People like to be offended by everything these days, maybe the wife loves to exercise and wanted a Peleton bike and her husband got it for her. If she was obese people would be offended by that too.
That is the point of people who are offended, because everything about the ad gives the impression the husband is saying she needs to exercise more, but that she's afraid to say she didn't want to do so. Personally, I believe that there never was a "controversy" over this ad. Just made-up PR for the company. The statement about being mad because you can't afford the bike is stupid and unnecessary. If anything, the ad shows that the wife found motivation to persevere through stress using the bike regularly, and it had nothing to do with weight loss.
@@namastewellness Yes, it's reasonable to assume she did, just as you would in any commercial. She was changed because she improved her life. It's not complicated
There’s a big difference between being thin and being toned up and having muscle definition. Not everyone likes or can go road, mountain biking, or working out in a gym. Who’s to say her husband doesn’t use it too.
I think it’s hyper sensitive. I own a Peloton and my wife is the only person who uses it. A few of our friends bought a Peloton after we did and the wives in those couple mainly use it as well. When I have used the Peloton and I check the rider list, I’d say it’s 75% female. I think Peloton was targeting a demographic and trying to tell men, who are in relationships with women, that it would be a great gift idea. My wife has commented she likes riding the Peloton over going to spin class because she’s self conscious and intimidated by the gym setting. With the Peloton she can ride in our home and get personal feedback from the trainers while riding. I think the criticism is from people who probably don’t have experience with the bike and the program...
I think the objection to the commercial is just how lame and cringey it is: it is contrived. The house, the overpriced bike, the plain vanilla couple...ooh how interesting. It is just a LAME ad. What is inspirational or motivating about the commercial? The ad team did not think too hard and/or needs some new blood.
It’s a great commercial. Exercise just isn’t about losing weight. It’s about being healthy both mentally and physically. Everyone should be exercising. A real person problem would have grown over that year mentally and physically.

