I really appreciate how you rightly made Kiryu look disturbed and on edge when he discovers the massacre. And he actually looks spooked when he hears Haruka's voice from behind the bar. Kiryu is too pure of heart for something like that to have no impact on him.

@ubergonk I agree when it comes to Kiryu seeing the dead bodies and such, because it wouldn't be his first rodeo when It comes to death at this point BUT him being spooked and seeing Haruka terrified should probably make Kiryu change his facial expression real quick, because no child should be near that situation.

I gotta say that you reanimating the facial expressions and some of the head movements is an instant improvement over the original. I always thought that characters looked a bit stiff during the cutscenes but I eventually got used to them but after seeing your spin on them I can say that this is a big step in the right direction. I absolutely LOVE how expressive everyone is now, it's like the enhanced version of the original PS2 cutscenes we should've had from the get-go. The little Date eye-roll and Kiryu's shock at the crime scene are just the icing on the cake man, excellent job! Feels like Mass Effect with how subtly exaggerated characters get. this is so awesome, it brings kiryu to life. subtle face expressions add so much to the experience, like Kiryu in the haruka scene, taking a proper look at the scene first looking proper concerned and then having a surprised expression when he heards a girl. its able to tell us the viewer what kiryu is thinking without taking away from his stoicism and i love that. the bar scene with date is also great, i really enjoy the characters not having such a stiff conversations.
reanimated versions makes the cutscenes actually look alive, so extremely nice work! do you plan to do this for every cutscene though? it seems like a lot of work with how many there are in kiwami
This is nice, although a bit of advice would be to try and retain more subtle expressions, so that the models aren't angry or emotionless all the time but also not too expressive to the point it's unrealistic. Looking forward to this awesome project!!
Now you mention it, Thinking back on it, the completely new Nishiki cutscenes do seem better handled than the pre-existing ones, lot more emotion in the animation. This looks great, it’s subtle enough to not break immersion, Kiryu isn’t the most expressive person but I noticed you played a lot with subtle brow movement on both he and Date. Date doesn’t emote as much either but he’s more expressive than Kiryu so the little details like the eye movement really help.

this is freaking awesome. this is why i like the ps2 and kenzan game(s) so much. because they show expressions. im not gonna knock the team for this, but once 4 came, they kind of stopped making kiryu expressive. now all he shows is anger. maybe its a character study (he just isnt happy, nothing surprises him anymore, etc) or the team just doesnt work on these kinds of emotions anymore, but that doesnt make much sense. long story short, what youre doing is great. keep up the good work.

This is actually not true, take it from the guy who also made a mod dedicated to the same goal, almost all of the animations here are all the same as the original and the ones that aren’t are usually new animations, but the converter they used also toned down the expressions because of how cartoony they would look on the new models, however, this has its consequences which I will probably fix soon.
