I have to say it was one of John’s earlier distributor videos that made me realize that for many years I had the electronic pickup on my 45D off by 45 deg which made it idle really poorly. The rotor was too far from the contacts to reliably spark until at higher revs it advanced. That’s the phasing he mentions around 25:30
my part number appears to be a 41491 made in 02 74. is this where I look to see if it is a '4897'? i.e. do I need to look elsewhere or if I have a 4897 is this where it would be marked?

The coil actually induces the high voltage in the secondary winding through ”mutual inductance.”