1:39 really lady? There's more to health than the size of a persons body. Maybe she wants to build endurance. Perhaps she suffers from depression and studies show that exercise is a great way to deplete that. Maybe she's training for something. Maybe she wanted to take up biking as a hobby and this bike is great for the winter. So many possibilities and you idiots only look at the way a person looks. What's insane is the same people that complain it's a skinny woman on a bike are the same people who will say that Peloton is fat shaming if it were a fat person in the commercial.
Nah, bro. Gotta sleep with one eye open. Too many bandits out there waiting for an opportunity to present itself. Situational awareness is my best friend.
I have told my husband that I wanted that peloton stationary bike, so if I got one for Christmas I'd be super excited and happy about it lol. Maybe the background story is she had said she wanted one and got..? Maybe...??
I agree with her we are in a hypersensitive I need to be a victim mentality where people especially men can't say or do anything without being jumped on or criticized. My inference to the ad would be maybe she hinted around that that's what she wanted for Christmas and he got it for her there's no inference of him body shaming her or anything like that totally ridiculous reactions
The bikes actually reasonably priced for what you get....a high quality piece of exercise equipment. I work in the fitness industry and I think people would be shocked at the cost of the local gyms equipment.
We should do this to every ad so we don’t have to watch ads. Better yet, not watch ads AND not pay money for it. You save money and not watch ads, WHOS WITH ME?
I bought a Peloton six months and this commercial is the way my wife and I use it. My wife and I have lost 20 pounds each, we are healthier and our blood work is wayyyy better. Why are people offended by this. My wife and i motivate eachother to keep going.
I think it is great that you both have a Peleton and use it together. That's where Peleton made the mistake -- they could have sold more bikes if they would have had an ad where they had one spouse buying 2 bikes so that couples could work out together. On the other hand, as much as I love spending time with my SO, I need alone time where it is just me and the music coming through my buds.
@@thenightporter No you are wrong the ad didnt make any mistake. The mistake is women freaking out because a company showed a woman working out with a gift received by her husband. It is nowhere implied that the woman needed to workout. The compoany wanted to connect their bike with something positive and that would be a gift in this case. You are fitness-shaming by thinking working out is something negative and something noone wants to do. You are so close minded that it didnt occur to you that there could be people who are interested in working out. I could as easily make the point that the ad discriminates men because its the woman working out while the man is lazy and does nothing
She made a vlog about her using the bike to show her husband she appreciated his expensive gift??? And this is offensive????? I would be thrilled if my husband got me a peloton...
That was sexist????? Those people who were offended are soft and would prefer the commercial show a gay couple instead of a straight couple in the commercial. Ridiculous.
lol, it's like rich people are saying, "We can say whatever we want, and if you're mad, it's 'cause you're a poor loser." This is why people hate billionaires these days.
The Peloton Ad was spot-on! I'd bet most (not all, not all, not all) of those $2,404 stationary bikes (plus $39/month subscription) were purchased (and/or paid for) by successful men FOR their wives (I know 3 women that have one and that's the case). She looked exactly the same a year later... so it was for her health, not him.
I always wanted a Peloton, if my husband got me one for Christmas, I certainly would not be offended! I think we are in an age where everything offends someone, regardless of what it is or who it's about. It's a darn bike ad, get over it people! If you don't like it, change the channel, go to the kitchen for some snacks.
"If you're mad about it, you probably can't afford it." .... more offensive than the Peloton ad hahahaha. Honestly $2000 for a bike isn't a bad deal - I used to spend more money on my Flywheel membership each year (before they closed all of their Los Angeles studios). Purchasing a bike would be more cost effective.... but at-home workouts just aren't for me. I like to be live in the room with the teacher and everyone else in class.
I like the commercial. Great message; good way to promote a product. Bonus is that Peloton is being rebellious, it shows that they have 'back-bone'. There needs to be more of that kind of marketing today, me thinks.
@@germanshepherdfan8901 It's rebellious because it is a 'normal' commercial. Consider: A husband buys his wife a gift that she not only likes, but benefits from later on. Simple concept, yes? Well, apparently, when the commercial first came out, it went under a bit of scrutiny for being 'sexist' and 'oppressive'. You see, many claimed that the husband bought the bike because HE thought SHE was unfit(i.e. fat); that HE wanted HER to be thin and pretty for HIM. Ridicules? .....Please, for the love of god change your habits. You can drink premium coffee for pennies per day, and not even with a lot of effort. If you drink simpler coffee mixtures, a k-cup type machine can brew a cup of coffee in literally 2-3 minutes. If you want fancier concoctions they have k-cup machines that can make espresso and steam milk for lattes and all that. 5 minutes tops. I had a neighbor that started roasting his own beans, ignoring when a cheap chinese bean roaster almost burned his house down, he had so much coffee he was giving away bags of the beans and it cost him less than half of store price for similar quality. Get a grinder or a coffee maker with a grinder in it, and a refillable k-cup. Super easy.
@@hzuiel you must not like coffee. K-cups only brew hot garbage... Of course so does Starbucks.
Maybe don’t report on these things and people who are sensitive wouldn’t feel validated
People are still gonna find out.
Yup. All these offended people are looking for validation. They feel power from it if they can raise a stink and have it gain traction. Social media's given every one a voice and there are an endless amount of morons in the world.
👏👏👏👏👏👏my thought exactly
But only the easily offended people watch cable news these days ...
I know. This whole bit was dumber than people being triggered.
Maybe she wanted it for home so she didn’t have to drive to the gym every day?
April N. And mabey it would have been a GREAT idea to in nclude that in the ad to avoid the various interpretations. #Messaging
Saimazing Life I don’t think it’s necessary to put every hypothetical scenario into a commercial. People are reading WAY to much into it.
This same ad has been on antenna television for nearly two months. The moment it went on social media it has been deemed sexist. Absolute insanity.
I dunno about sexist but pointless yes!
I looked up the ad to see if just maybe there was something to this; imagine my shock when I realized huh, this is the same commercial I've been seeing for months on the t.v.
I had to lose weight for an operation. It took me two years. I walked over 1,100 miles, and I lost 100 pounds. Nobody helped me. I would have been so happy to have had such a wonderful fitness machine, because motivation is so damned important.
There’s a full gym in my house and no fooker uses it.
You did it! Congratulations 🎊
I’m assuming everyone is upset because if she’s on the peloton, she doesn’t have a free hand to make her husband a sandwich?!?

