- Zwolle is a city and municipality in the North East of the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of Overijssel. Zwolle is located on the border with the province of Gelderland, which follows the river IJssel, not far from Flevoland to the northwest and the province of Drenthe to the northeast.
It currently has a population of just over 130000, and is the second-largest municipality in Over aissel after Enschede.
On 31 August 1230, the bishop of Utrecht granted Zwolle city rights, hence its 700 year jubilea in 1930.
Zwolle became a member of the Hanseatic league in 1294. This was originally a cooperative organization of merchants from German cities around the Baltic and North Sea. The Hanseatic league also included cities from the Low Countries (present-day Belgium and the Netherlands), as well as Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Other Hanseatic cities near Zwolle included Kampen, Deventer, Doesburg, Zutphen and Harderwijk.
In World War II, Zwolle was single-handedly liberated from the Germans by French-Canadian soldier Léo Major. He was made an honorary citizen of Zwolle in 2005, and a street is named after him, Leo Majorlaan.
Citizens of Zwol le are colloquially known as Blauwvingers, Blue fingers in English, which dates back to 1682 and is related to a payment controversy between Zwolle and Kampen involving counting copper coins to pay for the repair of the collapsed St Michael's church tower.
In January 1930, at the initiative of the College of Mayor and Aldermen and the V.V.V. tourist association established a committee for the festive commemoration of the 700th anniversary of Zwolle as a city. This Committee in turn formed twenty subcommittees. With a joint effort, plenty of festivities were organized for the period of 2 to 6 September 1930, with the construction of historic facades on Rodetorenplein as one of the biggest attractions.
The whole event was surrounded by festivities such as concerts, fireworks, demonstrations, competitions, parades, fairground attractions and a historical exhibition. Children's games were organized for 6500 children in different districts and neighbourhoods. As a lasting memory, a relief depicting the handing over of the city letter by the Bishop of Utrecht was attached to the wall next to the Sassenpoort. The municipal staff got three afternoons off. A festive gift was available for needy residents ranging from 1 to 3 Dutch Guilders.
The film itself starts with a shot of the mayor of Zwolle, Mr. I.A. van Royen, followed by members of the jubilee committee.
The most interesting part of this film are the shots of the old city of Zwolle, especially with the Kamper Poort and the so called Peperbus, the nick name for the 75 meter high Onze Lieve Vrouwe tower, one of Zwolle's famous landmarks.
In the footage about "Oud Swolle" we see how the old city center has been reconstructed. There is also a merry-go-round and a group of musicians in traditional costumes perform.
The official opening of the festivities took place on the party site in the garden of the Buitensociëteit by Mayor Van Royen.
The second half of the film shows the Open Air Game, "Swolle City 1230", written by C.J. Zebinding Baggerman, performed at the De Kranenburg estate, with Frank Luns as Artistic leader.
The festivities conclude in the wonderfully lit city at night with a historic procession representing the arrival of Count Willebrand van Oldenburg, the Bishop of Utrecht and his retinue on the marke of Swolle. It depicts the events on 31 August 1230 during which the bishop grants Zwolle the city charter.

Denk dat over een jaar of wat met verder toegenomen rekenkracht vd computerchips en verbetering van ai de kleuren nasynchronisatie ook nog stukken beter wordt.

Wonderful old film! I enjoyed watching the reenactment of a historic even from the late 13th century, through the eyes and actions of those who came a hundred years before us. I also enjoyed the dual language narration. Although I don't understand the latter, it gives originality to the video as it was originally intended. Thank you.

De ai stemmen werken over het algemeen goed, meestal worden ze behoorlijk irritant om naar te luisteren. Als er commentaar bij moet, hoor ik veel liever de echte maker van deze prachtige documentaires 👍🏻😊.
Bovendien zou ik dit niet te vaak doen Rick. Het mooie van jouw kanaal is dat je optimaal kunt genieten van mooie beelden vergezeld van passende muziek, geen gepraat.
Dank je wel. Het probleem is dat RUclips content providers min of meer dwingt om documentaire-stijl video's met commentaar te maken, anders volgen er sancties wegens (vermeend) "re-used content". Ik ben al twee keer daardoor mijn monetization kwijt geraakt. Tegenwoordig gebruik ik ook geen enkel materiaal meer dat ergens anders al op RUclips staat (voor zo ver ik kan nagaan). Het gebruik van electronische stemmen doe ik nu ook niet meer want ook daar is RUclips op tegen.
Oude films restaureren en inkleuren vindt RUclips van geen toegevoegde waarde (is me letterlijk door ze verteld). Sowieso is RUclips niet bepaald vriendelijk tegen kanalen die zich bezig houden met historie. Men kan beter een kat-op-een-robotstofzuiger-video maken...
Ik ben het helemaal met dit commentaar eens.
Ik wist alleen niet, Rick, dat youtube het "gewone" creators zo lastig maakt!
Is het geen verstandig idee, om, zoals meerderen doen, een kleine inleiding op youtube te zetten, met een link naar een alternatief kanaal?

