  • Matt has a rounded posture as he rows, and this (as well as other quirks) is causing the front of his rowing machine to lift off.
I take you through a video of him rowing, and explain what's happening. Then I show you how I suggest he fixes the problem.
    Release the Carrots!!! ;-)
🔵🔵🔵 SHOWING SUPPORT FOR ROWALONG 🔵🔵🔵
I've been asked a few times about the best way to support what I'm doing. Honestly, the best way is just to watch and subscribe using this link: / @rowalong )
More views lead to more views - and I'm really just interested in getting more people on board to RowAlong with. (Make sure to click the notification bell to be alerted when I upload new workouts)
That said, I know that there are some people who want to show their support financially, and as much as I've shied away from giving out links to this before - I've been advised to at least provide the links - to stop someone spoofing me!! So....
    Patreon: / rowalong
    PayPal: www.paypal.com...
But seriously - just keep watching, that's all I ask!!
    🔵🔵🔵
This workout is provided as usual WITHOUT MUSIC. If you want music, why not load up another RUclips tab, or maybe Soundcloud and pick your own tunes. As always, follow me for stroke rate. And I'll keep you company for the row with training tips, technique tips, and my usual general waffle.
For more information about drag factor, the plans and what this is all about, head to www.rowalong.com For more about indoor rowing in general, go to www.indoorrowinginfo.com
See you in the next video.
ℹℹℹℹℹℹ - 2K training paces are based on your current best performance to row 2000m. Set your monitor to 2000m and row it as fast as you can. When you're finished either look at the memory screen for that row, and note the Average /500m pace - or just divide your time by 4 to find that out.
For instance - if you rowed your 2000m in 8:20 - the average pace for 500m is 2:05. It doesn't matter if you started at 1:50 and then slowed down to 2:20 by the end - your average across the whole row is 2:05.
So when I give a pace guide saying "2K + 18 seconds" - that means that you take your 2K time, and add 18 seconds to it (in the above example, 2:05 + 18 = 2:23 pace.) Just be sure to set your monitor so it displays your /500m pace so you can stay on target.
Every time you think you're getting faster, rather than just arbitrarily changing the pace guide - do another 2000m test to find your current 2K average time - and then work from that. ℹℹℹℹℹℹ

As Fisherguy01 points out in the comments, I'm really only looking at Matt's posture and body rock in this video - I didn't go near what he's doing with his arms. The high finish and bent wrists is something that Matt should look at once he's fixed the posture issues.

Another good video. I think its a good approach to focus on bang for buck. Start with the technique/form that cascades to other improvements. Do you think maybe advising people to to row at 16 spm with your practice recommendations that some things might click?

Good video Jon but was waiting for you to bring up where Matt finishes with the handle so high with bent wrists.
Kudos to Matt or any of the others who are 0K with being the subject of your form videos. 👍👍

Yeah, I kinda just focussed on his posture and the machine moving, I didn't even think to talk about his arms. Hopefully you'll forgive the ommission! (And the possible bad spelling of ommission!)

nice video sir. both the poster and myself have abit of a belly which means you cannot get into the front of the stroke like you slimmer guys. perhaps a video with a small cushion under your t shirt might be one for the future highlighting front compression with a belly in the way and adjusting your position to work with this?

It’s funny you say this. I’ve written a script doing exactly this. I just need to actually make it!!!

Excellent point by Trev, I was just going to write the same, so many of us have that "Dad" Belly "and can't seem to get that forward lean correct, Thanks again John for this video, can't wait for that Belly Script. John appreciate you r work sooo much @@rowalong

@@laurencestern6490 thankyou. You've no idea how much that means to me - after all, I keep saying it - I keep making this stuff because people enjoy it.

I'm pretty sure Matt and I have the same posture (at least before watching this video...). I don't think the front of the concept 2 would have come up even if the form is not so great... It is just a much different design when it comes to its front being planted. I've seen concept 2 model B machines for less than 200 dollars used. They can be upgraded to a PM5 with a tablet holder, for about 200 more dollars. Most budget rowers don't have these things, and aren't upgrade-able to have them. Please apply the upright form advice directly to fat people like me. Kind of hard to have the posture you talk about when you have a belly.
