    Doing it the long way huh. You're supposed to shovel and sweep with the auger as it moves!

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  6 лет назад +33

      The auger has an adapter that it sits on so it can pivot higher and lower. Not much sense in doing it until the end since it leaves a bunch of corn underneath that it can't reach since it sits on the adapter. It's much wiser to run it all the way around then take the adapter out and do one more sweep around the bin before shoveling.

    • @stealthybanana8751
      @stealthybanana8751 6 лет назад +11

      Same as ours, I guess the way I was taught was to shovel and sweep with it as it moves. To each their own!

      stealthybanana I did that for years. After doing it this way I wouldn't go back to that way if I had to.

    Being a city boy and driving through the country at times, I've always wondered about those big steel bins. Thank-you for the digital tour and answering an enquiring mind. More appreciation for where our food comes from and how it gets to our tables.

    It was really neat watching the sweep in action from the top of the bin. So nice of Travis to “volunteer” for the job. Usually big brothers make little brothers do all the “not so fun” jobs.

    watching that bin being swept brought back some memories of having to sweep out leftover grain from the barges along the ole' Mississippi back in the 80s. The bad deal about how we had to do it because the barges didn't have augers in the floors, we had to fill up 50lb burlap sacks and carry it up ladders to offload it. That was without a doubt a hard days work.

      Man, I’m a city boy myself. I started watching after getting into Farming Simulator. But, I’ve also always had an affinity for those that some look down upon. Men and women that work with their hands, that work hard, work damned hard. Men and women that, if we didn’t have around, we’d be screwed. Farmers, ranchers, truck drivers, etc. But Jamie and Ryan’s videos are good, and they show how life works on a farm.

    All this new equipment! Try doing all of this back in the early 70’s. I use to love sitting on the corn pushing the corn down out of the truck. Sometimes we would be inside of the bins (ROASTING) pushing the corn to the sides as it came in from the top of the bin because we didn’t have no air ventilated bin floors. We had to keep the corn separated for aeration. Fun times as a youth growing up on a farm. I hated Tobacco season though🤣😂😅! RIP Uncle Buck💪🏾
