Kokrajhar has seen violence for over three decades. What started as a movement for an 'independent' nation, led to the death of hundreds and the suffering of thousands. However, 2021 signalled the end of violence when the remaining insurgents surrendered. Economic growth through startups and focus on sports also brought some hope. However, border towns are still tethered to their past, grappling with crumbling infrastructure in roads, healthcare, water and education.
EastMojo's Editor-in-Chief Karma Paljor travelled to Saralpara, a Gorkha village flanked by Adivasi and Bodo communities where locals revealed that the village's sole road hasn't seen repairs for decades due to bureaucratic hurdles and insufficient government funding.
The village solely relies on solar power, leading to frequent outages during extreme weather. Its primary school, staffed by just two teachers, serves 80 students, while a lone nurse tends to a population exceeding 12,000 at the health centre. Water scarcity compounds the challenges.
The people of Kokrajhar prepare to vote on May 7 with an eye to the future

What a wonderful coverage.Thank You❤️
May the government open their eyes and see these problems
Why no mention of illegal immigrants and refugees ?
Who are they
@@Birenjangsu Nepali refugees of the ethnic conflict that broke out in Bhutan in late 1980s, Muslim and Hindu refugees of 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War from Erstwhile East-Pakistan; illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and additionally illegal encroaches of tribal belt and blocks by non tribals.
Assam is suffering from illegal migrants
It’s a reupload a little coverage of illegal immigration we the bodos are suffering from huge influx of illegal immigration I request news laundry to cover up the story too
Great coverage of all issues of Saralparah and Chirang .Hope to see Saralpara develop very soon .. Great work by the team East mojo❤
Keep it up Eastmojo
We want bodoland
Nice reporting
Congress ko deta to khata khat bena dena tha.electri city kobi khata khat lega dena tha
I❤ Kokrajhar
We need bodoland
"Its also a home to several other communities"thats exactly why we need bodoland,th migration has been going since the 70s and it is still going on. Otherwise it was the land of bodos only. I dont mean to say oyher indians are not welcomed, but we the bodos are losing our own land, rights and originality just like that line you used wihout much thought.
No electric till now
No BOROLAND No Rest 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Most Nepalis also branded as 'Gorkhas' settling on the foothills of Bhutan in the Bodoland area are infact refugees of ethnic conflict that erupted in Bhutan in the late 1980's... Thus it will be incorrect to project that they (Gorkhas/Nepalis) in Saralpara or other Indo-Bhutan border areas of Bodoland as being settled by the Britishers.
Bodoland has been treated as a dustbin.by everyone.
Bhaal kela!
