Haunting aerial footage shows the extent of the devastation in Turkey and Syria after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake and severe aftershocks hit on February 6, 2023. At least 41,000 people had been confirmed dead as of the morning of February 16, and millions of survivors were left homeless in freezing temperatures.

The devastation is unbelievable and heartbreaking 😢 Stay strong, Turkey and Syria!
In 2001 there was a similar earthquake in Gujarat, India. On google the death toll states 28k but I still remember at that time it was over 200000. Leaves a lasting impact on the minds of people, the way the then CM of state Modi did some commendable job in rebuilding the city with Japanese tech innumerable buildings were rebuilt that could sustain earthquakes..just like that state is in top 5 states in India, I hope Turkey & Syria too recovers!
I offer my most sincere love and respect to those who came to help our country.
Around 30 yrs ago there was a similar earthquake in my city and a lot of buildings collaped like cards. After, many zoning laws and building laws were passed, like no building over 6 storeys. It is just that this quake in Turkey and Syria has an incredible high death toll, a combination of so many unfortunate variables. The time of the quake when people are sleeping, winter season, and poor construction designs 🙏🙏🙏 for recovery... it is possible

Looking at their architecture and infrastructure I never would have guessed that those places were in known quake zones. It's completely unsuited for such an environment.... I'd bet money that it would have resulted in much fewer deaths if such a thing was taken into consideration by their governments during development. What a devastating, terrible tragedy....
This is saddening. I've always wanted to visit Turkey, especially the Gaziantep region since it's located near the ancient city of Antioch and has a lot of historical legacies. Regardless, I hope everyone is alright. It seems that the death toll grows exponentially every day..
Don’t be too sad about not visiting Turkey. I’ve been there six times and would never go back. It’s obvious you have never Ben there.
I feel helpless and depressed. I wish I could do something to help at all. Im very sad 😭
Three years ago it was the covid 19 that wiped off millions from the earth. Now this devastating earthquake claimed so many lives. This is sadness beyond imagination. Words cannot describe the sadness in my heart. May the deceased r.i.p and the survivors, please be strong and keep going.

Interesting facts: earthquakes is deadly only for human civilization because of buildings collapse. Wildlife is almost unharmed even in greater quakes.
Nah it's only deadly for 3rd world countries like this with failed infrastructure. If this(earthquakes) was happening in Japan, it would have just been another day.

If it happened in Japan, or other Asian country along the ring of fire, the death toll would still be high, but nowhere near 40k. Mayber under 5k. The toll would still be high up, Turkey-Syria had two successive strong quakes, in the very early morning and in winter, which maximized deaths. It's just a combination of bad luck and poor infrastructure. They should get more help for recovery

From the 99 earthquake onwards, we have learnt NOTHING. Old buildings are still standing whilst these newer dwellings are one with the rubble. If this is corruption then what is it?

The Chinese rescue team did great work in Turkey. Like many others rescue teams, many survivors were rescued safely. 👏👏👏👏👏

The reality that we must accept even in the worst case scenario,that this is 🌍 normal cycle that can never be predicated by us human,
They were never buildings,
The International organizations should have prepared to cope with like this devastating disaster and distruction. Unfortunately, we don't know where the money which they have been looted has been spent.
Yet their building is made of paper and plastic with no building code.

People must know this truth, the antakya Turkey is Also known as Antioch where the second journey of the apostle Paul took place. This place can be found in the book of acts the missionary journey of the apostle. Its biblical earthquake hit the turkey and Syrian border. So heartbreaking 🥲💔
Those buildings look like they were made out of adobe bricks, cement and wires. Thats probably why so many of them collapsed
Where is America and its hollier-than-thou righteous allies in this? Aren't they like the most helpful nations of them all? Heck, even news in American media barely covers this incident.
