- Chris Gaylord and Cody Quistad from Wage War talk about a fan who took his own life and the challenges in supporting struggling friends.
Jake Luhrs of August Burns Red started an online non-profit called HeartSupport to give his fans a place to talk about and overcome their struggles. His vision is to unite the scene--fans and bands alike--so that no one in the music scene has to struggle alone.

+Wage War Thank you guys for making this, and being inspiring.
It hit me when he said, that you get blind to the relationships you have, I cried instantly. Because I tried one time and know exactly what it feels like what he said and I am so fuckin sorry... my best friend was so super heartbroken and lost, but he waited for me to be okay to have that conversation. He told me about the time when I was in the psychiatry, how he felt and how much he missed me. We're like brothers. All the times I was too deep down and kinda thought it was a clever idea to end this friendship, he knew what was necessary to do and didnt let me go - he never blamed me for that. But when I tried to end my life it was too much for him. ... Today I am so thankful that he never let me go and so sorry for all the things Ive done to him, thinking Id only do to myself. Depression makes you blind.
So glad I am here. So glad I got that far, so no one will ever have to worry that much about me anymore. So glad I am able to see and appreciate the relationships I have now.
Fuck the people that disliked this video, this is a very real thing and it's rare to see people nowadays that actually care about their fans like Wage War do. I want to say more but it's already in other comments. Please read them, they're filled with reasons why your life matters and that you are loved and cared for, if you're reading this I hope everything in your life goes your way from now on, and you are special, express yourself and never hide your true self.
this is what makes rock music so good and the bands, they actually care about their fans
Hopsin is a rapper and he plays xbox with his fans and even calls his fans on the phone.
michael g But metal is satanic xD
michael g it's metalcore not rock lol
Mysterious Wolf I've always understood metal as rock
Jorge Gonzalez why it doesn't make any sense tbh
How dare people dislike this
These guys are amazing dudes
Just discovered their band, and I'm blown away. So much talent and so much heart. We need a band like this in the scene, thanks for creating music Wage War.
How can anyone dislike such an emotional video
is it just me or is cody trying really hard not to cry
No it's not just you, I thought the same too.
Matt Magee He visibly looks as if he's gonna cry
well yea bro that fan was acually something to him duh.
I noticed that too 🥺💔
This is why Youngblood is one of the greatest songs ever.
This is why they are one of the greatest bands ever
Alexander Matte me too
Best song they made (imo)
I come to this sometimes when I'm feeling suicidal again
Hang in there, like they said, life is worth living. Trust you'll overcome this. God bless you I'll pray for you tonight :)
"suicide is selfish".. its a myth.
Kenneth Kanniff Depression and suicide is far from selfish.
Found Wage War through a friend in Ocala, Florida where they're from when they were just starting out and loved Alive when I came out. I went to they're first show at Chain Reaction in Anaheim not knowing what to expect, but what I saw was the single best performance I've ever seen from a new band. The whole set was pure madness and brutality, but the last song is what surprised me the most. Hearing Youngblood after not hearing it prior was very emotional. The last half of the song brought Briton on his knees as he was crying the lyrics out. This had me tearing up and I couldn't believe how much emotion I saw up there. After the show I asked for a hug and told him that was the most brilliant thing I've ever seen. It is so important that bands like this exist and keep spreading the word about stuff like this that happens. Because of that performance, I will never not share about it and spread the word myself. Thank you Wage War for giving me a memory like this to share.
And people say that metalheads are angry hateful people... no...we probably have more love than the average person!
i never not cry when i watch this. i love this band and their message so damn much.
this is extremely admirable of the band to do. especially with such a sensitive subject in their lives. fans feel a better connection
Seriously, you'll never see pop stars do this in person like these bands do. It's why I'll never take mainstream music seriously. It's all a manufactured lie.
This is why i only listen to metal
Caleb MacMoyer kind of a dumb generalisation
@@nomeru_0no. It isn’t
@@chasekemp6915 oh no it 100% is. Do you not know how many douche bags are in the metalcore bands? lol Music doesn't define a personality. Metal fans make metal their whole personality so it makes sense why you guys see in such black and white. In the real world it doesn't work like that
I think one of the biggest lies put out by people is that "Suicide is Selfish." More often times than not someone who is suicidally depressed feels that if they remove themself from the equation that things will get better for those around... "its a wonderful life (1946)" is a fantastic movie that depicts the scenario perfectly and spoke volumes to me when I was in that position.
I think "suicide is selfish" was meant to try and stop people from taking their own life, as counterproductive as it seems and often is. Trying to associate suicide with selfishness is a bit of a double-edged sword - yeah, maybe it can appeal to the selfless side of a suicidal person, but it can also give the implication that you don't understand them, which just makes it that much easier to actually go through with it.

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck this hit hard. I overdosed about a week ago and when I got out of the hospital Youngblood was the first song that came up (I put all my songs on shuffle). If they ever see this I just wanna let you know you've been there for me for so long now and I can't thank you enough

This almost made me cry
It's really hard to not tear up watching this. I hope everyone who needs the help gets it! Life is definitely worth living! "One must taste bitter, before they taste sweet." ❤
We always love and remember Louis for his passion for music. Thanks is for being a part of that Wage War!
It's 2019 and I'm STILL crying
If only Louis knew how everyone truly felt. You're always loved no matter what the circumstances.
I got into you guys this past year (2016) leading into Warped Tour. Youngblood was a hard song to hear. In 2012 from January to march i had 4 classmates commit suicide, 2 in February within 2 days of eachother. When i saw you guys in Camden New Jersey and you played this is started to cry and look up at the sky.
This is what youngblood is about that song is amazing I haven’t even heard a song as good in a long time
this actually made me cry
I needed this😔
I've liked wage war for a few months now but this earned a lot of respect from me.
Thank you...so much
I've struggled with depression for as long as i can remember. I don't want to get into the details of my story, that's not the intention of this comment.
I broke down crying when i heard this song, and again when i watched this video. Wage war will forever be my favorite band, i have never seen a band that is so down to earth. This song and video resonates through me.
I love you guys, the music is amazing and so are you guys!

This is such a great brand
deppression ain't no joke :( damn this is deep
Luhrs started this? Wow, not surprised actually, but thats a neat thing
you got a new subscriber
I like what these guys are trying to say and they’re sending out good messages but for some people depression is so bad really nothing can be done in time ....
Luke, you are right, many people are suffering in silence and by the time help gets to them it is too late. That is why it's our mission to open up the conversation surrounding mental health and let people know they are not alone. We want everyone with depression, and anything else, to get the help they need and know they are loved. Thanks for watching the video!
Song in the beginning?
It appears we got this wrong the first time. It's Youngblood :)
It's Twenty One.
HeartSupport It's Twenty One, Not Youngblood
I love this band and I love Chris more for Gaylord being his last name dude they make me feel not ashamed for being mixed and listening to "white people" music around white people who expect me to be "black" ....I don't like Killswitch engage .... Dude was flirting with my mom and wanted my mom to pee on him....weird shit.
I think about suicide everyday. Sometimes I just eat that feeling like it's breakfast. ... It's sounds rediculous but I have nobody. Sometimes RUclips videos are all I have. Dude yeah you're guitar solos keep me going. I'm not asking for attention I'm just asking you guys keep playing and I could live a happy life even if I die alone in the back of my future 10ft box truck that I WILL convert to an off grid solar home.
