The first thing you're going to want to do when you finish this series is to watch them all again... and then again. It seriously changes some people's lives. It makes sense reading the books because they are the source material. The movies omitted tons of interesting stuff. To me the books are the true story and the movies are mere shallow interpretations. Plus they turned Ron into a dumbass comic relief character and upped Hermione which is weird. And yeah I know they can't make a 100% faithful adaption because the movies would be like 19 hours each. I'm just saying I'm not a huge fan of the movies. I'd urge every movie Potter fan to read the books and notice the difference.

The worst part about the Dursleys choosing to make Harry sleep under the stairs is the fact that they allowed their son to have 2 bedrooms. Harry and Dudley are close in age and the Dursleys always had that house so when Harry came to live there, there was already a spare bedroom he could have gotten. Instead they filled the spare room with Dudley's toys, many of which were broken and could have been thrown away.

What she did was essentially make the first one for kids our age at the time, then each one progressed as we did and by the end they were adult movies so we didn’t outgrow the franchise.

It's actually really unfortunate that the casting was so good yet there were so many writing issues. It makes it really difficult to ever do a remake or series with new actors, but at the same time I'm desperate for a fully fleshed out series with every detail included.

The teacher that bought Harry the broom is Professor McGonagall, she is the head of the Gryffindor house so she is supposed to take care of every student under her house. She was also Harry's dad and mom teacher as well so it wasnt like Harry didnt have money to buy himself a broom. It was more of a gresture of kindness for Harry, that she will take care of him more then she would for other students in her house because of Harry's situation.

Firenze, the creature that saved Harry in the forest, is a centaur. The Medusa is a creature (Snake with the torso and head of a woman) who's gaze would turn you to stone. Both are from Greek mythology.

  • @kelligrayme

I wanted to answer one of your questions. Why would Professor McGonagall give Harry that broom? It's not talked about very much in the movies but each house in Hogwarts has a professor who is the head of that house. You'll learn more about the houses as the movies go. McGonagall is the head of Gryffindor, and a known Quidditch fan. She knew the team needed a seeker, that's why she brought Harry to Oliver Wood who is the Gryffindor Quidditch team captain. She wants to see Gryffindor win Quidditch matches lol She was also there the night they dropped Harry off at his aunt and uncle's when he was a baby. I'm sure she also feels a tinge of responsibility for him. She knows he doesn't have parents to buy him Quidditch gear.

The title "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was only used in the USA I guess the powers that be felt that Americans would not understand the reference about the Philosopher's Stone. However, many would have, even if not reading about it,recognized its reference inthe Manga and Japanese anime "Full Metal Alchemist ".I feel the American distributors under estimated their audience.

Oh and the reason why that one teacher cared enough to buy a broom for Harry is because she is the Head of Gryffindor House. The House Heads get competitive about their House winning the most points at the end of the year and winning Quidditch games. McGonagall saw Harry's potential and put him on the Gryffindor Quidditch team because she believed he'd help them win but Harry didn't have a broom. First year students aren't allowed to bring one so he couldn't buy one of his own to bring in even if he wanted to. So she did a loophole and bought one for him since he would otherwise have to use one of the old, school brooms (which are much slower, harder to control, and not reliable enough for the precision needed I'm Quidditch).

The original title is 'Philosopher's Stone'. For some reason, the American publisher decided that Americans wouldn't understand it, and so changed it to 'Sorcerer's Stone'. Belief in a 'philosopher's stone' was a real thing in the Middle Ages, and Nicholas Flamel was a real person.
The first book/film isn't really 'kiddy'. It introduces us to the main characters, who are only 11 when the story starts. So yes, it's lighter in tone, but still introduces very dark themes like prejudice.
'Privet' is pronounced 'PRIH-vett'. Yes, unfamiliar words can be tricky. It refers to a shrub often used for hedges. It may or may not have some reference to privacy. Similarly, 'cupboard' is pronounced 'CUB-bird'.
    Glad you enjoyed this!!

In the books, catching the snitch doesn’t automatically win the quidditch match. Not sure why they changed that in the movies.
The philosopher stone was the British name
The sorcerer stone was the international name (no difference from the philosopher stone)
Harry Potter with guns was the American version. (Had a few scenes that were different)
Walter Frey is the best 😜

I don't get that either, because they also messed up on Harry first handling the Golden Snitch when Oliver Wood was tasked with explaining the rules of the game to him. Snitches have flesh memories in the books, and therefore can remember a wizard/witch's magical signature and will only respond to them. Therefore, a fresh Golden Snitch must be used during every game or friendly, (practice), and can only be handled with gloves.

My one complaint of this movie is the casting of his parents. They were 21 when they died. The actors being 35 doesn't real convey that, but i think seeing his parents as only a few years older than the 7th years would have made the mirror and photos even more emotional

It was such a pleasure to hear your first thoughts watching this. I think most people completely overlook Ron Weasley. He is a real one. He is from a magic family, and has a bunch of older brothers, and his family is poor. Still, when he meets Harry on the train, he pulls out a sandwich his mom packed for him and offers half. At Christmas, he and his parents give Harry the first presents he ever had. During the chess game, he was willing to sacrifice himself when he didn’t know if he would be killed or not. Added to that, when Ron looked in the mirror to see his wish, it was to be celebrated and head boy of his class, to be the quidditch mvp and have his parents full attention and pride. He is a really interesting character and as he grows up, I think Ron is the real hero of the story.

#MajorReacts if you watch the deleted scenes Snape a fan of Shakespeare and approached Harry in his classroom scene, stating to him "I apologize for the death of your mother." But he was very cryptic about it.
Richard Harris who plays Dumbledore, has long since passed away after this film was made,is a singer and song writer, most of his song are on RUclips and you can listen to them for free(they are genuinely a masterpiece)
McGonagall bought that broom for harry to help you feel welcomed to the not only the school but to help out the house of Gryfindor win games.
