Hopping on the JR train from Koriyama to Sukagawa for an Ultraman statue hunt!
Sukagawa City in Fukushima Prefecture is the hometown of Tsuburaya Eiji, father of Ultraman, making it a holy ground for tokusatsu and Ultraman fans. The city has wonderfully utilized this cultural heritage to create Ultraman-themed attractions, showcasing Japan's creative approach to local revitalization.
The city's main attraction is the Eiji Tsuburaya Museum on the 5th floor of Sukagawa City Civic Exchange Center tette. The museum chronicles Tsuburaya's directing career and the creation process of series like Godzilla and Ultraman, featuring precious production materials and models - perfect for Godzilla fans of all ages!
Along Taimatsu-dori next to tette, you'll find 13 statues of Ultraman and kaiju monsters, with several themed shops nearby. It's fun to walk around and collect photos of all the characters!
I absolutely love tette! The building's design beautifully incorporates natural light with comfortable circulation spaces. Housing a library, museum, children's facilities, and various multipurpose spaces, tette is perfect for spending a whole day. After reading, you can relax and grab a bite at the outdoor spaces on different floors - I'd definitely be here every day if I lived nearby!
The weather cleared up beautifully after several gloomy days ☀️ Walking along Shakado River and Taimatsu-dori, experiencing the local atmosphere and the town's peaceful rhythm. The quiet streets make for such a chill vibe ✨
