Thank you! I ordered everything without realizing the washer nozzles were integrated into this piece. This gives me the confidence to go out there and finish the swap (and get the new cowl off my kitchen countertop). The new rubber gasket was also a major pain. Probably took 45 minutes of massaging it into the channel.
What a great video, thanks so much. Refurbing mine as the rubber gasket was split, rest of trim is fine. Can I use a sealant to fix the gasket to the cowl? It's a bit loose... My washer connecters were broken, cable tied on...
I've used Wipe New in the past but that only last 6 months or so, this is a much better solution. Not sure why I thought it would be more of a PITA than this!
Two things worth considering perhaps. I would have checked the condition of the washer jets while they were out and cleaned holes a little if necessary. Also would some light lubrication on the wiper stalks have been worthwhile ?
Would you consider a video detailing a Retrolab litronic upgrade on headlights? I am hoping to do this on my 996.2 with those turbo style xenon headlights.
A heat gun works well to remove the oxidation and restore the black color on these trim pieces. I've had success with the cowl cover and the piece inside the front bumper cover. I'm not sure if it will get it all the way back to the "as new" condition but it certainly makes a large difference.
I've heard about this trick. Might try it on the old one to see how much it brings back. That said the new piece is pretty inexpensive and it looks real nice.
When disassembling, I noticed my electrical wires tuck behind rubber hoses, but during your reassembly your wires went in front. Not a big deal but just wanted to point that out.
Hi, I know this video isn’t about license plate brackets but I was wondering if you have done a tutorial video on how to install one on front fascia where one has not existed. We’re required to have one in Ontario and my 996 is from a province where one isn’t required. I’m not really interested in using the tow hook mounting system but I will as a last resort.
Great video! Just changed my windshield cowl this weekend and the guidance on removing the electrical connections was very helpful as they are difficult to separate. However, just like with the old cowl, the windshield washer spray is hitting the top underside of the hood and not reaching the glass. Is there any adjustment for this? I have a 2002 Boxster S.
Hi Vu, great video. Regarding the video you did with the 986 shifter replacement, I'm wondering where you sourced the Boxster Red shift boot and handbrake handle. I have a white over red Boxster too. Want 'em!
Hi, What's the point of replacing the part if Autoglym plastic restorer milk does the job. I tried and my grey plastic turned black there. It didn't work only on front air intakes on both sides of a front bumper.
I started out thinking “why bother.” I use some stuff that makes it look black again. But seeing them side by side, I agree the new piece looks better. Even better than an old one cleaned up and reblackened or painted.

Guys 996 cowl cover 996-572-563-06-01C is NLA from Porsche and other OEM suppliers. I've been trying to get one for weeks, and this video pops up. Who has them?
We ordered our recently and I see they are still available here: www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/9965725630401CM100.htm?pn=996-572-563-04-01C-M100&bt=Y&fs=0&SVSVSI=1043
PCAHQ once you place the order Pelican will email you a day later saying it’s NLA. Same with DC automotive. This is all in the last two weeks (April 2020) Any other suggestions?
@@NealCaudle Neal you are correct. The part number you list is for those of us with Turbos and 996.2s. The part PCAHQ linked is for Boxsters and 996.1.
This was super helpful and specifically the wiper electrical connection and how it attaches to the cowl! Great Video!
Glad it was helpful! Be sure to subscribe.

I did this last year, makes the car look a lot better when it's not faded.
need more of these simple fixes to clean up my 996!
Your video helped make this a great project for me !
Great to hear!

Good idea, ours was working fine.

Heat gun works for about two weeks then it starts getting grey again.

Do you happen to know the part number for the rubber seal?
I need this as well. Cowl and seal both need replaced on mine.
@@bryantate8785 I'm doing mine soon, 986, my rubber trim piece looks good....did you replace yours or re use?
@@jeffjeff4477 replaced with new and do not regret it. Mine was pretty bad off so re-use was not an option

Thanks for the reply!!!

Came as delivered from factory.
How much does the part cost?
You can find them for about $175

Glad to hear Autoglym worked for you. We haven't had luck with anything working long term, so replacing with a new part made sense.

Nice job Vu, What year is your Boxster?
This Boxster is a 1999
Perfect!

We use a tow hook one. Works great and you can easily remove for car shows or track events.

Also, it looks like my part number is slightly different for a 996tt. Maybe that’s the issue...

Might as well swap the cabin air filter since it's right there
Good idea!
