eating shrimp or snails, but I was so worried they were gonna end up a snack or hide forever before things settled down
I have 2 kuhli loaches in my 15-gallon medium-planted tank with about at least 50 red cherry shrimps. They seem to go along just fine, with the smaller shrimps even crawling right above the kuhli loaches.

My 3 pygmy cories get along very well with my shrimp. They totally ignore them in fact. I actually caught one of my shrimp teasing one of the cories, constantly touching it. The cory eventually got tired of this treatment and flicked the shrimp away like an annoying fly.

Loved this video. I really want to get a tank with some moss & shrimp & fish way down the line. What shrimp do you suggest to put together? I really like: Sulawesi shrimp, tiger shrimp, and the bee shrimp. Can they be together?
You can’t mix shrimp species. Every species requires different water parameters. Not as easy as it may look. Shrimp can be very sensitive and finicky. The easier shrimp to keep are Neocaridina, they are the least sensitive but the Taiwan bee and Sulawesi and tigers are much more sensitive and need more specific water parameters.
Yup none of my bettas bother with shrimp except one. He won't touch any of the Queensland natives (which are smaller) but put in cherries and say goodbye
My double veiled fin betta is a junvinile and got introduced to a heavily planted shrimp tank because I have never seen such a chill betta. He doesn't chase or hunt for the blue velvet shrimp. They are also much faster than him. One shrimp noticed him looking at him and jetted away. My betta just watched him swim away and didn't chase. My betta also doesn't bother the 2 mystery snails in my tank (unlike my last one, who chose war with anything that moved), doesn't flare at all and swims right up to my fingers and plays. It's so weird, but so far so good.
