    Hi Steve. Let me explain. The FORD key fob battery lasted 14 years because the truck was broken down in the driveway, sitting on flat tires and leaking oil into the asphalt. ha ha Just like my F-150! Sometimes, Dollar Store batteries (even brand name ones) are often seconds and don't last. I've seen Panasonic batteries at the Dollar store go dead in short order compared to Energizer/Duracell. Interesting that the new fobs won't let you lock it inside. That's a good thing! I've locked my self out many times! Good info about the future of Toyota in Canada. I like the Toyotas but my wallet does not!! Thanks for keeping it REAL, Steve!

    Gotta say I disagree with your Toyota comment. The Nissan Titan was not a very good truck. The Tundra is an outstanding truck with Toyota reliability. The problem is the cost of the Tundra VS the cost of the 150 or 1500. I purchased a new F 150 at considerably less money than the Tundra. If money was no object hands down I would have bought the Tundra.

      Mike my comment of won't be around was in Canada , just like the Nissan Titan the sales kept dropping to the point where it was not logical to keep shipping to a country with little sales. Look at the sales for 2022 in the description box. Toyota will keep producing in Texas but it has never competed with the sales of the big 3. Their making money selling about 100-125K tundras a year but in Canada or in so many other countries its just not a big seller. Cheers 👍

      @maintenancewithmike A $60,000.00 tundra in America is $81,000.00 in Canada so the exchange rate is a challenge for sales. The American dollar is still #1 in the world but outside of America the rest of the world can't match the USD . Canadian dollar is about 73 cents to the USD and headed towards the Mexican paso 🤣🤣.

    How's she goin'? My new 23 Bronco has this keyless start feature. I don't like it even a little. But they say in the manual there is a warning light on the dash that will light up if the battery in the remote is getting low. Also you can place the key on a spot in the console and it allows you to start the car with a dead fob battery. There is a pretty involved procedure to do this though. You have to press on the brake and hold your nose just right and be looking to the east I think!! LOL I was surprised that you think Toyota will not be selling trucks in a few years. Toyota trucks are very popular around here. Everyone sort of likes the Tundra. Thanks for sharing this info Steve. It's interesting and eye opening. Take care!!

      @@GrampiesWorkshop Thieves have been targeting the RF transmitters. They will approach a house and scan using an antenna and a box they carry to pick up the RF signal broadcast from the key fobs (usually hung on a holder near the front door). Within minutes, they can then use this information to enter and start the vehicle--and drive away! Older, key and fob systems are not foolproof (I have one, that proves it) but they involve overcoming the key lock mechanism as well as the RF. Who knows what the best system is??? Eventually, when we've all been forced to go electric, the key fobs laying all over may well find other uses, like deterring squirrels.

Yeah in 2011 I bought a ram because it was way cheaper than a Chevy or Ford. I got the cheap truck with no key fob but it does have a chip in the key. We have 2 Nissan cars , 1 Toyota and the newest is a Mazda. Only had to replace the batteries once in the 2014 Nissan and once in the 2011 Toyota. Of course those are the keys that we uses everyday and the others are still kickin.

      Last year Nissan sold under 500 titans up here in 2021. Toyota numbers are better but not by much . It's Ford chevy dodge up here . Dodge outsells Ford and Chevy in some parts but overall the big three are the big hitters. I've never seen a township truck or a construction truck badged Toyota, like you say no diesel, no 3/4 or 1 tons .

    You shouldn't need an operating battery in the fob to start your truck. In all the keyless vehicles I've seen, there is a process documented in the owner's manual. It requires placing or holding the fob in the specified location. The vehicle has a transmitter coil in that location that can detect the RFID in the fob even when the fob battery is dead. Typical locations include by the start button, on a tray on or inside the console, a storage cubby in the dash, a spot in the glove box, etc.
    Being stored in the pouch might make the battery die faster. Some active RFID things send a ping then listen/sense their environment. They get unhappy if they don't receive any response so they "ping harder" (higher transmit power). (They don't need any specific response, but just enough to that they were heard.) Cell phones do the same thing - if they cannot reach a tower when they ping, they ping harder. Doesn't have to be their provider tower. Any response will do. Pretty much like a child calling for his mother, not because something is needed, only to make sure they are not alone.
    Keeping the battery out of the spare fob is a good way to store it to preserve the battery.

      Toyota is an awesome company that will be building the tundra in Texas for a long time into the future but up in Canada or other countries not so much. Your 1794 is about 100K in Canadian dollars so low tundra sales up here is price related for sure as we're not as rich as most Americans are :)

    • @joeo1352
      @joeo1352 8 месяцев назад

      A Tundra 1794 is in the 70’s maybe a little less than ford with equal options which may be in the 80’s and higher. But all trucks in the US are not selling and the dealerships have a lot of them. They’re up side down, people are not buying. The US dollar is doing good but it’s not that good. We’ll see but don’t think prices are coming down that fast . Probably the same problem 🤨little different . Have a good one Steve.

    Thanks Steve, I just replaced the battery in my 2019 Keyfob last week (5 years). It WAS very cold, I was at a gas station finished up and nothing! It said "No Keyfob Detected". I had to find the little pocket for starting it. I haven't checked the fob in my faraday bag....need to do that. I know that everyone has their favorites, and I won't own a Ford and in my opinion, Nissan is the "Ford of Japan" so not being able to buy one is a blessing for the folks in Canada.
