Title: Can Telecommuting Reduce our Travel Footprint? The Impact of Telecommuting: An Analysis of Telecommuting Travel Behavior in the USA
Abstract: This presentation offers an analysis of the travel behavior of different telecommuter classes in the United States -- at the national, urban, and rural levels. We'll explore how these classes vary in their travel behavior, including their trip rates, trip purposes, transportation modes, travel distances and durations, and diurnal distributions. We'll also look at the social and economic backgrounds of these telecommuter classes. Finally, the presentation will unveil descriptive models that illustrate the influence of telecommuting on national vehicle miles traveled (VMT). Culminating with key insights from the analyses, we'll wrap up by identifying areas for future research.
