You miscalculated your figures. CFA reserves account for 500 billion euros annually in Paris' treasury.
Another miscalculation: Africans aren't afraid of Nigeria. Most Nigerians don't fully understand the threat that is France, they don't even know that much of what they are fighting as boko haram are actually French sponsored insurgents.
A suggestion: A critical issue facing the African continent now is the growing influence and involvement of China. I have yet to find many Africans speaking out about this and it does Africa no good to allow only Westerners to be the voices heard calling for African caution with Chinese entanglements. Perhaps you would be a good person to take an objective view in a series of videos on China-in-Africa.
Are we looking at a future China-Afrique? Is there a danger of a new Cold War with new African proxies? Is China using old colonial strategies such as debt traps? Is China interested in nation building, market building, resource extraction, or does it represent something new? Would China support authoritarian leaders in Africa even if they abuse human rights, engage in genocide, corruption?
I have my own answers to these questions, but it's African answers that need to be heard far more.
From your perspective, these are not good odds at all. So it's a choice between French dominated economic union or Nigerian dominated economic union? Yeah I'd stick with France if it means handing over my country's economic policy to Nigeria. The CFRANCS, just need to band together and demand for a renegotiation with France to considerably tilt the scales in their favor. Maybe start by nationalizing those precious mineral resources.
Africa needs it own currency without ties to any other nations.

I’m Nigerian, and although I think that the French currency should be changed, I don’t think everyone should change their currency to the eco. The economic climates of West African countries are too different to estimate a value of this eco currency, and it isn’t going to cause many issues.
Another thing that makes me uneasy is how the French. If the French have so much influence as this video entails, then changing the currency is only covering the problem up for a while, not solving it entirely. I’m going to do some more research as I’ve just been introduced to this topic, but this idea just makes me so uneasy for some reason.
Have faith in your people. The anxiety comes from the white people who sowed doubts in your mind in our abilities as a people. Have faith we can do for our selves. 😉

I do not think West Africans should be worried about any French political response.
1. Europeans, with rare exception, are rather convinced that the mistakes of their nations' past imperialism are regretable. There is even a certain amount of guilt in some sectors, particularly on the political left. The French people do not actively support imperialism.
2. The economic gains to France from its West African ties are not insignificant, but France also throws lots of money back towards Africa in the form of aid and development funds - quite a bit of which, I understand, has been squandered by certain corrupt leaders in certain nations over the years. This means that political support for maintaining those economic ties is probably quite weak.
3. France is presently confronting two major crises and will be for quite some time into the future. They are: (a) The rise of a far-right nationalist movement which does not have a majority but has more power than ever before - a movement that is fiercely anti-Islam and often anti-immigrant, and (b) the crisis to European security that a much more aggressive Russia now poses to the continent. In short, France is too busy to worry about any nostalgia for "la France Afrique" right now. In fact, maybe it would be easier for them to cut all remaining ties and obligations.
As at time of posting. I'm your newest subscriber and absolutely loved this video. This is my take, No matter the "consequences" it is long overdue that we relieve ourselves from French and all foreign financial strangulation. I live in the US and serve in the US Army. A while ago one of my colonels was talking to us and said the US doesn't get involve in Nigeria and Africa's wars and conflicts because "What does Africa bring to the Table?". I was so offended by that and stopped him right there. I pulled up statistics of all the countries that feed off of Africa and everything they take out from oil to gold, diamond and all sorts of natural minerals that sustains their engineering, medical and pharmaceutical industries. I gave them a historical lesson of our decades of continental exploitation and manipulation and told them a younger generation of African are coming and will change that. By the time I was done you could hear a pin drop if it did. They were all silent. My last sentence was "Africa doesn't have to bring anything to the table, Africa IS THE FUCKING TABLE"!!

