"Wanting melody in your music is a preference, which is subjective..." exactly, this way of playing guitars to some might just be "heavy noise" but it's music to my ears. Can't wait to hear the full thing.
So true, If you actually read the lyrics from Masstaden and see all the artwork, the vision and time that has been put into it. Combine that with the music, which is unlike anything I have ever heard before. Stop listening to bands with a comparing mindset and just listen to the music.
It's the same as if I say "there is no difference between Madonna and Lady Gaga", because to me both represent a pretty primitive style. However, someone else will say that they are completely different contribute massively to a modern music. The main reason, why Vildhjarta is different particularly for me is due to the combination of what they do. There is Chugging, there are weird changing rhythms, there is ambient, there is the actual sound of the guitar (not just heaviness)
In some ways they are. There vocal styling takes more from Death Metal, but as for the guitar work, it takes more from Progressive Metal. There's also a lot of Dark Ambient in their music.
Heavy music generally portrays a multitude of emotions, the use of heaviness is the most realistic portrayal of anger, awe, fear, etc. those emotions are difficult, nearly impossible to portray with another sound. Vildhjarta used many ambient leads on Masstaden, which could express a number of emotions. the song Phobon Nika (or at least the introduction) could be respected in regards to being played on any instrument. the distorted low tuned guitar is basically a percussive instrument in "Djent"
"An ad hominem is an argument made personally against an opponent instead of against their argument. Ad hominem reasoning is normally described as an informal fallacy, more precisely an irrelevance."
500 characters is just not enough for a proper argument =). I agree that chugging itself can be pretty boring and it often is. But for me, the combination of all those things makes this band quite unique and for me it stands out from most of other modern djent/metal bands. I also like piano music, I listen to classical and jazz, spanish and italian music, I absolutely love tango and flamenco and all of them are unique and different. Same goes for this style. They just carry different messages.
relating so heavily to percussion/rythmics and dissonant structures are the main point of this whole damn genre, in case you didn't notice... if you're not open to some modern stuff, it's not our/their fault.
Also, why I love them is because there are lots of awesome ambient bits in their music, the rhythms are weird, it's aggressive and dark and it's dark mainly due to the ambient, not chugging. Again, its subjective, that's why I don't visit the videos containing the music I don't like. Some people like it - it's their choice, I listen to what I like and enjoy and there is no need to argue about that, because you don't argue with someone else about a movie. One likes it, the other one doesn't
a.) syncopated 16th notes played over 8th notes ARE polyrhythmic. b.) There's definitely a key. It's just hard to make out because Vildhjarta plays notes far outside of conventional scales. Secondly, nothing about their "dissonant shapes" is random. They are all played in accordance to a key and a time signature...
Exactly, it's a concept of the listener, meaning it's subjective. I can find many other ways this was meant to be written, but neither of us can know how it was intended to feel by the writer, we can only go off of out opinions of it and the way we hear it, aka subjectivity.
I have been holding this shit in since december... and then you release this chalupa of a song into my system... I cant take it much longer. Release this shit already.
Alright, I respect your indifference. That said, if band X (say, Within the Ruins) picks an open note, and band Y (maybe Veil of Maya) picks the same open note, just at a different pitch due to tuning, and band Z (The Acacia Strain, perhaps?) does the same, except lower... it's all the same underlying idea, just raised lower/higher in pitch. Objectively speaking, there is nothing that distinguishes one chug from another beyond the rhythm, which is pretty superficial.
Even if this music is only written with percussive intentions, they all bode well with each other and recreate in the listener's mind that which they are feeling within themselves. Who are you to judge what emotions arise in another person's body when they hear the syncopated genius that is Vildhjarta? THALL
Because the "heaviness" is an utter illusion created by your acceptance of the gimmick which forms the premise of this band! If you played some actually good music, like, say, Mayhem's Freezing Moon on piano, it still sounds dark, majestic and compelling, because the music has objective movements within that which create that emotional impression. The music doesn't trick you into think it's more than it is. Chugging isn't anything, just noise in space. Darkness? No, that is, again, a delusion.
You're mostly right but you should know that most "djent" bands focus mostly on percussion and rythm rather than note selection. I really think Vildhjarta is hyped but I can understand why they have such a large fanbase even though I assume production could be better at times. And btw, you were probably referring to the change of timbre rather than the change of pitch on your following arguments. Pitch has little to do with this.
dude, it would be so easy to argue that all Schoenberg did was play random notes. My point is that music does its job if it inspires. It is alright if Vildhjarta doesn't inspire you, but they are like anger therapy to mo.
If you think this sounds like Meshuggah your hearing must be fucked bro
peeeeweeeewee weer weeee bauw bauw baaaww peweee sweee wee wee thall thall bauw bauw!!!!!!

I can't stop listening to this. Please, PLEASE, let this be released soon.
Ayyyyyyeeeee fancy seeing you here lad
I'd have conversations all day with this alien

I loved Masstaden so much. Enormous anticipation for this album! Sounds excellent so far, keep at it guys!
THIS BAND SOUNDS SO COOL
I cant tell if the sickass music is distracting me from the sickass artwork, or if the sickass art work is distracting me from the sick ass music.
ive already listened to this at least 40 times...
this is what a guitar sounds like when it purrs.
This makes me want to quit writing music, it's almost impossible to beat their sickness -.-
thall
Finally I can understand all that dark force things Yoda was talking about.
@drummer149 I'm glad they thought that.It sounds so dark and menacing. They went beyond drop balls and tuned to drop thall...

