Another banger guys. So so good. Banter at the start with Andrew throwing shade at Ed was hilarious 😂 I’m so glad Ed you mentioned at the end that the Kiwi dream for some is not owning a home at all. That’s me too🙋🏽♀️ Suits my life style, future goals and my pov on being ‘financially free’. Look forward to the next one boys ✊🏽
If you don't do both simultaneously then you'll end up with a mortgage free house and no investments. You'll lose the compounding effect of investments over time.
Financial success / freedom / Kiwi dream for me, is simply that: 1) when i wake up each morning im not worried about lack of money 2) and im not worried about lack of money in the next 10 / 20 / 30 / 40+ years
A weatherboard home until I had the maintenance bill for it ? So pray tell what is you ideal maintenance free cladding ? I think you will find there is no such thing and it’s lack of maintenance that is the sole reason for failure of most claddings
Brick, plaster, block and color steel are just a few and then you have the plastic's like palaside and blar blar sorry there are a lot that are easier and lower maintenance
It's hard to say what the Kiwi dream is anymore: Based on my experiences/interactions with NZ classes/wealth skew in their perspectives and my interpretations of them. Generally... - Farmers will say to work their property until their kids take over and then kick it up at the family home etc. - Week to Week families will generally dream of just owning a home and some land to grow food to reduce costs - Office career workers/similar industries: They'll be aiming for a additional rental property/To retire 50-65 and maybe have 1 other alternative(Which always varies as a side hustle of choice) - Alt life stylers: Broad and sweeping levels of interesting dynamics they'll endure in one way or another to sustain that - Already off the rat-race/ladder(Investors): Chasing stable income and the sun where their passport takes them generally/passion projects etc. Everyone agrees on this though funnily: To afford dental here haha :)
Has th dream changed, or the belief it can be achieved changed? I have the 500sq 3 bed , just in a shit area. Dream is to have the same, just closer to the beach. Its not hard to maintain at all thats a bit silly to be honest. Town houses have become the target because folks don't believe they can achieve the dream and maintain quality of life.
The dream for my parents who were of the boomer generation and could aspire to the quarter acre section was to retire at the typical age of 60 rather than 65, and they didnt expect to live as long as we do now in retirement.
So true, have to get out to the regions for better quality I have found. We couldn't believe the kids playgrounds at homes we looked at in Taranaki amazing.
Shit just getting to retirement is my goal and hope like hell my investments allow me to enjoy it 😂😂 dont want to know how much houses are going to cost in 20 years
The quarter acre is still awesome. Lots of room for the kids, garden, garage and living. Wouldn't be without it 😊
Yeah totally the shine really came off city living over lockdowns, never returned with remote work.

17:20 what if the rate of return is lower on other traditional investments? wouldn't paying off your home in high interest markets make more sense?

I like houses built in the 70's. Brick veneer. Hardiplank. Eaves. Boric treated timber. Insulated.

If material possessions and "living the dream" bring happiness, then movie stars should be the happiest people in the world.

Good discussion one salient points. I would like five rentals paid off.

The quality of the houses in New Zealand is very poor. The money you pay for the house does not reflect the quality of the house. 👎💯
