    I don't know how he does it, but Damh takes an already brilliant song and makes it even better! He did that with every song on the 'Tales from the Crowman' album!

    So pleased to have found this. I enjoyed Damh the Bard at 'Druid 2002 Conference'. For one day, a town hall spun with magic and time slipped away.

    I only know this song from Ray and Archie Fischer, and that was amazing the first time I heard it ! Still love their version, allthough the pictures and the music in this video can "tip" them. Thanks Beggindogs for giving me this wonderfull clip !!

    Wonderful ballad, reminded me of a popular saying: "fallen tree everybody makes firewood," there are many "ravens" ready to use the accomplishments of others, however, continue to be ravens While the good they can never steal your honor and dignity.

    Thank you! Your music is wonderful, and it is an honor to to have you comment on the video. All of my videos, with a few exceptions for personals and such, spring from the songs themselves. For yours I've done Cauldron Born, The Mabon and The Hills They Are Hollow as well. Thank you for your magical (and Celtic, oh yes) music. You are a true bard...:)

    I really hope that the owner of this account and all other users who left their comments here will be interested in the music material presented below. The song Twa Corbies (other performance) - the 1st track on the music album " A... New Stories From An Old Book..."
    The main part of the album "A... New Stories From An Old Book..." (except for the last two songs) was created by me in 1994-1995. It was based on the texts of old ballads, as well as poems by poets of Great Britain and Ireland of the 18th and 19th centuries (Robert Louis Stevenson, Walter Scott, George Gordon Byron, Thomas Moore, etc.). You can find some information about this, as well as lyrics and information about the musicians who provided their recordings for the sampler, in the "Lyrics" section, which is attached to each music composition (if this feature is supported on a specific site for streaming music). You can copy texts and information and translate them into your native language (many browsers have a built-in translator)!

    Very nice version - love the visuals. I think that his mistress has not "already taken another lover"; I think she was having an afffair and the knight was murdered by the other man. You see, the song says that she knows where he lies. She's obviously keeping quiet about it, because no one else knows what happened to him. Just sayin'.

    Just wondering, but does anyone else hear a difference between the song and the lyrics given in the description? The lyrics say "new-slain knight", but that doesn't sound to me like what is sung. It is a bit weird.

    • @Dr-FumbLeZ1
      @Dr-FumbLeZ1 10 лет назад +2

      The lyrics are written in Scots, which is the way this song is traditionally sung. If Damh had sung in Scots, you would likely have no clues what he is saying, Go to a random Wikipedia page and set the language to Scots, you will see what I mean.

    • @Dr-FumbLeZ1
      @Dr-FumbLeZ1 10 лет назад

      Sorry, I meant go to Scotland on Wikipedia, the language is listed there.

    • @EyeOfEld
      @EyeOfEld 10 лет назад

      What I mean is that it sounds like he sung a word that began with an "m" sound. It sounds to me a bit like mer-len, but I don't know of any word that sonds like that. Perhaps murdered?
      I may just be not hearing it right, though.

    • @Dr-FumbLeZ1
      @Dr-FumbLeZ1 10 лет назад

      I heard murdered knight as well

    • @TheScunneredMan
      @TheScunneredMan 10 лет назад +2

      Yea, as Joseph Wasill said, the song is sung in English, but the lyrics have been transcribed in the Scots form. Wee bit confusing, for some, but not of course for Scots, or those familiar with the Scots tongue, as I am. But nice version.

    I think that in the Scots version, the knight is a damned Englishman

    Not a derivative, it is perhaps older of the two.

    • @seanboyd2898
      @seanboyd2898 8 лет назад +2

      If there is a depressing version and a happier version, I find the depressing version is usually the older of the two.
      Granted the song could have started in England and moved up to Scotland later on, and changed by the cultural differences.

    • @TheCorvidsCorner

      Sean Boyd the tune for Twa Corbies actually comes from Brittany; An Alarc'h ( a ballad about events taking place in the 1330s)
      The story is similar to the three Ravens, but Twa Corbies was first recorded in the early 1400s and the English one is first recorded in the 1600s I believe, making the two songs different and the Scottish one older.

  • @arcticflower7223

    I find this really jarring in English. Or was it always in English?
    Not trying to negative but part of the fun was the scottoshness...

  • @murdochmclennan3510

    This version is creepy to the last degree.
    The Corries' version is better insofar as it uses the Scots tongue.
