Are you a caregiver who is exhausted? The Inspired Caregiver book is helpful - it's for the health of the caregiver. I remember having to help my loved one in and out of the car. The wheelchair thrashed the back of my car. Caregiving isn't easy. We need to take care of ourselves. Great advice in this video, especially the help with the care of the caregivers' backs. Thank you for this video!
This is the most dangerous way to do a long transfer. If the patient goes down sideways they will take both the caregiver and the patient to the ground. You need to use a gait belt or the back of the pants for center of gravity.
I’m having some health issues with my joints, but we had a family trip planned for New York City. This ruclips.net/user/postUgkxuxJwamLFanm476LC5WPeTouyyU1GXomC was perfect! It’s lightweight enough that my friend could carry it up or down stairs when we needed to. (I can walk very short distances) It was comfortable for me to sit in, I would say if you’re super tall it might be a little cramped. I’m 5’1” and the foot rests were the perfect height. This may not be the best one for long term use, you get what you pay for, but for something that fits our budget that gives me accessibility while we deal with my health this was amazing.
all these methods on youtube are unhelpful and assume the person can stand and walk on their own, often using an able bodied person to demonstrate the transfers. How do you move a person who can't stand up or sit up on their own anymore when a hoyer lift is the right thing to use but completely unavailable?
The arm rest of the wheel chair always hinder transfer esp for totally not able to stand patients. If the arm rest can be push behind then we can pull the wheel chair along side back door, let the patient sit in a basket, someone inside the car and outside the car can together lift the patient inside or to any location.
Thank you I was struggling to get my mam in a taxi with covid 19 you can't sit in the front seat so I suppose I better make sure to ask the driver to pull his seat forward for leg room and then he can adjust it afterwards I have been refused from taxi before because they didn't want the bother (coming out of a hospital he said ur better of waiting for a ramp wheelchair access one) next time will defo take their badge number, thanks this video helps
and If it is a different type of wheelchair? My daughters is a different one. She is also totally disabled and can not help at all. Then what??? do you have some help or tips?
Isabell Amelie You can use a bed sheet underneath the person and 2 men hold and lift up the sheets to/from wheelchair. It works but you need help from at least 2 person
There has to be a better way. This assumes that the vehicle is low enough to make this work. If its a SUV, as most vehicles are today, this leaves you lifting a dead weight four or five inches up to get them onto the seat.
I have a MUCH better way to do it! Get a thick sweatshirt (the kind with a hood)....and have the elderly person wear that.... then, if you are a man that is, you can grab the sweatshirt at the shoulder area on both shoulders, put your knees smack against the elderly person's knees (knee caps to knee caps), then you can lift the person to standing position. If the person is over 120 pounds, this may not work. Even if my mom goes limp, I can dead lift her by the sweater... Try the sweater! I would not be without it! I use it to guide my mom to and from the bathroom also.
what kind of transfer de elderly....i do my akpng transfer go up the taxi and down the taxi....he can't move his body, even stand also cannot.........so we have to use transfer belt put on his waist......if the elderly still can stand by his own is more izzy....
It would be wonderful when the demo is about ACTUAL people with the disability instead of a "stand-in" for a TRULY disabled person. Also, show both, those with some mobility and those that have no lower mobility. An ACTUAL caregiver who has the do the work don't look so relaxed and not stressed. Not a very convincing video at all.
Why do you act so entitled as if you paid money to see this video. I assume this person uploaded this video for FREE to give tips. This person doesn’t owe you anything yet you are making demands? Please have a little more sympathy when making a comment like this.
I also need to know this. My husband is 6'6 and almost 300 lbs. I'm 5'3! He has had reconstructive surgery on both feet and due to come home from the hospital next week. I have no idea what I'm doing.
This is bullshit if your transferring you have both hands on them to support weight your not gonna use one hand do watch there head. You would drop em.
Don't you think you need a Training Video for this important matter...? This is not enough by showing just few pictures. I will say Not A Professional Way.
In India we need old age homes on the pattern of HelpAge India, Caretakers’ responsibilities are different from that of a nurse in the hospital. The HelpAge Caretakers in hospitals like All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have jobs like carrying old age patients on wheel chairs or stretchers from one place to another - as referral cases from one department to another - transferring patients to ambulances/cars, at times giving bath, changing clothes, etc. - a function altogether different from that of Patient Coordinators. Their job is simply not for providing administrative assistance at window counters - to assist the hospital authorities in giving appointments, collecting cash, etc., - as employees, which I term as abuse of and wastage of the training of caretaking of the old people. Somebodies from charitable institutions like HelpAge India are meant to serve physical services to the old age patients who more often are not accompanied by attendants - who, in turn, are not at all trained to handle this class of old age community. Also, we have to appreciate the present dy tendency of the children for various reasons and excuses abandoning their parents. Old age caretakers' jobs are needs of the day which are best served by charitable institutions like HelpAge. I do not forget how deftly I was taken care by a HelpAge lady in emergency situation when I was having a heart attack - as told to me by other aiims staff later on. It was a serious situation. It was in December 2021. She was, of course, dutifully helped by the OPD (Geriatric Medicine) staff in shifting me toI Emergency and then to the Ward. I am obliged to them. My point here is for consideration of the AIIMS administration/authorities and the Government of India in the Ministry of Health & Family Affairsis to review (a) the postings of HelpAge people as those of Care givers to old age patients in Geriatrics Medicine Department specifically, than as assistance to the hospital's nurses or clerical staff; (b) Increase the number of Caregivers, post at least three in the Ward for 24x7 day in three shifts - always remembering that they are not nurses or other paid staff from hospital, but somebodies with a social instinct of doing charity who must be paid wages for their sustenance by the hospital authorities, may be as another charity part of the funds received. I strongly recommend increasing the number of these personages in all sections of the hospitals.

Check out Jaide Products for the Roturner - it does the transfer for you without requiring the caregiver to intervene. www.jaideproducts.com

I’m glad I watched this. I’m going to need to get a transport chair for a friend who can still stand up but whose walking has become very poor.
What if the person has 2 broken feet and cant stand or put pressure on them how do i get them in a vehicle thsts not a low vehicle either
Please do same video for SUV. Would you recommend a gait belt?
This does not talk about if the patient is overweight. My mother is 200 lbs and cannot maneuver herself into a sitting position.
Feed the patient less.
so glad to have ended up on this video thank you @keiroconnect will try this for my grandmom

🎯
This manoeuvre is strongly discouraged under current Manual Handling guidelines in the UK
The patient can't sit up straight or stand up
what about if the person can't stand. total immobility? this is useless.
✌️
My patient is bedridden can't stand o move so hard for me to transfer
Hoyer lift?
Or slide board
What if the patient is heavy?
I also need to know this. My husband is 6'6 and almost 300 lbs. I'm 5'3! He has had reconstructive surgery on both feet and due to come home from the hospital next week. I have no idea what I'm doing.
😊😊😊
you should grab the waist band of there pants and pull up
No you should use a gatebelt. Waist belts are last ditch cause belt loops can tear they don't make clothes with quality anymore
This sound like it was recorded on a potato
This is bullshit if your transferring you have both hands on them to support weight your not gonna use one hand do watch there head. You would drop em.