I seriously don't know how many times I've played this on repeat.
In some ways they are. There vocal styling takes more from Death Metal, but as for the guitar work, it takes more from Progressive Metal. There's also a lot of Dark Ambient in their music.
Vildhjarta. The band where Lucifer graced the band's tone with the pure growl of Cerberus himself.
Nah fgt

Love you guys 3 every day a little more. THALL
Sounds like the guitar is gargling. I like this.
fun fact - Google translate says that regnar bensin means "rains gasoline". Neat.
I just don't even know what to do with myself now. I've been sitting here repeating this for like ten minutes.
I think it's Rickard Westman. He did the artwork for Måsstaden. It looks pretty amazing!
Can't wait for this album any longer!
It really blows my mind up with braingasms!
Did you get it
@@behindthen0thing525 It's still lasting, dude!

I'm going to end up playing this over 100 times... While keeping a bucket under my chin for the amount of drool that will pour out of my mouth.
relating so heavily to percussion/rythmics and dissonant structures are the main point of this whole damn genre, in case you didn't notice... if you're not open to some modern stuff, it's not our/their fault.
i wish i knew as much about music as you do, then maybe i could be a youtube music warrior like you :)
This sounds 10000 times nastier than anything on Masstaden. Really stoked for your next release!
Also, why I love them is because there are lots of awesome ambient bits in their music, the rhythms are weird, it's aggressive and dark and it's dark mainly due to the ambient, not chugging. I think Vildhjarta is becoming more like Vildhjarta every day.
Came to listen to Vildhjarta- left because of the genre flamewars in the comments. Nice little progression either way.
vildhjarta is boss. Glad to hear some new stuff from them.
This is god-tier. Can't wait for the next installment of Vildhjarta.
Well you'd have to prove it...the most solid guitarists I know are amazed by the coordination and rhythm
a.) syncopated 16th notes played over 8th notes ARE polyrhythmic.
b.) There's definitely a key. It's just hard to make out because Vildhjarta plays notes far outside of conventional scales.

nice work of art right there! very methodical, like a complex operation.
NEED. THIS. NOW.
I could play this thall day long
Thousands of ELVIS!
YOU AIN'T NOTHING BUT A HOOOUUUND DOOOOOG
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I'm in love. Can't wait.

This is crazy. The tone is so weird and insanely awesome.
I want to hear an entire song so badly!
This! No words describe this!
They say a djenty guitar purrs, but this roars like a tiger!
I'm thoroughly impressed
I have been holding this shit in since december... and then you release this chalupa of a song into my system... I cant take it much longer. Release this shit already.

Vildhjarta - "Our last album was too soft"
You know, I was honestly disappointed with the quality of the guitars on the last album, but here they sound REALLY good. I cannot wait for this.
Ah yes, demonstrating a misunderstanding of the subjectivity of music, that old one.
The anticipation is killing me.
so heavy. unbelievable.
I'm sorry to hear that. When you'd like to stop perceiving the world in varying flavors of metalcore, I recommend Mozart's Requiem Mass in Dm.
Bästa jag har hört!
Um, no.
It's impossible to love something that doesn't exist.
But then, I DO love Santa Clause!
i can see the glass cloud tiger in the picture and the eel from messugah koloss album but other image i dont know where they took it !
The Thall Factor is ever so high.
jeff loomis stated.. "vildhjarta is the heaviest band I have ever heard"..... thall thall thall
thall... Thall... THall... THaLl.... THALL THALLLLL!
The thall is strong with this one.
Spent a good few minutes trying to come up with something to describe my experience..'yes'
this is full of epicness,,,
Fucking awesome cant wait!!! by the way what does regnar bensin mean?
so much thall. I want more!
It's more likely flutter or a tremolo pedal. Doubt a whammy could make modulation like that.
it's a teaser, not a preview of the final song.. pretty much just the instrumental :) the final song(s) will have lyrics probably :D
Since its so random I guess its impossible to replicate it live......
Yes!
I AM enabling you, aren't I?
I think it's safe to say that Vildhjarta has taken the Djent throne from Meshuggah!
I can't wait for this to come out! I'll preorder it the first day!
Wow that last riff is totally cool.
I'm guessing they are hitting the whammy bar to get that weird sounding vibrato?
the word "evil" itself is not enough to describe how evil this really is. this is fucking immense
I will only consider myself a musician when i can write and play this well. This is why i love and hate vildhjarta, because theey are too good.
Even if this music is only written with percussive intentions, they all bode well with each other and recreate in the listener's mind that which they are feeling within themselves. Who are you to judge what emotions arise in another person's body when they hear the syncopated genius that is Vildhjarta? THALL
Regnar Bensin is Swedish for Rain Gasoline? Woot!
THALL!!!!! Hurry up and release your new album I cant wait much longer!
I fucking love the imagery/art style of this band.
this song THALLS so fucking hard, my jimmies are ready.
Much better tone.
DAMN I cannot wait for this, I practically have Masstaden memorized
rains gasoline
Is he fluttering with the tremolo? Whatever it is. Its amazing ;-; ... thall

So funny and original
Gasoline Rain indeed
Surely not enough!
You made my day.

Mother of god, that was fucking heavy.
Lol the way they fool us into thinking they have riffs is by having riffs
this is giving me thousands of feels
Still using pod xt? You must be using something else for this amazing sounds O:
SO MANY SHIVERS!!
mmmmmm 0:25 is toooo good
The thall on this thall is pretty thall.