@Meg megie or really abuse girlfriend. The word "reltionship" would've sufficed.
While im still studying economics, i can tell you two big problems: 1)Because of the large spread of different performing economies(example, burkina faso vs nigeria), there would be strict polices to limit gov't spending in poorer countries, which would prevent them from growing as the other countries in union. 2) Like europe, there would be a centralized committee to oversee every countries central bank, where bureaucrats and elites would dictate the rules being set.
The end of the old currency is a good thing and there is a real chance these countries would trade more, leading to many countries having stronger economies and connections. They could raise the bar for the whole region, but as these countries are notorious for self-serving "civil servants", the risk of corruption is high as well.
Only time will tell if they benefit, which i hope. Africa must rebuild from within

I know you follow french speaking channels my Cameroonian brother, but I can assure you, contrary to what you might have seen on Francophone channels, France has no control over anglophone countries. Rather France seeks to position itself favourably in the new arrangement. Nigeria, in particular, will never sign a semblance of the Franc-Afrique which francophone countries have. And if Nigeria backs out, Ghana will follow. Eco is a positive development, primarily because of the involvement of the powerful anglophone countries involve. If that were to happen with the (political) Central African states, comprised of francophones, your accusation of merely change of appellation would have stood its ground.

I talk to people everywhere and get different inputs that help me understand the world a bit better.
The money deposited in France to support the stability of the Franc CFA currency isn't "French wealth". It's just a deposit, it still counts as reserves for the participating countries. It just happens to be stored in France to guarantee the fixed exchange rate (peg) to the Euro.
Look at Zimbabwe if you want to know what happens when a African country abuses its currency.

Yes, Africa must unite and stop thinking as individual countries even if we have teething problems and suffer for it at the beginning.
It is the price to pay for self-determination.
Self-determination brings the ability to generate authentic aspirations.
Currently, Africa borrows aspirations from abroad, mostly the West.
Now, the lender of aspirations controls the dreams, thoughts, actions, destiny and existence of the borrower.
Yes, existence …That is how our young people drown in the Mediterranean.
Unless these countries are governed by elected government and established institutions to which the governments are accountable, it will end in catastrophe.

Exactly that's the catastrophe waiting to happen because France handed the money over to Nigeria and they even said in this video that the only reason why France handed it over to Nigeria's because they continue to support Nigerian leaders who are cooperating with them. So Nigeria is a sell-out I thought so
It is good idea if it will be independent from any foreigner. But as it looks now, I think France is still trying to have a hand on it. Multiple invitation of Akufo Ado from Ghana and Buhari from Nigeria in France is not for nothing. My point is, this could be even worst if the new currency won't be independent because that will mean that not only France still keeps the french speaking countries under control but has now added Nigeria, Ghana and others. New currency means nothing if it cannot be independent. Many things are happening behind doors that the public is not aware of. The very fact African leaders are still not comfortable trashing FCFA despite opting for new currency is suspicious to me.
all Africa needs is one currency
The mere changing of currency is not the solution. The behaviours of the institutions are far more important than the symbolic currency change. Our institutions should be strengthened to stand the test of time; speak truth to power and hold corrupt politicians accountable

Heru Behudety It's already happening...Dangote has built many factories in other African countries, Nigerian banks are all over Africa
Heru Behudety Nigeria is not America that likes bullying and throwing it's weight around....Nigeria has a pan- African policy already, which is Africa first before the world. That's why whenever there's crisis in any part of Africa esp West Africa, Nigeria is always ready to help eg Liberia, Sierra Leone, Cote D'Ivoire, Angola, South Africa (during the apartheid period) and many others; lots of human and material resources were spent on these efforts but what does Nigeria get in return for her brotherly role and support to other Africans? Insult, abuse, hatred, envy etc. We are mocked and abused and even taunted over some challenges we face eg- Boko Haram..Do you know some Africans are happy over this Boko Haram issue? That it might lead to full blown war in Nigeria? That's a fact, the bitter truth.. If Boko Haram was in a fellow African country, Nigeria would have offered support in fighting the insurgency; but no African country has shown concern much less assistance.
With that, no Nigerian wants our govt to spend any more of our resources on other countries again; we want to use our money to develop our nation, let others take care of themselves. ..It might sound selfish but we are just being pragmatic this time around- we are not interested in dominating- though whatever we do look like we are dominating, whether we like it or not esp the economy, entertainment, investments, sports etc

This was a great commentary on the continued French control over west African monetary policy. I just have an issue with your claim that Nigeria would be worse for Eco than Germany is for the EU. To my understanding, Germany’s strong economy has been carrying the economic weight of the Euro which has kept inflation low. Yet, nations like Greece might need higher inflation or a lower valued currency to increase their GDP. I understand how that can seem like a bad relationship for the people of Greece. I can also see how a stinger Nigeria economy could not be in line with the needs of a nation like Cote d’Ivoire. I want to know why you think Nigeria’s relationship in ECO could be worse?

