Really enjoyed this video! I am an aging electrical engineer, not a technician (just being honest) so my bench skills are not high quality; Thank God for youtube! I bought an eBay IM 2410 for a specific purpose (I need to calibrate ribbon microphone tension at a very low frequency of 16.5 Hz) and while I did not pay $12 for mine, I paid less than $65 so I was happy. VERY happy to learn everything is socketed! Unit is not here yet, but Mr. Radio Mechanic? You have given me hope I can calibrate it and use it for this specific purpose. Off to watch more of your videos. And speaking of microphones, you come in 5x5 and sound great! So I have a lot to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving!

Bought one of these brand new years ago. Yes was in kit form and very fun to assemble and test. Has always been a good counter. Had the front end diodes go bad one time but was easy to fix. Thanks for sharing.

The price was right for the 10 buck test bench series. Not nearly as good as my HP, but about 3 orders of magnitude cheaper. Thanks for watching.

I recognize this video is from a while ago, but wonder if you have any recollections that might help me. I was given this model and I've been poking at it to increase stability. I've replaced the crystal with a tiny synthesizer that uses a TCXO. I'll be adding the ability to us 1pps GPS eventually. Rock solid now! However, I've noted from the beginning that the LED driver chips run really hot and wondered if you have noticed this too? Left idling, the whole unit gets pretty warm! Not exactly helping the stability when the colorburst crystal was in use...
Digging around, I found that the big resistor across the regulator you replaced is 20 ohms, not the 10 ohms shown in the manual. And it runs really warm too. My 5 V is actually only reading as 4.75, so I'm wondering if the resistor is correct or not.
Anyway, wondering if you've noted any excessive heat yourself?

Does the im-2410 read frequency over rf?

Yes, I have one. A rubber duck or wire on it grabs rf out of the air!

I guess the more experienced we get on the test bench the more we tend to forget the First Commandment of Electronics Repair: Thou Shalt Take Voltage Measurements Before Any Other. Just can't beat Heathkit stuff for getting it done for little money.