It might be if it were intentional because there's no way any marketing director would've suggested that there might've been backlash over the ad because there's NOT A THING WRONG WITH IT. Why are people so dumb
John Mendoza thank you . Lol . We know how to market ads these days . Just mix up the snow flake machine market to them and they’ll talk about to the people that will buy . Ingenious ! Lol

Not really. There sales are dropping big time.
Also not really offended. This ad is just.. weird. Like horrible acting? That’s the only vibe I get. And when people desperately try to relate and fail. Its embarrassing
I’d still buy it, but marketing needs to be helped lol

People like to be offended by everything these days, maybe the wife loves to exercise and wanted a Peleton bike and her husband got it for her. If she was obese people would be offended by that too.
That is the point of people who are offended, because everything about the ad gives the impression the husband is saying she needs to exercise more, but that she's afraid to say she didn't want to do so. I get absolutely no vibe of "Oh, Honey, thank you so much!", but instead it more like, "Oh, crap, I guess I'll have to make him think I used it or risk getting the crap kicked out of me."
@@gregtippitt3088 this. the way that she described her 1st day being on it before even starting was saying she was nervous....if she really wanted such a "gift", then why be nervous? she already presents as someone who is very healthy, so it's a bizarre combination of factors within the commercial.....

Seemed like a regular commercial to me... I don't get the backlash
bradhuygens did the wife say she wanted a bike? How was she "changed" a year later? The ad department didn't think it through. They will next time.
@@namastewellness Yes, it's reasonable to assume she did, just as you would in any commercial. She was changed because she improved her life. It's not complicated

Me neither
Feels like I should be offended at your lack of being offended, but I'll wait until the internet tells me what to think before I make that decision.
You hit the nail on the head with that one. Exactly correct.
Ridiculous. What a sensitive weak society we are becoming.
It makes me want to buy a Pelaton Bike. As soon as I have a nap after finishing this bag of donuts!

how is it a bad commercial? have you ever seen those 2am ads on tv?!
It’s a great commercial. Exercise just isn’t about losing weight. It’s about being healthy both mentally and physically. Everyone should be exercising. A real person problem would have grown over that year mentally and physically.
Exercising isn’t always about losing weight. There are many benefits both physical and mental. How it it “bad”?

Perhaps she suffers from depression and studies show that exercise is a great way to deplete that. Maybe she's training for something. Maybe she wanted to take up biking as a hobby and this bike is great for the winter. So many possibilities and you idiots only look at the way a person looks. What's insane is the same people that complain it's a skinny woman on a bike are the same people who will say that Peloton is fat shaming if it were a fat person in the commercial.

Remember when this was the most of our worries 😂
How else do people expect a company that sells exercise equipment to advertise during the holiday season? 🤔
I could as easily make the point that the ad discriminates men because its the woman working out while the man is lazy and does nothing

lol, it's like rich people are saying, "We can say whatever we want, and if you're mad, it's 'cause you're a poor loser." This is why people hate billionaires these days.
Yeah. That actually summed it up for me. Only fat and poor people would whine about the bike ad.
Are they lying ? Lmaooo
It was actually one of the few decent ads on TV at the moment.
I looked over and over and over again and I still didn't see anything wrong with this commercial it's the people who is offensive not the commercial.
But, would you videotape yourself every day, then play it back for your husband a year later? Scary!
You could buy an actual bike for a lot less.
People love being outraged for no reason.
Imagine having nothing better to do with your life than micro analyze ads to find something to be offended about🤣
i literally had a discussion about how bad the commercial was in my college english class and i told my teacher its not that bad lmao.
I like the commercial. Great message; good way to promote a product. Bonus is that Peloton is being rebellious, it shows that they have 'back-bone'. There needs to be more of that kind of marketing today, me thinks.
How is dropping $2000. for a stationary bike, for your apparently desperate wife, rebellious?
@@germanshepherdfan8901 It's rebellious because it is a 'normal' commercial.
Consider: A husband buys his wife a gift that she not only likes, but benefits from later on. Simple concept, yes? Well, apparently, when the commercial first came out, it went under a bit of scrutiny for being 'sexist' and 'oppressive'. You see, many claimed that the husband bought the bike because HE thought SHE was unfit(i.e. fat); that HE wanted HER to be thin and pretty for HIM. Ridicules? I suppose it would depend on who you converse with, I guess.
The people outraged about this ad are probably some of the same ones who buy a power walking dvd and have yet to unwrap it:D
