For once in my life I'm grateful to the RUclips algorithm for suggesting this video. This is like if Amy Santiago of Brooklyn Nine Nine played D&D and I'm all about this.
Running my own game and im kind of tempted to make something like this that they can fill out themselves. It's a small group and it's alot of their first times playing and I want to make it memorable!
This is my favorite thing ever! The cards are a good idea and i love the colors and use of stickers. I can't wait to make one of my characters! One's a Rogue and the other's a Ranger!
Nice, I use ARC system which is the same notebook disk system, but different disk sizes... I'm usually the DM/GM and its great to rip out the pages and insert little notes into the pages... GOOD JOB! People need to use these disk books more!
I never considered going all crafty/scrapbooking my sheets but I love it. I just started using disc bound for my "random one shots" character. I love the way you did spells on q-cards, might steal it.
Deciding where to put what really helps me learn a character- especially a higher level one shot character. It’s hard enough to remember what I can do as I develop a character, the one offs really have a steep learning curve.
@@GigglingKat I'm going to try it out I think. Might just make a cheat sheet of which spells do what - attack/buff/heal etc. I need a bit of a break from DMing and to be able to play when we are missing someone, my group decided we are each going to create the same character at 4 different levels and just play one shots now and then - rotating DM's. But my level 7 version has more spells than I'm used to dealing with do it was a little rough the first time.
Great recommendation. This wasn't something I was looking for but wound up being something that I need as I figure out how to organize my character sheets and notes.
This is great! I have some new players that are struggling with referencing their character sheet and utilities on the fly and hopefully I can show them this and they can take a little and take a lot from it!
The character sheet - like on DND Beyond's walkthrough - is good for building the character - but I found that breaking it up into "Rolls", "Things to do on My Turn" and "Things to do on Their Turn" were more helpful when playing the character
Someone who’s orderly*. They are two different things. Someone with OCD doesn’t have to be orderly and can be the messiest/ disorganised person alive. Please don’t misuse this crippling mental illness for people that are nothing but neat freaks and perfectionist. Sure OCD symptoms can overlap with perfectionism, the same autism and many other mental illnesses and learning disabilities can but that’s not the only way the disorder can manifest itself in.
i love your combat page! i'm always at a loss for what to do on my turn lol mapping it out like that is a great idea... and those color coded spells :o !!!
Sorry I am late to the party, but WOW. I just found your channel, and am very impressed by this video. I really need this level of organization in my D&D life now. Thank you!
I use a happy notes notebook for my notebook, I use forms and stickers, and use the left side to literally scrapbook my session notes, lol. I'm with you all the way, and love this!
I AM NOT ALONE. lol I've changed over to a happy planner for my daily and that sounds like a great idea! At the moment, the Arc/Tul half sheets win mostly due to playing space and that you can fold a standard sheet in half - so that's defined my current sheets quite a bit. But shoooooooow meeeeeeeee..... I wanna see the stickers! LOL.
that's so damn perfect! Thank You so much for sharing this here it is exactly what a needed i just keep forgetting details I can do in game and this will help me A LOT
Thanks - DNDBeyond has them tagged now if they are an attack which, along with prepped gets me to my "red on the front page" - but still not anything else. I really need those 4 categories when I play - otherwise indecisiveness occurs and slows down the game. But I have lately tried to go more digital.
I know your description said that it isn't meant as a professional run through but I would love to see one! I'm looking into making this exact thing so it would be extremely helpful 🥰 It's a great inspiration too, though and I'm glad I found this video
I'm not a scrapbooker but the way of organizing bonus actions is super cool. I just made a video ho I designed my character sheet and journal to better organize the informations
heheheheheh ye i just started dming.... never make a scrapbooker dm because now i have a notebook full of notes and handy stuff i want to have on hand all in scrapbook style :)
i was just thinking, most druids are the hippie type but now i want to make a druid who had to be a druid by force and they hate druids and nature and all that. they were basically cursed to be a druid forever because of it.
Another complete stranger who saw this pop up on their sidebar- this journal is so cute and I *never* would've thought to lay spells out like that! And those reminder stickers!! Did you make those yourself? They're super cool.
Nope - they are just post its and stickers I've collected over the years from various places. The spell layout is in part because I'm a kinetic learner and I wanted something to touch and move around to get it into my own brain. It's great so many people like it!
@@GigglingKat As another kinetic learner, I totally get that!! Breaking it into chunks + colour coding them is an amazing idea to help keep the info relevant in the brain. And ooh, that makes sense. Smart way to make use of them tbh- it makes for a sheet with a lot of personality. Thank you! :D
I should post an update. I made this for like 3 people to see but the algorithm is apparently running out of things to throw at people.... the books can be found ar Office Depot or staples - amazon might have them too. “Disc bound notebook” should get you what you’re looking for.

