  • On Thursday, February 4th, 2016, the Toronto Police Service was pleased to host a graduation ceremony for 44 new police recruits at the Toronto Police College.
    In this video, members of Recruit Class 15-03 and senior Command officers discuss what makes a good police officer, and reflect on the role of community service in policing, as well as their skills, training, and competencies, and the pride they hold in the uniform.
    Toronto Police Recruit Graduation Class 15-03 is representative of Toronto’s diverse cultural community and brings a superior level of varied knowledge and abilities to the Service, including language skills, previous military or policing experience and post-secondary education.
    The class is comprised of 47.7% women, the highest-ever percentage of female recruits for the Service, and 34.1% visible minority members. A total of 93.2% successfully completed post-secondary education and 40.9% have previous military or policing experience. A total of 70.5% of the class speak a language other than English, including Afrikaans, American Sign Language, Arabic, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Creole, Croatian, Filipino, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Mandarin, Patois, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Slovak, Spanish, Thai, Twi and Ukrainian. Of the 31 new recruits who speak a second language, 36.4% speak two or more languages other than English.
