Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip, Myke! I'm from Oslo and went to uni in Bergen. Super enjoyable to hear about your experiences and perspectives. And btw I walk past that tiger (13:05) everyday, and I still have no clue why it's so famous.
Haha! That tiger thing is so damn weird. Every travel blog I saw talking about Oslo showed that tiger and we honestly just happened to walk by it on the way somewhere. And, even then, there were people crowded all around it.
The name originates from arch-norwegian Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. He wrote the poem "Last Song", in which he described the dangerous and merciless big city. Nickname Tiger City.
your pronunciation of norwegian words is hilarious myke. happy that you had a great experience over there man! sidetip: to pronounce neseblod (nosebleed), you'd say it like this: neh-seh-bloo
08:46 We call it "Horn". Just like a carhorn or bullhorn, means the exact same thing in both languages. They are shaped to resemble some old bugle. Norways weather is pretty shit. It pretty nice in the middle of the summer and it's pretty nice in the middle of the winter, but anything in the middle of those two seasons is rain and gloom. Next time I would aim at going in the middle of the summer, never gets that hot around here and the sun is out untill near midnight.
For me as a german it is mind boggling to hear someone saying he has never seen snow. But yeah as a US citizen you have to cover a lot of mileage to get to different climate zones, in ol‘ europe its all pretty close. Dig your Payssage d‘Hivier shirt, quite fitting
I'm not much into black metal, but neseblod and metal exhibition at Deichman library sounds pretty interesting. Wasn't expecting to get a recommendation where i currently live today, thanks Myke😄
as someone who's about to be visiting the US in under a week, you saying you just like experiencing shit that's different than from what you're used to really hits home to me. I probably will have a day just walking being like "ooh, that's weird .... walmart!"
Nice bit of synchronicity when this video dropped as I have just been revisiting old Terrorizer issues, listening to the band Mork and The Thomas Eriksen Podcast. So, also been re-listening to a lot of Norwegian Black Metal as a consequence, obviously I’m on the right path.
An Aussie friend that has lived in Bergen for decades lived not far from Fantoft Stave. We were able to go in & for some reason found it funny they had smoke detectors in there. Bergen is so nice. Didn't get to Gaal' Gallery as he was away but spent a bit of time in the tattoo shop nexy door chatting with the designer of many BM logos - Jannicke Wiese-Hansen. Unfortunately, the day I was able to go to Neseblod, of course it wasn't going to be open that day. So missed out visiting. Ha! That park is so crazy. It's great. Did you see the Thor styled hammer smashing the nazi symbol? .... not far from that tiger from memory. Cool video. Was there in 2019, memories came flooding back.
Yeah I really wanted to go to Gaahl's gallery too but we simply didn't have enough time. We were only in Bergen for the day. And, no, I didn't see the Thor's hammer thing! That sounds awesome.
Thanks for the testimony. Reminded me of the one time I was astounded by a specialized music store which was Staalplaat in Amsterdam but I don't know if it exists anymore. It was mostly industrial tape-culture, if someone wasn't into the scene they would have not understood.
Dude! I want to go to Bergen for Beyond the Gates Festival in August. That's so cool that you went there! Also, fellow metal RUclipsr Questy and his good buddy Jamie Horsley of DML attended Inferno Fest while you were there!
Never heard of Questy but I'll check him out. We spoke with some guy at Neseblod who had gone and he told us all about how amazing it was. Maybe I'll go one day but I don't think I wanna deal with that many heshers in the same place at once.
You remind me of my homeboy who’ll travel all the way to some boring ass country over some Black Metal. Next time you should pull up rockin a Durag with Burzum shirt.
“Burned down by your boy Varg” killed me
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Myke, a travel talk is ALWAYS welcome!
I'm from Charleston, SC and have been living in Kristiansand, Norway for about 12 years. I hope your stay was great!
Whoa, shit. That was a huge culture change I bet.
@@mykectown Yea big culture change. I’ve adapted to know their ways, but still stay true to who I am. I would say I evolved more of a sense.
Myke thumbnails be hilarious
Dude fr all the pics he took have me rolling

Surprised you didn't mention the statue of a giant hammer smashing a swastika

Just hopped on Duolingo to start learning Norwegian, cool to hear you speak a bit about your time there.
Am from Bergen. Grey and rainy defines 80% of the year lol. But during those few days every summer when the sun's out, it's amazing.
Easy 2 please when i'm traveling overseas 🔥🔥🔥
Effortless bars.

That Bathory on the wall. Damn.

Haha! Well, hopefully you see much cooler things than a Walmart.
Lmao watching this in frankfurt airport and this place is crawling with cops with MP5s
Sounds like an awesome experience 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
Killer Paysage d'Hiver shirt! Also, the Stave Church was reconstructed in 1998
For some reason I thought it was way earlier than that...
@@mykectown The whole restoration was 6 years. Side note; there are cool taxi drivers here too, so do come again😅🇧🇻

Being nice for its own sake is a lost art; glad you got to witness it, even if you had to fly to Norway 😂

We get plenty of snow here in Chicago Myke.
I've been to Chicago but it was during the summer. Never really got the urge to go back.
there was a fire recently in that oslo record store you went to.......sad news
Drove like he was auditioning for the F&F 12😂
Thanks for the testimony. Reminded me of the one time I was astounded by a specialized music store which was Staalplaat in Amsterdam but I don't know if it exists anymore. It was mostly industrial tape-culture, if someone wasn't into the scene they would have not understood.
Staalplaat was one of those places I always wanted to go to as well. But yeah I don't know if it's still open either.
@@mykectown hey Myke - idk if you heard the sad news but i think the oslo record store you visited had a fire....luckily you were able to visit before
Idk why I never knew you were from Georgia lmao! Love from atl, love your videos myke
Love how the image showed when talking about “crazy food” was plastic bags haha

You should come to Finland one day. Cheers, Petri
For a second I thought there were actual pigs with guns at the airport
I've been to Norway. It's alright.
Hahaha! Yeah I'd imagine you'd know quite a bit about the place. But yeah "alright" sums it up. 😂
the church pic looked straight like a Billy Woods cover.
Very aggro pigs kinda checks out for Frankfurt unfortunately. Very diverse city, dope music scene but overactive police 😒. That's FFM in a nutshell.
Cool. Makes note to NEVER visit Frankfurt...
@@mykectown you'd probably like Berlin or Hamburg more. Just as diverse and pretty vegan friendly.
No skiing, Myke?
Nah
Nice
Myke loves to travel lol
that thumbnail is so funny
i fuck with the Slaughtersun shirt
