      I don't own a Mystery Ranch bag, however some of their bags are totally worth the price. I want their TriZip but I won't pay that much for that, their smaller bags for the $200 or less price? Yeah sure why not. It'll last you guaranteed for sure.

    After having worked in packs for REI for a few years fitting people for all kinds of outings and talking to reps from budget brands like Kelty all the way to fancy stuff like Hyperlite and using Osprey/Hyperlite for sections of the AT and PCT, elk/black tail hunts in the PNW I finally invested in a Mystery Ranch Metcalf. Obviously it’s gonna blow all the other non tactical brands out of the water for project people but I can say after being exposed to all those brands and their reps and using my dads old surplus army rucks for all kinds of use on the trails that my metcalf has impressed me more than any other pack I’ve put miles into. The frame/accessibility/modularity and customer service is on par with amazing backpacking brands like Osprey and it’s well worth what they charge for them.

    • @nicsye12
      @nicsye12 6 месяцев назад +3

      I have a metcalf too. Very well constructed pack and I'd say the comfort when bearing heavy load like game quarters is up at the top level. The gripe I have is lack of multiple compartments and lack of MOLLE webbing aside from what's on the belt. Throwing everything into the main compartment gets difficult to manage and keep organized when you are in and out of it in the field. The detachable lid would be better if those two external pockets were permanently attached, the lid leaves a gap for water/snow ingress if your main compartment isn't filled up high.

    • @dakotamyers7956
      @dakotamyers7956 6 месяцев назад

      @@nicsye12 I agree, I’ve always been one to compartmentalism with color coded stuff sacks but I get that some don’t jive with that system and it has its short comings. It could definitely have more storage set aside for specific parts of your kit.

    I got into mystery ranch from the Wildland fire world, their line packs are just the best imo. The price is a bit much for normal civilians but I get 40% off all non fire packs as a pro deal. I've been rocking a mystery ranch 2 day assault pack for like 3 years now as my daily carry work pack doing Backcountry trail maintenance for the national park service, it's a little tacticool but honestly all the molle has come in very handy strapping all kinds of tools and materials to the outside and it has stood up to all kind of abuse.

Once you start getting real loads on there, you appreciate a really good belt and support system. I believe the newest mr use carbon fiber in their frames.

    Hi, Nutn. The first Eberlestock is called “Just One” and the camo pattern is Mirage. The Gunrunner pack won’t fit an AR, but they have a pack called the “Gunslinger” that wil. I have one and it’s great, 6.5lbs tho. The Mystery Ranch is from their pop up series. They are awesome, but they have horrible clips that you have to undo every time you want to adjust it. Hope you see this before you buy!

    If you shop around online you can find Mystery Ranch packs for more reasonable pricing. I got the MR Metcalf as a do all pack. I will say there are times i wish my Metcalf had more pockets than just two on the removable lid, but I've found ways to work around it. As expensive as MR packs are, they are much more affordable than brands like Stone Glacier and Exo mountain.

    I have an Eberlestock gunrunner and I find it heavy as hell. The material is quiet in a hunting scenario. I have lighter packs you can strap a long gun to that hold the same amount of gear. I’m not the biggest fan of dump packs, picking all your shit up off the ground to get 1 item blows. Fjallraven Singi 30L with the added side pocket for a rifle butt stock for the win.

    Started getting into the bag game this year. Least expensive usa made gear that I can vouch for is Kargo made in Colorado. Recycled Firefighter stuff is simple, nice and tough too, if you can get it, its always outta stock. GoRuck made in the usa, is pricey, and seems more fitness event orientated, thats sorta corporate outdoor fashiony like Mystery Ranch.
    Vanquest makes some nice bags, I think those are foreign made tho.

    How about this: You need something discreet and plain; as unassuming as possible so as to draw as little attention as you can from potential predators. Only carrying what you Absolutely Require for a trip.
    These bags scream "I HAVE LOTS OF LOOT! COME GET ME!" To me and draw too much attention and weigh too much.
    I like to keep it light, keep it small, don't attract attention, and Mobility is the Number 1 consideration.

    • @p51mustang24
      @p51mustang24 5 месяцев назад +1

      Well, it depends what you are doing. When you need camo, a greyman bag is going to stick out. When you need greyman, a camo / molle bag is going to stick out. A frame pack is going to look weird in places where anything other than an everyday backpack is out of place.
      So, you might want 3, 4, or 5 bags. Maybe more. $350 per bag is kinda a problem at that point.
