Your observations about the stradivarius is true. Instruments like that were designed to be the best. Go look at the original 1958-1960 Gibson catalogues.(They are on-line) There was nothing special noted about the Les Paul. It was not even the top of the line offered by Gibson. In other words, it was just another electric guitar that was being made at the time. Gibson didn't design it to be "the best guitar in the world" and never made that claim about that guitar in their catalogue. To top it off, it sold so badly that they did away with it in 1961. People didn't want it when it was new. If people want to believe that the 1958-1960 burst Les Pauls are the greatest guitars ever made and want to spend a million dollars on them, great. Go for it. What some of us object to is these people's insistance that we share their delusion about these instruments. You know, "Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess..." Remember, it's not the wand, its the wizard.

I have never understood the logic that guitars made today are somehow inferior to guitars made in the 50s and 60s. That just doesn't make sense. Guitars made today are amazing. Even Paul Reed Smith says the guitars he (his company) makes today are the best they've ever been.
Likewise, I fully agree that we can ascribe an immeasurable, even unreasonable, "magic" to the guitars that started it all; those first guitars that finally nailed the recipe. They're like happy little accidents that turned out wonderfully, and that's why we revere them.

The only reason people gush about vintage gear is that so much of it was hot garbage. So, when a good/half decent piece shows up, people insane saying “look! this is crazy good” when in fact it’s just ok. Todays’ gear is soooo much better than the crap made back then.

Lets get down to brass tacks because I think you forgot to mention some stuff, voyxo is not trolling because he was making videos about the bursts for weeks before Bukovac got involved. One came on my feed and I listened while taking care of my horses, didn’t think much of it. He never mentioned Tom. Then Tom started talking about him and made it personal by insulting his playing and where he played gigs, like a damn high schooler. Some like me were saying that’s not cool, why get into all of that stuff. Voyxo’s subsequent videos seem to be a response to all that and a bit of trolling but Tom opened that can of worms imo. And to say he’s a troll or stalker when Tom has commented on all this guy’s channels and videos and doxed him and he comments on literally every other channels’ videos that mentions him is strange.

Always blown away, when I see somebody that credentialed, with a long standing, unbelievable career, a family, etc. just go hard in the paint, getting into petty arguments and living in the comments section. Punching down, is never a good look imo.

The thesis is basically correct, the "myth" around these guitars is essentially bs. The prices they reach are largely built on the back of that myth, the utility value is off, the investment value is overinflated as many of them have absolutely no connection to a famous player which is where the real money is.
Strad violins are much the same. Maybe even worse given the context around the music played on them, the venues they are used in and the miriad other changes since their production. Which also apply to a les paul from 1950 whatever.
Not worth it in utility or as a risky investment.
Oh, jeff absolutely does care if he's being ripped off, see his recent propery purchase shenanigans where he stiffed a guy for a million bucks or something even though he is one of the wealthiest people on earth. You remember that simpsons bit about bill gates buying homers company "you don't think I got rich writing cheques?" The best comedy comes from a place of fundimental truth 😅

  • @mr8ty8
    @mr8ty8 13 часов назад +2

    Woods are just woods.
Grain and type of wood does a ton on acoustics their tone and resonance.
    Not so much on electric.
Mahogany is selected a lot because of the woods density and weight ratio.
Because it's dense it won't shrink. It can expand but it won't shrink. Which solves one side of a instruments issues.
Plywood would do just fine too.
But pressed plywood is quite heavy.
On electric what really matters for tone are 2 folds.
Electronics and the density/hardness of the fretboard.
You can make an excellent instrument from shipping pallets. Depending if your electric and fretboard is good.

Yes - he's trolling - and it's hilarious. That being said - I too am tired of the ridiculous amount of hype around those guitars. Guitar players are some of the biggest followers and ass-kissers you'll ever meet - and the 59 Burst is the pinaccle of hype. No guitar is worth $650K unless you've got more money than good sense. Many of the people hyping it up have hearing damage from decades of loud music that they are unaware of becasue they've never been tested and are not good judges of sound quailty - but don't you dare tell them that.

Demand vs supply. There’s millions of guitarists and there’s max 1,800 vintage bursts. And a lot of them have been owned by famous players and used on famous songs. Those ones have understandable value to collectors and because of the rarity, it pushes up the value of the rest of them. Nobody really believes they sound 300x better than regular Les Paul. Most things people hear can be found in most humbucker equipped guitars with the judicious use of ears. Pickups too hot? Turn the volume down. Not enough mids? Turn the mids up on the amp. Doesn’t have the sparkly highs? Turn your treble up.

Damn, I have to say I was pretty excited to see someone finally say the 59 is basically overrated. Vouch does have a point, he’s saying it can’t possibly be the best guitar and no guitar on the planet, with modern techniques can’t be better. He’s also saying people are basically lying saying the 59 just simply sounds better than anything else ever produced. I couldn’t agree more with the guy. It’s how people are packaging the 59 as this Mount Everest of guitars . To me they’re a rare guitar, not many were made and cool they’re old and collectable. I think in Voyxu’s defence, he’s saying people are lying about this 59 sound just to bolster their 59 investments. I don’t see how that’s not true. I don’t think he’s trolling, I think honestly it’s fair what he’s saying. The way he’s going about it though, yeah it’s a little childish. But Tom’s responses are also extremely childish.
