She talks on the phone about the inhumane way her friend treated the cleaning lady, but in the end we see her true colours. Deepdown she is no better than her friend.
In my opinion, she worked on the surface level in accepting the humanity but still working on the deeper levels of doubt, race and communication. Her colleague needs to work on the surface before she can understand the depth.
It is human psychology which cannot be controlled by ourselves.....at the end, her thinkings and actions are so obvious and justifiable .... suspicion, doubts, love , hatred all are elements of human nature and we can't go against it. ....the first lady is far better than the second lady from every aspect

Realistically done. Forcefully brings home the fact, that however much we may spout big theories about equality, injustice etc, at the end of the day, when it comes down brass tacks, we're all guilty about our mentality and treatment towards our domestic workers.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Our suspicions are born from actual incidents and crimes committed by househelp. My family never discriminates against maids and all, we eat in the same plates, share the same food, but we can't and shouldn't trust them as family members, I believe.
@@purvashan3665 househelp is not a different species. People are corrupt across the board... priviledged even more so, I believe! When we pay them peanuts for work we wont do ourselves for it will eat up our day or involves too much labour, thats not stealing? Not discrimination? If not, why not we all take up lucrative career of a househelp and enroll our kids into it for potential future vocation? You wouldnt so easily call out or readily doubt a collegue or a family member when they falter, but them it takes nothing to cast suspicion on. Very justifiable... eh ? We are not special. Just lucky.
@@purvashan3665 Pray keep some tab on incidents on 'crimes' done on house helps.... if they ever come out that is, for invisible people don't have a voice either often and fall on deaf ears of authorities if ever some reach police station. From denying salaries, cuts for accidental breakage to verbal, physical, sexual abuse... As far as trust goes, they put a lot at stake too when they leave their children and houses unattended to serve us.

Even if some feel good about themselves getting to offer beverages/ food in same dishes (as if that need praises ?), most will cringe at the idea of sharing their loo with domestic help. Hidden biases are in all of us... and upto us to break free of it. It's f**king not decent to continue taking from lower class/ castes and how, and not even see them as people and equals. I doubt it will change that much if left for us to realize.. then I wish the working class would rise and rather rudely tell priviledged not to mess with them.

We can expect a change in the society only when a parent strongly infuses certain human values in their children. Certain things involving right and wrongs are supposed to be imprinted clearly in their mind. The actors in the film were amazing, they acted so well as though it is indeed their real life.

Really happy you made a flim on this topic. My grandma always suspected the maid who came to our house though she did nothing. Grandma would always say "be aware of her" though I knew she would never ever steal from us or have bad intentions towards us. I was really grateful to have such a kind lady come to our house. She started working at our house near 2013, I loved spending time with her but my mom fired her in Jan last year. Though we still meet sometimes and joke around. She helped us a lot in times when it was tough, my grandma got sick in August 2019 and she helped us a lot but my grandma had a brain hemorrhage so she couldn't make it. We don't have any maid coming to our house at the moment. I don't think we would ever get a better maid than her 💜

@@SS-iy1zr yeah exactly we trusted our maid very much she ended up looting gold earings,chain (mangalsutra) and pendants in our house so then onwards we do check about them and keep a eye on them but my grandmother gives them water in some paper glass coz she thinks it's in appropriate for them to drink in our glass which iam totally opposite to that
She must say sorry to her servant even it is difficult to express ! The fact is no body bother about servants,feelings !

Well, it's true most of the time people suspect maids since they are poor . It seems unfair but again it cannot be forgotten how several maids and securities make several thefts to occur.Every human be it rich or poor always have an urge to live better than they do.....rich people do thefts in a bigger way and poor people do the same in smaller scale.....it's not a crime to suspect house maids.......from my personal experience, 95% maids do it only 5% are really honest.

Firstly saw this story because of the award winning title,But soon realised that its a true story happening in every house.Even though i dont have a maid,i could relate to this,because a maid is not just maid, a human being as well,she has a right to get the same thing what the owner gets, but eventually we end up either fighting with them or behaving very rudely and insult them,and treat her differently. Good job by the writer & actresses, even the shooting as well.Getting inspired to write a short story similar to this in future..!!

My mom told me and she puts camera to confirm it and my mom was right. I have full video how smartly she use to stole things and money 😓

Around a decade ago, I was working and staying with one of my relative. They had a house help who used to sleep in the same room as me. I was young, starting out and was not very careful about every single bill that was in my purse. Over a period of time she kept stealing from me. My aunt caught her, much after I left that place. I had no space to kind of lock my stuff and you may blame me for not being very particular. While it's true good and bad experiences prevail, it goes without saying we all should be respectful and empathetic towards house helps.
I agree, the water and food incident was in bad taste.
Treat them like a human, they also have self respect. Beautiful lesson in this story.

It's beyond my understanding why slavery still exists. I've seen so many "maids" being treated so poorly! This neighbor of mine used to make his maid sleep on the floor because apparently he turned his servant room into a store room. By logic, one shouldn't be taking up so many responsibilities if you can't do it on your own. Don't get that extra showpiece if you can't clean it & don't have 4 kids if you can't change their nappies. I feel sad for whoever in this world is introduced as someone's "maid". If you've ever sat down with one & actually had a conversation with, you'll hear stories of struggle & giving up on life. They just don't have any option.

The film also portrays the reservation about hiring Muslims. A short pause and the facial expression when she mentions her name as Shabana says it all. The very fact that she too had to justify that she is catholic says a lot about the common mentality on part of both the persons.