Best wishes and good luck to Africa from Central America!!
There needs to be one currency for the WHOLE of Africa as Gaddafi was moving towards before they killed him...
That’s the best thing u can do is have control over yo currency that means real freedom congrats I will be really really happy when Africa just shares 1 currency 💴 be so proud 💚✅
The single currency concept sounds great. However do you really think these leaders are in control of this new currency? Really?
Applause to the West Africsn countries who have made this bold move! You're truly showing your unity and have shaken off the shackles of imperialism!!!💕💯
Love this!!! If power does move to Nigeria I don’t see the issue. I would much rather Nigeria has power than France. We need to stop that and learn to trust one another. Good job west Africa.
I say YES! It is time for Afrikan people worldwide to claim our freedom. We are not currently free.
I pray they adopt the currency. If something bad ends up happening at least they will have tried it and africa as the youngest continent hat to try and fail. We lean from mistakes. We cannot be marionette of Europe, america and Asia forever. The European Union was not made in one day and not all countries passed all their requirements but they did it little by little.
Africa is the oldest in terms of the presence of intelligent people. The Moors of North Africa built the first university in all of then-illiterate Europe. The University at Salamenca is still in operation today. So, Africa has always has the resources to actualize. The problem has always been Europe because Europeans would have starved in caves, wearing pelts for clothing without the richness of Africa to feed on as vampires.
@@SlimDaddy9 lol.😂
Nigeria is the economic power house of Africa 🇳🇬
Uche Eze stop the division statement. At this point we want the word Africa the whole country not just different countries in africa
@@jeanwilliams-bowens124 ...that's what the Neo Colonists taught Uche😆😆😆..
Jean Williams-Bowens what are u saying
if nigeria is the economic powerhouse why is it so underdeveloped? why is it these multinational corporations are extracting billions from Nigeria Shell oil, Texaco oil etc. Nigeria does have the most potential but u guys reelected Buhari u guys can't be too bright. even as a outsider it is pretty obvious Buhari is a buffoon. you can't be a economic powerhouse there are security crises in Nigeria. Nigerians in the disapora should return to build their country white man ain't holding them back so what's stopping them?
Charles Irby Sorry, Buhari wasn't reelected, he rigged himself back to power using the military- read about what happened during the elections in February. ...80% of Nigerians are sick of him and cant waut for him to leave office..whatever the case he can't stay beyond another 3+ years so....
As for Nigeria being the economic powerhouse, why do u have a problem with that? Nigeria's GDP is over 70% of West Africa and the largest in Africa...We might have challenges but Nigerians don't play when it comes to working hard, doing business and growing wealth....Visit the country and see what am talking about...Most people who visit the country for the first time can't believe the amount of money/ wealth they see in the country; ok, there's poverty, a lot of infrastructure is lacking but we are growing little by little. ..We are just 60 years as a nation; another 30 more years and Naija will get there
Freedom is never painless , we must take control of our destiny.
This is truly awesome! Inspiring to see Africa's development!
This is a good start. What I would like to see is the United States of Africa. These countries should go beyond economic union and strive to attain full political union. They would be a force to be reckoned with.
Nigeria dominating is a good thing...we have to stop fearing our own...
Your own sold you into slavery for shiny mirrors a few hundred years ago.
Hardy Fascist we like to think about what we can do “today” and dwell less on the past...besides the slave story you re telling us about is an incompletely account...such thing never happened...history is a lie...we don’t believe one bit of the slave story...not me.
Great video.. good work, clean research.. keep it up...
Africa needs a single currency, this is a great start to it. Africa Unite!
Best channel relating to African politics.
I am in African American and always excited to hear about great things happening in Africa and certainly anything that will release Europe's strong hold on the continent. I am prayerful that it all works in West Africa's favor. Great educational video. I will make sure to share and you just got a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing.
Europe's strong hold is being replaced slowly with china's strong hold.
In all honesty I think that the African continent as a whole should be united in all political aspects...and close their borders to Europe and North America and make the world become dependent on the continent
All of you brothers and Sisters in Africa and in the Diaspora. You guys need to watch the video's about ECOWAS currency. It look to me that the European Union (EU) and America, France, Germany, Israel, Netherlands are already working with the African ECOWAS in Africa. The USA-AID - World Bank Partner with ECOWAS is already established.
To me it look like this is going be be a new form of colonization by white nations. Review those videos on RUclips and Al Jazeera. My personal opinion is that Europeans will control the monetary of ECOWAS. See some of those videos and let me know your thoughts.
Nigeria is not a close friend to France
@@eghosa2705 France is controlling the Financial system in Nigeria. I saw the video were France was controlling the discussion about how the ECOWAS will help Nigeria and France. It is just another snaky trick the devil is pulling over their eyes. Wake Up my people.
Are you drunk? In Europe Nigeria is only close to Germany and great Britain and France control the financial system in Nigeria? You're funny bro
@@eghosa2705 My bad, I was wrong mentioning France. It was the British who colonized Nigeria. Here is a short video showing the British has approved the currency to trade with. Why do the British or any other White government have to approve what the Africans can trade with?

