If you have paddled a few boards before and you find your balance is pretty good you could possibly jump onto this. But probably going for a bigger size would be better.

Ok, well one board that is killing it for us at the mo is the RRD LONGSUP but the Sunova is a great board too. We are trying to do more videos with boards at the same time. But we struggle with is getting them all at the same time from the brands. We will be pushing the brands in 2019 for more boards for sure. Thanks for your comment Reuben
Hi Reuben. I am looking for some advice on a prospective longboard SUP purchase. I am 6ft, 77kgs, 46 and paddling for 3 years, SUP surfing for a year and a half or so. I started out on a RP 10'6 Ride and I surf on an RP 8'10 Whip. I am happy enough catching waves up to 1.5 - 1.8 metres and I'm working towards 2 metres. I have the basics of SUP surfing down and have probably lost my "L" plates at this stage. I wouldn't say I am an intermediate surfer/paddler yet but working towards that. I am reasonably comfortable tracking down the line and I am currently working on sharpening up the basic bottom turns. I am looking for a longboard SUP that lends itself to nose-riding and slightly more sedate and stylish bottom turns as opposed to the more aggressive slashing turns up and down the face associated with performance longboarding. I found the transition from the Ride (240 lts) down to the Whip (150 lts) a bit of a shock but I am fairly happy now on the Whip in medium chop and in paddling out over 1.5 metre plus waves. It's time now to get a proper hard board and it's going to be a nose-rider. I keep coming back to the Sunova Style when it comes to what to buy. I am looking for a flat deck as opposed to a domed deck (rules out the RRD longboard) and probably looking at a 10 ft by 29 inch board. The two versions of the Style in 10 ft look interesting as they are fairly similar in weight and volume and have only 1.5 inches in difference in width. Which one would you recommend for someone like me looking for a longboard that lends itself to the slightly more sedate and stylish type of longboard surfing? Is the 10XXL going to handle like a tanker compared to my Whip or will it still be a board that I can progress on over time? Is the standard 10 a better option? Will the further drop in volume be a struggle or will the added length of the board compensate? Or is there another flat-decked 10 ft nose-rider that you can recommend that isn't super expensive? Thanks for any advice you can offer.
Hey Greenstick, Looks like you have been doing your research and I like the way you're thinking. First off there will be a big difference in riding style between your Whip and the Sunova's even the bigger one. You are not going to find the bigger 10 Sunova boring. Your still going to have to learn how to work the full length of the board but that will be the same with any longboard. I would say go for the wider one, It wont hold you back in the waves at all, but will enable you to catch more waves for sure. There will be other boards on the market that would suit you too but there's nothing which tells me you shouldn't go for the Sunova, like you said to, there a good price. @@SUPboardermag I met with the Irish Sunova rep today and had the opportunity to test-paddle the Sunova Style 10 x 29 x 131 lts. I was expecting the board to be less stable than my 8'10" Whip. I was very surprised to find that it was as stable if not more stable than the Whip! I paddled on a calm, freshwater lake but board seemed quite stable and glided nicely too when I got on the sweet spot. I found the deck to be a little more domed than I had expected but I don't think it's a fully domed deck, it's just that the sides taper down to the rails quite a bit. While I was there, I also took a spin on an 8'10" x 29 x 115 lts Steeze. I fully expected to end up in the drink on this board but managed to paddle it around and avoid a dunking! I never ever expected to find myself paddling a 115 lts board but it's possible, even for a low-level intermediate paddler. Board volume does not appear to be an absolute indication of how stable a board will be. Paddling these boards in the chop will be a whole different ball game but was very impressed with the stability of these two lowish volume Sunova boards. I now need to reassess which board I want to order but it looks like I'll be going a little lower in volume than I had originally thought. I'll let you know what board I choose and how it pans out when I get it out in some waves. Thanks.
