Fun video, as always, Jirard! Give him a break over pronunciation, considering how often he puts out high quality content! P.S. Loved the use of the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack in the background :)
It was only during my second playthrough that I noticed 'Nashandra' was the same person as the Queen of Dranleic. I really like some aspects about this game, but man the story is so obscure and easy to completely miss while you're frustrated with the levels that lack proper checkpoints leading up to a boss. I also missed the DLC areas on my first run. When I encountered them during my second run (which was a lot less frustrating than the first one, yeez) I realised I was lucky not to try them when I played the game for the first time, because those were just a saltmine.
I just finished this game recently in my spare time. Was really entertaining. 2:15 The season better end with Tales of Symphonia. 6:11 A lady who looks like Palpatine. 14:56 That was the worst boss. Thank goodness it was optional. 22:52 Wait so the queen is her? I didn't even know that. I thought she was just a random final boss. 29:21 Was this after NG+7? I was around that level and time after my FIRST playthrough of the game.
I don't assume he played the game all the way up to ng +7. Those hours would never be enough. I'm quessing that was the time it took to collect all the achievements. I'm a souls veteran and not once have I actually played up to new game +7. That game just get's harder and after collecting quite literally every single armor piece and weapon there's pretty much nothing to do. I prefer to create new characters instead of using the same. Feels fresh and new ;)
Konsta Nurmi I get that approach. I never played very far into NG+ in either Dark Souls 1 or 2 but I'd probably just stick to the same character since I'd want to keep beefing up my stats.
+Kratos Aurion Plays For the 29:21 part if you're talking about the boss fight, it's actually in NG (all bosses are in NG), you can actually find that boss in a place called, "No Man's Wharf"
1.) Drang-lay-ihck 2.) The narrative is there. The narrative is everywhere, and it's very very deep. You just have to piece it together. It's not handed to you like every other video game
I’m saying ds2 has the best pvp. If you disagree I’m assuming you think it’s ds3 because in my opinion it is second best. I’m not talking about favorites. Ds2 has more build variance, poise is worth a damn and is overall more balanced than the other games. There is a fair case for ds3 in my eyes.
Target Demographic poise is terrible in dark souls 2, it was the best in dark souls 1, in my opinion the only worthwhile thing in ds2 is pvp and even that is awful, mainly because pvp will never work in a souls game let’s be honest. But hey if you think it’s the best game in the series that’s cool you can have your opinion.
I don't know why it's this one, but I think this is my favorite video of yours, if for no other reason than I've watched it the most and I can always sit back and watch it. I really love how you take on the game as a big challenge, but instead of espounging on the difficulty throughout the video, you seem to really enjoy the challenge Dark Souls II gives you. And I love how this video is a very wholesome, for the love of the game, I'm gonna talk about this and complete it to the end. I feel like I'm rambling, but I really like this vid.
There's getting all the flames on the Majula basement map to turn blue by beating the game several times. Illusory rings for the no death and no bonfire runs. Completion bonus is given in the form of NG+ mixing up some elements as well as increasing the difficulty. Sorry Jirard, but this episode feels a bit sloppy.
Um Jirard? There actually are completion bonuses: there are two rings that you unlock by beating the game without dying and without the use of bonfires. I know, they don't sound like fun, but getting those rings is part of the completion challenge.
+Arexion5293 Jirard is spreading misinformation about the souls games? That doesn't even surprise me. He lost a lot of credibilty for me after that deadlock video on dark souls.
+BlueTetri619 Well, he said the game had no sense of direction, that you needed the rusted iron ring and that the games fighting mechanics were very clunky. It's hard to kind of tell you all of it, you could better watch it.
I know its 5 years later, but the ending still made me tear up. You are so genuine in what you do. Truly an inspiration. I have over 240 games dow loaded onto my PS4 hard drive, and I've only Platinumed ONE game, Cat Quest. A very easy Platinum. But I'm going to do what you said. I'm going to grab my favorite game (Symphony of the Night) and Platinum that mother fucker TODAY. Thanks, Jirard, for being such a pure & wholesome icon in modern gaming. We all love you so much.
Your first Souls game is always the hardest. The rest translate well enough that once you learn the local dialect, you can usually get through. Praise the Sun! \[T]/
It's gotta be that he does it on purpose. Cause I mean seriously, he makes these videos AFTER he's completed the game. And it's not like characters in DS2 didn't say the name of the place like several dozen or more times. Wait... unless he always just button mashes and skips past all that spoken dialog and the cutscenes and all... infact that's gotta be it. He must do that to cut down on time when playing games. And then just read about it all online. So he's pronouncing it how he thinks it's said from reading it rather then hearing it said like tons of times by NPCs in the games. That would explain why he consistently miss pronounces names and places and things in games he plays all the time.
