I was on the fence about seeing this movie in the theater. I ended up going, and I was blown away. The movie is not only Steven Spielberg's personal story, but also a story about choosing to follow your heart in the face of fear and self-doubt. I laughed and cried several times. 4 stars.
Steven Spielberg still makes film like it’s the golden age of Hollywood. Once he makes a film you can be sure it’s automatically a classic that will be watched 100 years from now. Nobody does it better than Steven Spielberg. He does not know how to make a bad film. This guy is an American master and an American Icon.🎬

They make an interesting double feature. Anyone who liked this movie should watch Cinema Paradiso. The director's cut is amazing. It's roughly an hour longer than the theatrical cut, but very worth it. The last time I watched it I literally bawled for the entire final hour of the film, it's so immensely moving.
Never knew Steven grew up in Phoenix. I’m from Tucson and this just gives me much more inspiration for the art that I have created over the past 10 years and to show the world everything hopefully someday (:
yesterday I was on a Sony studio tour, and in one of the sound stages, the tour lady shows us a couch and said it's the favorite place for Steven to take naps, I immediately felt it's amazing to be in the same place that Steeven was on, there is no doubt, Steven is one of the best directors of our time, and for many years to come
I'm glad I watched it at the theater and didn't wait to watch it at home. Because I feel I helped celebrating Steven's love for Cinema. It is not a self-celebrating biography but the externalization of the drama of human beings embracing their God-given talent within their own individual dimension and dramas. The drama of relationship with one's mother and the drama of being a beloved child who loves one's parents. The drama of being the one in the family who is entrusted with the task of bringing to the surface what in the family is tolerated and remains in the background. I have experienced much of this and each of us can find ourselves in the drama. I have cried many times while watching it but briefly, as I do in my ordinary life. The maternal uncle turns the film and is also the turning point in Steven's life. And I think we all turn when we realize that the pain remains and you can't chase it away. That is ultimately freeing.

My niece goes to his high school. Also wonder woman, Lynda Carter went there. He put huge donations for the theater center for that high school in Scottsdale. Yeah, the state has changed big time since then
This is a little like The Goldbergs. The mom was supportive of Adams movies and the dad just saw it as a hobby. I think a lot of families are like this. The dad wants the son to have a stable working career and the mom is the loving, nurturing, supportive parent at the young age.
If you listen to the podcast, “Inside Jaws”, it gives a very in depth view into Steven’s past and how it led him to direct other movies including Schindler’s List which was inspired by his great uncle who was a Holocaust survivor. Please listen if you get a chance.
Hello from the UK. I have been waiting for this film to come out for such a long time. I admire Steven Spielberg so much as a Film Maker, and for his love of FAMILY. I love the way he did not let the Academic Bullies in Education destroy his dreams. Bravo. When State Education failed to teach my daughter to read, write and spell, I used Kindness, ART and Music to make reading fun. I also used my Dyslexic Thinking to help her remember the words she could not read. I adore creative people. Quite honestly there are so many creative minds that struggle in school, we really need to tell the Academics that it is time they were team players and to liaise with people that have succeeded in life without their education. Art makes reading fun!
It’s released a few days after my birthday in 2023. It’s released in the uk on January 27th and my birthday is on January 23rd. I credit Steven Spielberg for being one of the many celebrity filmmakers who’ve made my dream as a screenwriter possible.
I bet Sorcese and Coppola are in there as well, incredible story tellers 👏 What advice would you give someone in high school wanting to follow in those footsteps?
I haven't seen The Fabelmans yet, but I guess it is one of the most personal movies Spielberg has ever made, which is almost a self-biography of himself. On the other hand, Steven has become a classic filmmaker whose movies like E.T. or Schindler's list never get old.
I loved the movie but I wanted more!! I have always loved your work and admired your talent!!! Can you possibly do a deuxième partie!! I was so engrossed in this film that when it ended, I didn’t want to leave the theater! Love you Steven!!!!!❤❤❤❤

No movie has ever talked to me like this one has. I absolutely get the feeling of not wanting to leave the theatre at the end. 3 hours felt like 30 minutes.
I thought the film was fantastic, it showed how much impact the young filmmaker had on other people all while dealing with his own personal problems and seeing what he thought of his parents crumble before his eyes and how much it affected his life and his work
This is seriusly one of the best movies I've ever seen and one of the things I liked the most about it was the video shown before the movie started where Steven thanks you for going to see the film
This movie is about American movie director Steven Spielberg. It concentrates mainly on his childhood and teenage years. There is no doubt that he is one of the greatest film makers of all time, just look at his filmography: Jaws, E.T., The Colour Purple, Jurassic Park, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan, Munich, Lincoln and several other very well made films. I just wish that this film 'The Fablemans' would have gone into more detail about how he made those films, that would have been very interesting. But showing his beginnings in a Jewish family that moved around the United States (NJ, to AZ, to CA) shed some light on the dysfunctionality of his family, his experiences with anti-semitism and the development of his ambition towards making short films with primitive cameras. Michelle Williams and Paul Dano have strong roles. Seth Rogan (who can't act worth beans) plays the role of Williams friend and eventual love interest. Judd Hirsch has been nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in this film. This is a joke considering he is in the film for amount five minutes, during which he does nothing Oscar worthy. But with Steven Spielberg directing this movie about himself, I guess anything is possible. Overall: disappointing, but better than the other garbage that was nominated in 2023 like: Elvis, Everything everywhere all at once, Causeway, All quiet on the western front, Banshees of Inisherin, Aftersun, Avatar . . . it has truly been the worst year in Academy Ward history.
Long live freedom of expression & cinema shows, wishing everybody never lose passion having fun performing and entertain us, big loving hug movie stars, fans love youuuuu guys
Along with his forever suspense masterpiece Jaws and maybe Lincoln (which is one of the great biopic screenplays of all time), this is in the top tier of Spielberg's movies. I find his contrived and saccharine wonder a little off-putting and unappealing generally, so I was shocked to see such a masterfully directed drama with some understated and human moments. What I do find interesting is the film is often talked about as if it represents a difficult childhood, but for me watching it was like a window into a fantasy where my parents were rich, accomplished, educated, and supportive and I was provided a good foundation to achieve whatever I wanted haha. You can kind of see where the childlike, optimistic wonder comes from if this was Spielberg's childhood, it looks so pleasant.
I was married to Alanna DiPasquale's Mother just after Lani died. You actually gave your condolences for her loss. It meant a great deal to her. She also passed away back in 2017.

I saw this last night and a lot has been made about the performance of michelle williams but for me its Paul Dano who steals the film, he is absolutely outstanding.
If Steven wins Best Director at the Oscars for this movie, he'll become the oldest person to win in that category at 76. The current record holder is Clint Eastwood, who was 74 when he won for Million Dollar Baby. Can Steven break Clint's record that he's held for 18 years? We'll have to wait and see.
No, Michelle Williams, not everybody wants to be like Spielbergs mom (1:16). Not everybody wants to leave their family when life becomes complicated. Not everybody wants to hop from one relationship to another. Yes, you can do that if you want to. That's your freedom of choice and I won't blame you for it. But can people who live this way please stop pretending that everybody should do the same to be happy? And can you also please stop pretending that you're sooooo brave and heroic for making those choices? There might be many cases where it is much more brave to stay with your family and work with your spouse on the problems you're having instead of just running away. Greetings from Germany :)