Om iedereen blij te maken zou je natuurlijk dezelfde beelden dubbel kunnen aanbieden met 1 video zonder voice over en 1 met voice over.

@@Rick88888888 Dan zou je gebruik kunnen maken van chapters zodat mensen kunnen skippen naar het onderdeel wat ze willen, of met de voiceover duidelijk maken naar welk tijdstip ze kunnen skippen. Ik vind het heel jammer dat youtube hier zo moeilijk over doet, ik heb ook vernomen van andere youtubers dat ze hier mee worstelen. In principe zou ik zeggen om op je kanaal te zetten wat je zelf leuk vind en ook wat het publiek graag ziet, en niet zo naar youtube te luisteren. The English narration was great, I hope you use Alex more in the future, without it we wouldn't have known what an awesome event this was. One thing that I find incredible is how healthy everyone looks, I did not see one over weight person or anyone limping or using a cane. Do you know if there are families that have been there since 1230? Watching people from 90+ years ago dress up like people from 700 years before makes me think that 90 years wasn't that long ago. They did such a good job with their costumes, they look authentic. Thank you, I love your videos. I'm impressed.

when they were about eight in this film and they are still alive today they should be around 100 year old now! In about eight years zwolle will be 800 years since it got city rights.

Hi Rick, ik zou het bij Engels houden. De meeste Nederlanders spreken wel Engels, en ik vind het vervelend om het commentaar 2x te horen. Ook denk ik dat veel Engelstalige kijken, dus voor hen is het ook beter denk ik.

I thought so too, but yesterday I read that RUclips can penalize channels that use such voices, so I won't do it again. Strange, because A.I. voices have now become indistinguishable from real voices. Nothing robotic more about them and they add a professionality to the videos. Oh well, back to using my own voice again next time... Arguing against a giant like RUclips is wasted time.
@@Rick88888888 What could possibly be their reasoning to come up with that decision. That's like when you get asked to prove you're not a robot, and it's a robot asking the question. RUclips is great, but it's losing it's greatness. I hope someone comes along with a platform that is not so controlling, the way youtube used to be.

Voor mij hoeft er geen spraak bij, geen Nederlands en ook geen Engels. Ik vond het juist heel prettig om de beelden te zien met een fijn muziekje op de achtergrond. Met alleen een titel waarover het gaat begrijp ik de festiviteiten zo ook wel. Trouwens wel erg veel informatie die over de toehoorders wordt uitgestort. Af en toe een tekst onderin het beeld zou ook volstaan. Zet hem op, ik volg je al langer en verheug me altijd als er weer een nieuw filmpje van jou op RUclips staat
Sorry, wen er maar vast aan dat al mijn videos voortaan van commentaar worden voorzien. De reden is dat RUclips mij anders weer in de tang neemt wegens "re-used content". Historische films restaureren en inkleuren heeft volgens RUclips nauwelijks toegevoegde waarde. Door het inkleuren en op juiste snelheid afspelen is het alsof het pas is opgenomen en heb je het gevoel dat je er life bij aanwezig bent. Heel knap.

This is awsome - I have a few films from a 100+ years ago that I'd like to AI enhance and colourise, how would I go about it? is there a plugin for Premiere Pro or standalone app I can buy? Have you a how to video up?
It's not just one piece of software but a 5 or 6 staged process plus a lot of skill and expertise. In the welcome video on my channel I provide some insight. That is as far as I will go.

The AI commentry is pretty good, although you can hear that it is still not a natural human voice. Some very small gaps and the complete absence of inhalation between sets of words give that away. As for the crossreferences between the two languages, There is nothing wrong to say. :-)

Ah, but RUclips does not agree with that. Every video apparently needs to be informative, preferably with talking heads, many on-screen texts etc. If I don´t add narration I´ll get hit on the head again by RUclips for not adding enough value...

@@vinceleblanc2433 No, much worse because they simply demonetize your entire channel without notice and without proper explanation (other than referring to their partnership rules). This has happened to me twice now. Don´t think for a minute that demonetization stops RUclips placing adds under all the channel´s videos, but in stead they then take the full 100% of that income.

I don't think the Dutch education is great anymore, in old schoolbooks all the old princes and princesses were depicted with names. We don't do that anymore, barely any medieval coverage. Lot of knowledge of the past getting lost through time because of bad maintaince I feel like.
All the names are still preserved in books, anybody can look up, why should we teach them to schooldchildren as if 800 years ago was like yesterday.
