    I love the prequels especially the Novelizations so I'm really looking forward to your reviews

      I love the novelization of Revenge of the Sith, but I haven't revisited the other two since their initial release--or most of these books to be honest! I hope this reread "arc" will be nostalgic and fun. :D

    I really enjoyed The Clone Wars era books. Certainly not heavy like NJO or Legacy. Although Revenge Of The Sith by Matthew Stover was very heavy and my most favorite book from The Clone Wars era. That was a brilliant read! You voiced before that Traitor was one of you favorites and I completely feel the same. Matthew Stover is one of my favorite authors for Star Wars. One inconsistent thing that I noted in Clone Wars era is that one author has Obi Wan drinking and another author actually has him against drinking. Other than that point they are quite consistent.
    Wonderful intro into the coming reads! I look forward to your review! Thanks Again!

      He orders a drink in Attack of the Clones so I’d say the Obi-Wan who occasionally imbibes is that accurate character trait.

      I especially love Yoda: Dark Rendezvous, and Revenge of the Sith is probably my favorite novelization, mainly because of how Stover fleshes out the story. (It's so poetic in parts.) I struggle with all the politics in the prequels, but I'm definitely looking forward to this reread.

    Awesome video Meg. I had no idea George wanted to focus on Kenobi early on. It makes total sense now looking at Ep.I in retrospect. There's barely any "Anakin". The true heroes of the story are clearly Kenobi and Quigon.

      In the 1980s he was still talking in interviews about the prequels as Obi-Wan's story rather than Anakin's, which makes his final vision of I-VI as "the story of Anakin/Vader" really interesting to me! I think, too, the decision to make Anakin so young contributed a lot to his lesser presence in Ep I.

    The Revenge of the Sith novel is almost more than a novelization, almost acting as an alternate version of the film in many respects.
    Attack of the Clones for me, is the novel that most improves upon the film it’s based on.
    Where I feel the film is very flawed and uneven for the first two thirds, but has a great final act
    The novel makes these sections the most interesting parts, elaborating on the mystery of the clone army, the corruption of the Jedi, and most importantly, the relationship between Padme and Anakin.
    Ironically, it’s the climax in the novel I feel that is the weakest part, turning into a Sparknotes summary of the final battle, instead of going in depth, or adding anything new.
    Still a very enjoyable novel that added so much to the story, and made me appreciate the movie even more.

    I read most, if not all, of the pre-Clone Wars prequel era novels, and novelizations, when I was in my early 20s, though the Phantom Menace novelization, Rogue Planet and the Attack of the Clones novelization are the ones I read as they came out. The New Jedi Order was also coming out at that time, AND I was still very much focused on buying, and reading, any of the Bantam era novels I hadn't read already, as well as the Original Trilogy era novels that I hadn't read yet. So the prequel era novels, and their tie-ins like Tatooine Ghost and Survivor's Quest weren't on my list until the late 2000s and early 2010s.

      For me, the NJO books were my biggest priority, but I think I still read most of the pre-2008 prequels novels at the time--whether I remember any of them is a completely different story! Other than the NJO paperbacks I bought, I mostly relied on my library system's collection for initial reads or rereads. :)

    • @tgif1345
      @tgif1345 2 года назад

      @@MegReviews Exactly! Especially because I couldn't afford to be buying twenty books at a time, or to go into the city every month to buy the new Star Wars novel. So I was relying on the library system, and whichever books I got as presents for my birthday and Christmas, as well as the two or three books I bought when I could go to the bookstore. So most of the books I got in paperback, but I got the hardcovers for The Phantom Menace, and Rogue Planet. I also feel like the junior readers books took most of the focus of that era with series like Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest, leaving very little for the adult novels to take on.

    Let us not downplay Marcia Lucas and her contributions. It is no understatement to say that without her, there would be no Star Wars as we know it.
    Also, curious to hear your thoughts on the D-Canon "Master and Apprentice" and "Padawan" novels. I know you have your plate full, but I so enjoy your reviews.
    Do you ever do non-Star Wars reviews?

    • @MegReviews
      @MegReviews  2 года назад

      Yes, Marcia was a pivotal part of Star Wars's success! I know she edited the Death Star assault--and it's such an amazing sequence as a result--and I wish I knew what specifically she worked on for ESB and RotJ. It's a pity that she didn't continue as a film editor after she and George divorced, because she was a talented editor.
      I read Master and Apprentice when it was released, and I'm interested in Padawan! Maybe I could hit them both as a double review. (I'm hoping that when I get the third Thrawn prequel from the library, maybe I can do a massive Thrawn review as well?) I haven't done any non-Star Wars video reviews yet, although I do have some written ones on Goodreads. I want to do some older sci-fi book reviews this year (I thought I'd start with authors like Zahn, who I was introduced to via Star Wars), although I haven't figured out a schedule yet...

      @@MegReviews The thing that kills me about D-Canon is they want their cake and want to eat it too. They want the stories, but not the continuity, or the fans. And as a guy that makes compulsive scale charts and obsesses over continuity, that is the stuff I love. And the Disney Story Group seems to play fast and loose with it. So Master and Apprentice, I *want* to love. But it would have taken nothing to make the Jedi Apprentice series canon again. Instead now it just kind of squint and fits. And that is... tiring.
      Marcia Lucas is so underrated. I wish more people knew about her.
      If you're going to read some of Zahn's stuff, I would highly recommend the Quad Rail series with Night Train to Rigel. There are 5 of them, and it is a cyberpunk thriller noir meets the Orient Express murder mystery. Some really great worldbuilding there.
      My second recommendation would be the 7 book YA series, The Dragonback (Chronicles?). It's about a boy and his living-dragon tattoo trying to stop an alien invasion.
      There are other excellent series (Cobra, Blackcollar, Manta's Gift) and other stand alone books (the absolutely phenomenal Manta's Gift) but Night Train to Rigel and Dragonback are easily the most accessible and marketable and moderately recent, which makes them easiest to find at your local library.
      You could also try Kathy Tyers' Firebird series. It's very much a "Christian Star Wars" kind of story, complete with force powers and lightsabers, but goes heavy on the romance and music. It got the short end of the stick when it came out, but I remember enjoying it.
      And of course, there's a little unknown fantasy novel called Spirit Sword. I think it'd be right up your alley. But I recommend that to everyone. ;)

      I remember some good stuff of her, George, and I think 2 other guys? Fixing some scenes like the DS assault, and doing some post on thr driving sequences that made it look way less artificial background wise.

      Take your time with the NJO--19 books is a lot! I want to try to get my sister on to talk about the Jedi Apprentice and Jedi Quest books...I read a few back then, but my sister has the complete collection of books and Many Thoughts. XD

    Do you normally not get books with legends banners because u don’t like the banner on books or is there another reason

    • @MegReviews
      @MegReviews  2 года назад

      It's 100% aesthetics! A lot of my SW books were acquired before 2014, so I like my bookshelves to match. I do have some books with the Legends banners, but they're in my overflow bins. (I have two overflow bins right now.)