ermagerd Jirard says names wrong he must not have played the game. Don't try to ruin this special moment on this channel and Jirard (who's a great guy) with your internet paranoia, just chill and enjoy, and if you disagree with whatever, be constructive about it. Congrats on 145 games completed and 500k subs, Jirard, keep up the great work (also, yoshi's story)
The true completionist reward for completing the game is obtaining the ability to use every single item in the game in pvp at your disposal. You can cosplay as all the different bosses, try out every single combination as you can imagine and have fun reking in pvp.
Duke Wikoli I'm just saying you can't really quantify "being able to have fun with all the content in the game" as a completionist reward. It's a damn good reason to play the game but way too vague for a show about 100%'ing games.
when you said that the first sin guy was a secret boss i wanted to cry since he is literally the only one i haven't fought. thanks for giving me a reason to replay the game though
Nashandra is technically the final boss, and the most disappointing final boss I've ever play. All you have to do is hit her curses to make them disappear then whack her a bit.
Corvus Veis play demon souls final boss. True king allant was quite the let down for a final boss. I'll always consider False King Allant the true final boss. Great game though. 👍
An episode that humored a young 14 year old me as I watched this on my mom's Google account before I made my own Google account at 16 years old. I was just finishing up Devil May Cry 4 on Hell and Hell mode before picking up the updated version of Dark Souls II known as Dark Souls II: Scholars Of The First Sin for my Xbox 360 and it was brutal. It was my very first Dark Souls game and it took me 50 hours to just beat the story without completing it back in 2015.
It wasn't like that when Demon's Souls was first released. Ever since the release of Dark Souls (2011), the ever increasing popularity of "Lets Plays", Twitch, and people stroking their ego, the series has had those fans that gave the series a bad taste, but I still enjoy each game and some of the fanbase, like EpicNameBro and A German Spy.
+David Richard The reason why is because apparently the name is said like every five minutes in game. So yeah it's pretty difficult to say the name wrong unless you haven't played the game/watched gameplay footage. Kinda hurts his credibility.
+David Lussier and he mispronounced a bunch of other stuff, didn't even mention the optional boss darklurker. didn't actually complete the game anyway since he didn't get the rings for no bonfire and no death play through didn't mention vendricks crown that prevents hollowing which is literally a completion bonus. the main problem was the lies in the dark souls 1 deadlock video.
The best part about replaying games like this is with the amount of variety in weapons and armor, you can basically have a completely different run each time. Maybe you start out with a greatsword run, next time you can focus on using a crossbow and mace combo, or any number of things. With Dark souls' combat mechanics, different weapons take different skills to use properly, leading to very different strategies and gameplay. Heck, I've seen people do runs of the game using only Shields! That shows how much variety you can find to keep the game interesting and engaging.
The comment section of this video kinda makes me disappointed in the people who keep reminding him about those 2 damn rings. 2 things: he's probably gotten more done in Dark Souls 2 than YOU ever have, and he literally didn't even know about the rings until after the fact. So stop harassing guy on the daily. Treat him with the respect he deserves.
I remember back when people argued over Zelda pronunciations. Then, when asked about it, Miyamoto said it's up to the player, & that its FANTASY & NOT REAL, so there isnt a "wrong way" to pronounce ANYTHING in a video game. Miyamoto really is the gaming Messiah. What a guy.
I love From Software´s games but this already looks like a PS1 title while Bloodborne is still gorgeous. Gamers are still spoiled by graphics leaps, can´t wait for the Demon´s Souls remake, i hope it´ll be worth the wait.
He mispronounces a lot of other stuff either on purpose or its his comfortable way of saying stuff. Weirder accents and mispronunciation shave happened to me and others in improv / drama club
+Soy Jizz Considering every single NPC and cut scene says "Drang-Lake". Then yes, he's Jirard is either in denial or he didn't play it and just read what he needed to say to make dolla dolla. Though sometimes it looks like he's putting emphasis on how he's saying it to piss people off on purpose. DURANGULEEK.
I just want to point out the one thing I think they messed up with Scholar of the First Sin, and that is movement. If you move your character around via joystick without altering the camera, you will notice that they switched to directional "lockpoints" instead of free movement. That means as you rotate the joy stick you want see your character turn until it hits a certain degree and it will turn to that point, it can ruin some of your dodge rolls by having you go the wrong direction.
I think DS2 lacks the originality of the first. Less lore and just so many bosses because moore is better right? I don't know. Many areas felt unfinished and just having 32 bosses doesn't make a game great..