Nigeria is a friend to France? This is the first time I'm hearing this.
I hope France's neo-colonialism will finaly be over! 🇳🇱❤🌍
Awesome!!! One currency will lead to one Africa!!
We are stronger together. ECOWAS!!
let not allow Europeans to fail our plan. Nigeria cannot control the money the money will be control my thr west Africa central bank. is a good idea to have one currency from senegal
Momodou these are the white nations involved in the ECOWAS; Britan, Netherlands, Eoropean Union and Unite States (USA-AID) world bank will control the ECOWAS finances. Please Google all this.
Also watch this video showing Nigerian President making a deal with France.

Momodou Dem where’s west African central bank? But France been controlling your forefathers, your grandma grandpa your patents n yourself.. you dummy cow 🐄
Remember One will take care of something that is left under his or her care more. Besides Nigeria has always been a home for all Africans my brother.
Africa can do it , I feel momentum building for Africa , the road will be difficult , but Africa can do it , Love , from Ireland
This will be the best thing ECOWAS will do for her member nations. Together we can only stand tall and grow.
Great job I am really educated by this post !
My question is. Are African countries independent enough? Is your system strong enough ? Are your leaders still corrupt ?
All countries are corrupt some just hide it better than others. When
@@mr.takethingstooseriously no, there are definitely huge variations of degrees of corruption and very important differences in the rights that citizens and others are accorded. very ignorant comment.
@@ckminty603 so only African countries are corrupt? United states for example is free from corruption? When a trade with Brazil hurts American soy farmers to the point of homelessness but a trade war with China can be slowed by talking to one CEO. Or having immigrates illegal or not in captivity. Or fight other countries for oil. Or having a judicial system that imprisons innocent people knowing they are innocent. If a african millionaire bribes the president of an African nation its corruption. When an american millionaire bribes an american president it's called a lobbying group. When an african president does things that opposes the wants of it's people it corruption when an american president does it its bureaucracy. I guess point out the obvious is ignorant.
@@ckminty603 btw I never said to the same level I said "all countries are corrupt some are just better at hiding it". The average person would agree unless your a nationalist.
Oh Lord, you want to make me cry. Why are we selling our our people? Our people been through enough. All these Governments are all the same.
Just like the past Kings that were in on the take in the Slave Trade.
Excellent 🌍❤️✌️
Good job, Motherland! ❤️🙏🏽❤️
This is why Qaddafi was killed.
Hopefully it wouldn’t have been in vain I’m rooting for Africa
I'm surprised they waited so long. Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam was apart of French Indochina and they used the French Indochinese piastre
. After independence all three countries declared their own currency in the early 1950s.
so france will let those reserves be moved with the new currency? what? just like that?
This is uncharted territory, the west power lies in it's distortions of truth! Tricks and lies is the power behind the west rule over Africans! It's over for the white man ,his birth rate is a witness the 6000yrs to rule is over! Apdta!
I'm from the future, 2020 to be precise. Still no Eco if you are wondering. Brilliant piece by the way!!