Ok so... im new to DND and I was looking for something like this. I HAVE NO CLUE ON HOW THIS WILL GO. I have my very first dnd game this Sunday. I'm so not prepared and idk what to expect. I want to make a character book for my Bard. Can u give me some tips?
YOU WILL BE FINE. from your channel title I assume you are a gamer. The difference between this and video gaming is mainly in dynamic. Basically you are a party. As a bard these are the most fantastic people you know. You hang out to find out what happens next! Depending on how high your charisma is, you either talk the bar out of the brawl and get free drinks for the night or you start the brawl yourself with a badly timed your momma joke. Another difference is the way Death gets handled and you can’t just smash things in front of npcs. But not knowing what you are doing makes the best stories.
I love the way you did this! Very good job. I have a question though. I haven't seen a spell slot management system like you have. I know it's probably used out there, but I haven't seen it. I use spell slot cards and it's cumbersome ... How does your system work? How do you keep track of slots you have left? Thanks and again ... great idea!
At the 3:02 mark you can see my spell tracker on the left - it's 3 columns - 1st is spell level - 1-9; next is the spell slots I currently have at my level; last is what ever is remaining. I just write a countdown during the game in pencil
I have the Tul hole punch - www.officesupply.com/office-supplies/general-supplies/paper-punches/heavy-duty-hole-punches/discbound-notebook-system-hole-punch-silver/p787886.html - Staples Arc will also work.
YOU ASKED FOR THIS. 2 of 4 players are first timers. This is the DMs first time DMing and she was terrified of killing us at level 1 and turning off the 1st timers from D&D forever. She ended up making a homebrew as a result. So in an early l2/l3 session, we faced off with a giant. No one rolled 10-16 the entire fight, so it was good, then bad, then REALLY Bad and then EXTREMELY good. We won but we were all more than a little punchy. We start looting the giant's bag and he had a stuffed badger. It becomes "stuck" to our barbarian and we are not out of imitative order yet. As it turned out, it's a baby mimic and it's trying to eat the barbarian through several layers and only doing about 1 HP per round damage. Next up is the trickster domain cleric who still has the giggles and one remaining spell slot. She declares that she's looking to see if she has "anything that will make this more ridiculous" and after a pause burst into hysterical laughter. She pulls herself together long enough to say, "I cast Calm Emotions." Everyone fails - except the bard who loves her and lets it happen. So now the barbarian is still being eaten in the slowest manner possible but now we're all okay with it. The barbarian goes next and after his own long pause decides to lean into it and just starts petting the baby badger-mimic. And that's how we got a pet mimic the barbarian named Toothy McBiteypants. Needless to say - I cast Calm Emotions - became a meme in our group and something the cleric did quite a bit. As we leveled up and came across the evil necromantic army, through a turn of events that is just way to long to explain - we ended up at The Place ahead of the BBEGs. We were pretty sure we were going to TPK at any moment. The bard decided to use a gift from the Raven Queen - a homebrew that essentially is a pokeball for zombies. It puts them in my rock and I can then use it to launch them out of the Magic Bubble World we have since figured out we're in. Turns out The Place is what's *powering* the Magic Bubble World and after breaking the DM's brain and several rolls, it turns out I'd turned the Magic Bubble into my magic zombie rock and everything dead within it basically came back. I done effed up. So the cleric did what she hadn't done for a good 15 sessions. She cast Calm Emotions. Now everyone in the Magic Bubble World may or may not be a zombie and we're all okay about this.
They are from various Happy Planner sticker books - I'm a planner and a scrapbooker. There's colorful boxes: thehappyplanner.com/products/colorful-boxes-value-pack?_pos=3&_sid=09680df6b&_ss=r and Colorful boxes 2: thehappyplanner.com/products/value-pack-stickers-colorful-boxes-2?_pos=4&_sid=09680df6b&_ss=r -- it would be $40 to buy new - I'm not sure I'd reccommend it for just DND books - but you can get BOGO sales at Joanne's and Michael's every once in a while. Target and Walmart will sometimes have clearance sales as well.
hakirby yes Rocket is a 5e bard in a home brew setting. ZsaZsa is a Druid in a straight 5e campaign. Honey heist is an insane and delightful table top designed to play with one 6 sided regular die and we crammed it on top of Curse of Strahd campaign to hilarious effects.

Binders. Plural.
OK BUT overhead videos are SO hard to film, all of the respect for you. This is great! "Must group hug to open tiny hut" is probably my fav.

I really enjoyed this video! I recently got a disc bound notebook to start my first game in and this gives me ideas for how to set it up!
Gosh this video is so casual that RUclips says it was created 12 months ago instead of a year. Cool work btw, these are some helpful ideas.

Fantastic system! The colour coding and bonus tabs for your spells is perfect!