"I find it funny how Jirard is able to pronounce the directors name correctly"
B-b-but he didn`t! He could`ve done way WAAAY worse on it, yeah, but he still did it incorrectly. Pronouncing Japanese seems to be quite the task to native English speakers.
19:49 I guess you missed the "Name-Engraved Ring". It can be bought from Sweet Shalquoir aka the cat in Majula. Fixes this issue completely...
I usually drop a comment whenever there's a video with great references, so nicely done with the Dark Souls/Groundhog Day comparison, that had me cracking up! (And likewise for the Monty Python nod, I love that people still bring them up even after all these years)
DrangLAYick. Also why did you pass up the opportunity to wear Dragonrider armour?
osriccauldwyn The pronunciation was bugging me as well

When I roll in Dark Souls, in my head i just keep thinking this "Keep on rolling, rolling, rolling! What?! Keep on rolling, rolling, rolling!"
2022 says this game didn't age well. Absolutely amazing review though. Glad I found ya a few years ago
Completion bonuses do exist.
Beat the game and DLCs and enter Vendrick's Memory: while you're wearing a Crown you no longer become Hollow when you die. You resurrect into a human. The undead curse is now a blessing as you are still immortal but can never go hollow. This ability is removed when entering New Game+ so it's only real use is for pvp!
Beat the game without dying: Illusory Ring of the Conquerer
Beat the game without using a Bonfire: Illusory Ring of the Exalted
Best DS2 review i've seen so far, congratulations Jirard for all you've accomplished!
At the exact moment you said this is dark souls, i died and got the trophy "This Is Dark Souls" .

Jerard, I just want to say congratulations for all of the accomplishments you've achieved and how addictive your channel has been! I love your content and your style, and I hope the Souls community hasn't been too harsh with your content.
As a longtime Sunbro and simply a fellow of mild temperament, I LOVE this , and I think you're a fantastic artist and well-driven individual. Thanks, brother!
Fun video, as always, Jirard! Give him a break over pronunciation, considering how often he puts out high quality content! P.S. Loved the use of the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack in the background :)
Happy 4 years, beardman!
You don't realize how much you learn from the souls games until someone points it out
It was only during my second playthrough that I noticed 'Nashandra' was the same person as the Queen of Dranleic.
I didn’t even know the Queen and that boss were related until watching this video! 😂
I never played very far into NG+ in either Dark Souls 1 or 2 but I'd probably just stick to the same character since I'd want to keep beefing up my stats.
tales of symphonia is kind of average tho
+Kratos Aurion Plays For the 29:21 part if you're talking about the boss fight, it's actually in NG (all bosses are in NG), you can actually find that boss in a place called, "No Man's Wharf"
+no1 babydaddy yeah I played it on GameCube back in the days
1.) Drang-lay-ihck
2.) The narrative is there. The narrative is everywhere, and it's very very deep. You just have to piece it together. It's not handed to you like every other video game
Criminally underrated. Best PvP of any souls game.
Target Demographic I’m gonna have to disagree
Ds3?
Target Demographic Are you asking if DS3s PvP is my favorite or if I think it’s better than DS2s?
In Dark Souls 3 there are the Drang Hammers. So why not a Drang Leek.
29:31 Classic Dark Souls 2 hitboxes
Dark Souls, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Galaxy, etc, etc. You've got good tastes in games, friend.
At least he didn't say MAHOOLA
+utcgangstaa Crap dude, he's not perfect and can't remember every single detail. Cut him some slack.
BlueTetri619 If you've seen the deadlock video you'll know what I'm talking about, he wasn't just misremembering things.
utcgangstaa I actually didn't see it. If you could explain....?
Now, stop being a wuss and 100% that one Yu-Gi-Oh game that takes over a decade to 100%. Lol
Your first Souls game is always the hardest. The rest translate well enough that once you learn the local dialect, you can usually get through.

