Telugu poetic songs difficult to dub in other languages equally...Telugu is beautiful language with vowel ending words...which is not with popular Hindi language..But thanks for hindi dubbed superhit Telugu Annamayya 1997 movie helps all Indians to watch n know this devotional movie
Annamayya sankeertanas are legendary compositions. Even today in South India irrespective of languages in due course of learning carnatic music the keertanas are practiced in the same language that it was composed i.e Telugu... All music seekers from kannada , tamil , Malayalam , those north Indians who learn carnatic music all everybody learn them in its original format Telugu. Those compositions have no alters . Along with tyaga Raja krithis , muthuswami deekshitar , syama shastri songs - annamayya sankeertanas plays a very major role in the world of music.... I don't think translating them in the movie is a good job. Since 700 yrs they are learnt and practiced in the same original format - cuz many words have very deeper meaning and understanding which gets changed if it gets translated from its original format.... Dubbing the movie is good thing cuz all the Indians could learn the rich Indian heritage... But translating songs is not a good option .... We even sing the Meera bhajans , surdas Ghana , tulasi das rachna , tukaram ,Chaitanya Prabhu compositions all in original respective forms from braj , awadi , marati , Bengali ... Also Kabir ka dohe ... Annammayya sankeertanas holds the same level of importance. I hope you could have left over the songs part in its own language rather dubbing them into Hindi.... It lost its beauty by the song dubbings.... The movie is more and more famous for each of its songs... Even after 24 yrs after the movie release the songs are still evergreen and it will be evergreen for ages ... After all they are alive songs since 700yrs please don't translate them
Yes. They used to do it earlier. For example, when Shankarabharanam was dubbed in Tamil/Malayalam, they never changed the songs. They just left it in Telugu and people watched it so. Indians might think of Telugu as one more regional language, but it is not. Carnatic Music wouldn't exist without Telugu, It's basis itself is that language(people might disagree). In such, It's very special and one of its own. We need to remember, Even Hindustani classical music isn't sang in Hindi, It has Persian/Arabic roots. In that sense, Carnatic Music/Telugu language are very much INDIAN.
When it comes to the movie, the audience need to understand and the translation of keerthanas makes sense. If it is about teaching karnatic sangeet, then what you said makes sense.

The very essence of the movie is excellently dubbed , dubbings have always got their limitations , so please don't compare with the original Telugu movie because the keeetans can't be as poetic like in Telugu , but the essence of the lyrics is dubbed decently .
