Thanks very much - the S65 is beautiful that's what i'd love to get in the garage one day too. The S65 has a different cooling system setup but its relatively similar overall so glad this helped :)
Man this channel so underrated! Unlike BMWs, finding Mercedes related enthusiast videos are rare, W221 S600/S65 related are even more rarer! A clean cut video, clear and well spoken voiceover about a W221 V12 sheeshhh
Wow I appreciate that feedback - thank you - I feel the videos are pretty rough but glad you like them. I had another subscribers newer facelift 221 S600 in the garage to if you want to checkout those videos. Thanks very much.
I am almost 100% sure that your coolant leak is coming from inside the air intake duct on drivers side at the top of the radiator. Remove the duct and look inside... there will be a very think crack that widens as the coolant heats up. This causes the coolant leak.
Haha 'oh boy' - that'd be an honor to be Tasos number 2. He's definitely the most legendary Mercedes repair tech / expert I have ever watched :) I'm sure he's most of our idols!
Matty can I ask how many hours it took to only drop the engine out ? Plus how did you know the oil was leaking into the valley. And finally, do you have 8 pots on the front or not, they looked a little small?
As my first time, i'd say all up everything was about 8 hours. If I did it again now i'd say 5 hours easily I think. The fronts are 6 piston, same as basically the W204 C63, where as the older E55 has 8 pot. The S63 AMG had the bigger 8 pot brakes.
I have a cheap scoping camera, and I managed to get enough of a view to see it was pretty dirty. But I was still tbh not really sure if it was the issue, but now after dropping it i can see how dirty it is.
@@thatmatty231guy I had a feeling you'd say that. I was quoted (by a Merc specialist) 12 to 15 hours, which seemed a little ridiculous. Keep them coming Matt, great videos!
@@rtg0616 hmm that seems a bit extreme especially from a professional. I’m just working on Part 3 now so I’ll try push it this week coming for you :) cheers
I think there would be - at least in the 221. The firewall is the only threat, so if you remove the hood and the main engine fans, that’d give you enough room to lift, pull forward and pull the engine from the top. But definitely need the hood off
@@LTG1930 ahh bugger sl600 I imagine is a lot tighter :/ if you can support / lift engine from top just enough to wiggle them out - and drop the exhaust too obviously?

No worries Matty, Those aren't oil leaks. They are tears of joy the S600 is crying, because she is so happy you are taking good care of her. 🙂
Haha thats a new one - tears of joy. Its a shame they're so oily 😂
W221 s65 owner here & ‘ thank you a ton for the vid , keep them coming

Thanks, yeap i've got part 2 filmed - as of today basically i've got everything apart to hoping to get back onto the reassembly process :)

Has anyone tried taking the M275 out of the top vs dropping it, seem like there might be enough room.
