That’s what I never got. Kap was actually sitting down for the national anthem before all this.
It was Boyer who had a talk with Kap about taking a knee as a compromise. Kap did that because he didn’t want to make it seem like he was disrespecting the military.
Now the right wing crazies have highjacked that kneeling and made it out to be disrespectful to the military and this country which is complete nonsense.

The issue was that Kaep didnt explain it very well. It was when all the players started doing it together and again they didn't give a very good definition is when people started getting offended.

Bobby Clark he explained himself very well and clearly everyone just started misquoting him cuz they couldn't say his actual words were wrong. Also taking a knee has always been considered a sign of respect.

Exactly!!! People keep ignoring these facts. A former Green Beret advised Kaepernick that it would be better to kneel to show a sign of reverence. Kaepernick wasn't disrespecting the military. He kneeled at the request of a Green Beret.

I always saw the kneeling as having another significance. In the military when you have something to tell your soldiers (I can speak for the army) you tell them to take a knee. Its short for "gather round I have something important to tell you". If you agree with what Colin is protesting or not its important that people at least listen because we certainly could do a lot more of that, myself included. Its unfortunate that this was used as a political tool to generate support through anger and division by a certain person that will remain nameless.

    1. it (The song playing at sporting events) was not done to HONOR the military... it was done because of the conditions of the war and the fact we had soooo many troops died (a lot were black with still not equal treatment) and the moral of the country was low. Also, to combat the idea of communism and promote allegiance to USA. 2. Why is no one bringing up the fact that Tebow protested during the anthem for abortion???? It was so beloved that they called it "Tebow-ing" and became a thing even to the point it was in promos and comemrcials

Kaepernick NEVER said, “I’m kneeling because the military doesn’t deserve my respect and it’s a joke. I hate the USA.” He NEVER said that in why he knelt. What he said was, “There’s black people being killed by cops for no reason and unjustly. That’s not right and cops are getting paid leave for killing people. That needs to change.” He knelt to raise awareness on injustice and police brutality on black people. That’s why he did it. 🙁✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

Of course Kaepernick took a knee in protest against injustices against people of color and there is discussion about whether or not he did the
right thing, and of course there are people who have a problem with what he did. If Kaepernick were to take a knee for women and females' rights
and protest against inequality and injustices to women and females NOBODY would be complaining then, nobody would have any issue with it
whatsoever. EVERYBODY would praise Kaepernick, definitely these females, period point blank. Nobody would say he was "disrespecting the flag"
then. There would be no arguing or rationalizing or any discussion at all because there would be no reason for it because everybody would be on board. Just saying.

National anthem is for the military it’s not meant to be on a sporting event so if someone wants to protest or let’s say someone getting the beer during the national anthem do you tell him to have respect and turn around and put his hand on his heart or does he still get his beer and hotdogs people at home watching the event and they start playing the national anthem do you stand up and put their hand on your heart or do you go to the bathroom take a shit before the game

The people who protest the protest don't want to hear it. I disagree that we should recognize the inevitability of racism, and I honor Colin Kapernick for using his visibility as a celebrity to shine a light, to call it out and to say we must do better.

Kneeling has nothing to do with showing disrespect for the flag, or anything else. The Supreme Court says no one has to stand, so, that's the end of it. What truly is disrespectful. Is men who won't remove their hats when the National Anthem is played.

    1) Why would you want to force a person to stand for a song and in the same token claim freedom? That makes no sense.
    2) The song is outwardly and blatantly disrespectful to my ancestors and black people in general. Would you require a Jewish person to stamd for Nazi songs and celebratory practices? No. You'd have enough sense to not do some dumb shit like that.
    3) Ive been to several NFL stadiums and other sports stadiums and events in general. While its being played thousands of people are sitting, walking around, talking, cussing, arguing, fighting, having sex and no one cared or care now. Now, all of a sudden we want to pretend while ignoring what this is really about.

I don’t have a problem with someone kneeling during the anthem, we don’t know the context of their actions and should listen first before being outraged like some SJWs
. I’ll take the taking a knee protest over looting, arson, shooting, stabbing. Even though I may not like it as a patriot, as a patriot I also defend his right to express his concerns lawfully and not hurting anyone the way it should be.

On the surface, Nate Boyer sounds like a decent and intelligent guy. However, the fact that he never brings up the matter of WHY Kaepernick was protesting in the first place and he never seems to grasp the sense of urgency and desperation Black people are feeling in this country... well, that says a lot. Don't go around saying you fought for the freedoms of ALL Americans when you can't even acknowledge that police are killing unarmed Black people with impunity. It's shameful! He's just another White guy trying to diminish and silence Black voices. If these White people never bring up the matter of police brutality, they ain't sayin' NOTHIN'.

Both sides of this issue have a very distorted and baseless view of Nate Boyer. Most people don't know his name, that he was a green beret, and that he's very patriotic. The truth is much different than what I've heard from people on either side of this... and it's not even necessary. People don't care about facts or content anymore. If something they hear from someone else's mouth serves their purpose, they'll repeat it without hesitation. Knowing anything beyond one's agenda doesn't matter anymore and that is scary. It's not useful for people trying to make a change like Kaepernick or for people who see something wrong with a form of protest they find disrespectful, for that matter. It is useful for people or organizations with the intent to deceive others and undermine their trust for personal gain.

  • @baccaratfitness2360

It's interesting, when someone says they're 'hurt' by the protests, I'm much more sympathetic and I'm more willing to take in their point of view and be more flexible in mine. Whereas if you shout that it's disrespectful and call the protesters names I get more entrenched in my stance and get more defensive. He's right in that we need to be able to listen to the other side even if we don't agree with it. We're all Americans in the end.

This! West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943), is a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court holding that the First Amendment protects students from being compelled to salute the American flag or say the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools. And it applies to Colin’s right to respectfully protest on his knee.

1941 the NFL started playing the National Anthem. Playing the national anthem before the start of regular season baseball games became the standard. And with the U.S. in World War II now, the National Football League also included the playing of the anthem before games. It hasn't been 100 years...

Maybe it’s not worth respecting when there so much wrong in which he was proved beyond reasonable doubt in the George Floyd case. At the end of the day we respect veterans because the make sacrifices against regimes that don’t give us these freedoms. The day you start forcing people to stand, is the day you lose complete respect because that is what totalitarian governments do and people with respect and reason don’t really want anything to do with that. It becomes a rally not an act of respect.
