A little backstory as to why it seemed like there were so few Canadians.
Since we didn’t qualify for Copa America until March, many of us waited until then to get tickets as we were expecting CONMEBOL to provide us with a Supporters section.
It’s a common practice for World Cup and the Euros for FIFA and UEFA to provide an allotment of tickets for qualified federations so they can have some tickets for their Supporters sections. Unfortunately, this is not the case with CONMEBOL.
We were lucky to even get a supporters section at all during our Copa America matches. But, CONMEBOL waited until the very last minute (like 10 days before the Opening Match) to agree to terms with us.
On average, we were lucky to get about 1000 fans at this semifinal, as well as the Opening Match! At the 2022 World Cup, we had a contingent of about 4,000 strong.
Trust me! There would have been a lot more of us Canadian fans at these matches if we don’t have to jump through so many hoops for this. Lesson learned for future Copa America tournaments if ever get invited again.
