The bug looks like a type of 'burying beetle'. They're very cool when alive - they find a dead bird or rodent then measure it by running up and down the body. I was doing a bit of looking into Monolepta's and a lot of what I saw didn't seem to match. Monolepta's are also from Indomalaya, East Asia and Africa (Though they could potentially be brought in with imports obviously). My best guess would actually be a Firefly since after looking closely it looks like the light on the end of the tail was crushed which would have spilled the chemicals of the tail to cause the stain I was seeing. I am pretty sure the science is the demonstration of capillary action, which actually does count as science. Bonus science in the way the water reacted with the drawn on marker lines on the purple flower.
I don't think it counts as science learning if they don't tell why the color is moving up the fake flower stem. They also don't help kids understand the separation of the dyes as colors radiate out to the petal tips. It is just an activity if they don't explain color mixing either... A really slow activity.

The flower kit reminds me of the flower experiment where you split the ends and put each half into a differently colored water and then you have rainbow flowers because science is happening. Which is what was happening in this kit as well, the colours went 👆

So I think when it comes to the “STEAM” branding, it seems each letter is associated with a “subject” (Science, technology...etc) and when steam is written it seems a certain letter is highlighted or capitalized to show which subject the specific kit is associated to, in this kits case steAm, the A being for art. So I don’t believe it’s necessarily always science. 🤷🏼♀️

*creates art with capillary action* "where's the science?????"
I know canada is weird, but did you guys never do the thing with the celery or flowers and blue water?? Chromatography is a whole kind of scientific chemical analysis.
I'm thinking that they meant that the kit didn't really explain the science behind it. It just sort of said "hey do this and colorful stuff happens!".
If a kit is calling itself a Steam or Stem kit, then it needs to actually explain the stuff its supposed to be teaching.
@@pyjamaramasam Exactly, they should have at least mentioned, if not explained capillary action.
That's what I was coming here to say. Why label it STEM/STEAM and then leave out the Science bit?!
Never heard of chromatography or capillary action. Uk grain here. Been a while since I left school but I don't remember that at all
Canada is not weird, just different from you like every other country. Yours is not "normal", no such thing.

Oh Jackie I just love you and the joy I get from your videos!
I mean, it is washable paint so Jackie wasn't being clumsy. She's testing the washableness xD
The flower kit reminds me of the flower experiment where you split the ends and put each half into a differently colored water and then you have rainbow flowers because science is happening.
Which is what was happening in this kit as well, the colours went 👆

when i get to the sponsor part: HOW DO YOU SHIP CEARIEAL AND HOW DO YOU GET SPONSORD BY FOOD!
I'm not sure why you decided to stop having the glass shattering sound when you throw things over your head, but as a person with a sensory disorder I deeply appreciate being able to watch your videos without jumping every time. Thank you for making your videos more accessible
Not everything is about you dude, maybe she stopped because she was bored of editing it in
@@mischiefthedegenerateratto7464 They never said she did it for them especially, only that it's helpful ✨🤔 Sensory issues suck tbh

I'm gonna send this video to Crayola if I can find out how... They need to fix their stuff...
Edit: I went out and contacted Crayola to send them a link to this video stating that there's problems that needed to be fixed.... I hope they actually take the time to watch it and fix some products.
@@amarie849 Nope, never got a single thing back from them...

When I came here I didn’t know we’d be identifying a bug corpse. But here we are.
But! Is it a carrion beetle? a green leaf beetle? A firefly?? What shall we write on its headstone
I love you guys❤ i normally don't enjoy when RUclipsrs have guests on their videos but I actually really enjoy Sika, you guys are such cute sisters 🤗

: / I had scented Crayola crayons 25 years ago and they were amazing. Everybody was borrowing them. Dark green was an amazing pine, white was coconut, brown was chocolate, etc etc... I colored a monster multicolor because I wanted the scents to blend and make him stink.
What happened, Crayola?
The bug was more science than the kit itself 👁👄👁

So I think when it comes to the “STEAM” branding, it seems each letter is associated with a “subject” (Science, technology...etc) and when steam is written it seems a certain letter is highlighted or capitalized to show which subject the specific kit is associated to, in this kits case steAm, the A being for art. So I don’t believe it’s necessarily always science. 🤷🏼♀️
Yep, I think the same.
I think the A is just highlighted because Crayola added "ArT" to the traditionally taught STEM program of schools. They think they're being clever.
My school did stem but I live in Australia so things may vary
@@GenericFruitLoops actually steam was already a thing they taught in schools (or at least in mine). My little sister did Steam experiments in 3rd grade while in 6th grade I did stem experiments.
I think they *want* you to think that it’s science but if anyone asks they can say they meant it to be for the A in STEAM