THERE IS A COMPLETION BONUS, YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE GAME WITHOUT DYING OR LIGHTING BONFIRES TO GET 2 SPECIAL RINGS
+DaCanary *looks it up*
Oh dear god you're right.
+DaCanary Do you use one of them to rule them all?
+thescaredshadow No they just turn your left and right hand weapons invisible lol
+thescaredshadow If you can get them, you already do.
+DaCanary that is not a "completion bonus"
Just watch the opening cutscene! They say the name of the place right there.
"Drang-leek"
Ikr it's pronounced "Drang-Lake"
It's not like the lady in the intro said it with emphasis or anything.
Monty the Desert Rat "in purpose"
dank leak
ermagerd Jirard says names wrong he must not have played the game.
Lol 5 years later and it still makes me laugh "Drang leek"
The true completionist reward for completing the game is obtaining the ability to use every single item in the game in pvp at your disposal. You can cosplay as all the different bosses, try out every single combination as you can imagine and have fun reking in pvp.
+Redkryypt Yeah but you don't get achievements for that
*facepalm*
+Muncle This is what metagaming does. This.
Duke Wikoli I'm just saying you can't really quantify "being able to have fun with all the content in the game" as a completionist reward. It's a damn good reason to play the game but way too vague for a show about 100%'ing games.
Thank you for clarifying.
“Dark souls isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.” *Seinfeld theme plays*
Lol
when you said that the first sin guy was a secret boss i wanted to cry since he is literally the only one i haven't fought. thanks for giving me a reason to replay the game though

Nice seeing you here gilly!!
But.... but.. that's not the final boss.
McFly How high are you?
Around 6.2 feet. Why? Wanna date?
McFly Good comeback!
“Drainlick” is the best pronunciation
Dear Completionist
I challenge you to complete Fire Emblem Awakening
DranGleeek, really? You need to pay more attention when NPC's are talking to you. It's dran-glay-ic.
bothered me too. small things like that kill the video for me
An episode that humored a young 14 year old me as I watched this on my mom's Google account before I made my own Google account at 16 years old.
Seems Dark Souls fans are almost worse than the actual game...
+Fliebenhiemür Jones (Jimmy Williams) They seem like whiny bitches. "JIRARD YOU PRONOUNCED THIS NON-EXISTENT FICTIONAL NAME WRONG, WAAAAHH YOU SUCK"
Shots fired.
What's with The Last of Us music at around 9:00? lol
it's good music
that's what's up with it
I was wondering if someone else would notice.
Yo you're 4 years late man

+Luka Parker Me too. That aside, top notch video.
Darn mimics pretending to be treasure chests. I can't open a treasure chest in any game without thinking about it being a mimic now. Thanks DnD. O_O
What a guy.

Wow dude, ive never seen this much praise of dark souls 2 in one video before
Do F-Zero GX next.
I swear i was hearing last of us music in the bg
I'd argue it has even more lore actually
Im sorry but Drang Leek?
