Tried Murasaki sweet potatoes that I sprouted from ones I bought from the local Asian market. Purple skin and yellowish flesh. They did really well. We had pretty good success with in-ground beds this year. Almost no care other than watering during very hot and dry spells, and we have some rough clay soil. With further amending I think it will be better in future years. Loved that the vines could sprawl without getting in the way. Cure in a plastic tub on a heat mat, with a glass of water inside.
I tried sweet potatoes for the first time this year. I grew the slips I started from three "store boughts" that were forgotten about for several months and seemed rock hard. I used fabric pots (10 & 15 gallon). My harvest was decent. I canned 8 quarts chunked and kept a dozen large ones for baking. There would have been more, but the voles terrorized a few pots. I had several pots that grew potatoes that were very long and twisted, but relatively thin. They were only an inch plus in diameter. I'm going to try it again, but hope to learn more.
