  • During the last century, as moose populations in northern New England increased, moose expanded their range and in the 1980s returned to Massachusetts for the first time in nearly 300 years. Today, 40 years later, Massachusetts' moose population is estimated to be from 1,000-1,500 individuals. What that means is that seeing a moose in the Commonwealth is still a rare treat.
This 2-minute sequence includes several moose recordings--including a mother and baby!--from the last few months. Also included are a few clips of other wildlife species, most of which would have been, like a moose, either extremely rare or absolutely impossible to find in Northampton during the 18th, 19th or early 20th centuries.
Turn up your volume for the ambient sounds--from the moose snuffle to the hooting owl and bobcat mew!
Recorded on a Browning Recon Force Advantage
