Hey Seamus--just checking your shit out. I really think you have the hippest harmoniic concept happening comparec to any of us "sub 50" tenor guys. Continue to inspire and play your ass off!! Eric Alexander
I've been living in Brasil for quite a while from Boston but have a buddy who studied at berklee with this cat and why hasn't he got wider recognition...one of my favorites....luv his dynamics, tecniques and soul!!!
I have a friend who lives in Guaruja between Sao Paulo and Rio. He had a band in Chicago, Maluko Samba. Is now retired. Would you like to get in contact with him? He misses talking with musicians and music lovers.
I just played with Seamus yesterday, and I can't say enough positive things about this cat's playing, there must be sumthin in the water in Canada....I love this, his playing is emotional and full of command. All the stars you have, I'm going to be listening to Mr. Blake as often as I can.
@derio1216 agreed. potter is just ahead of everyone technically. whether you dig is down to taste. but idon't think it can really be argued that anyone is as advanced as him.
clix089: Each one can teach each one a little thing or two from each one. And so can: Shawn Wallace, Al McClean, Donny McCouchin (sp.), James Carter, Anibal Rojas, Sir Valor sax... too many more - sung and unsung - to list. Keep an eye on Shawn "Thunder" Wallace; won't you?
@saxophile1 i was just making a comment on how great i think his sound is.. obviously the acoustics of the hall effect the sound in this video, but he has a fat, beautiful sound regardless of the venue he plays in.. and i dont think a great deal of people could sound like seamus blake if playing solo in a concert hall.. lol
Jesus..Sonny Rollins is still alive....and so is anyone whose records still get played. All this polemic about whose the greatest now, who's the current badass,etc..unnecessary and cloying.
You know, we could sit here for days and argue who is the better player, but that's just a complete waste of everyones time. People, just enjoy the freaking music.
@saxophile1 What makes a sound soulful? I don't think you know what you are talking about. Experienced listeners definitely know this isn't Chris Potter as well...
they are awesome in their own ways, music is relative, for example i think chris potter is the best saxophonist still alive today but im sure many ppl would disagree.
I disagree strongly....Redman and Blake both have their individual improvisational perks; difficult to tell which is truly better. However, nobody will ever match Potter....he is the current John Coltrane of our time, if you will. The Coltrane torch was handed to Potter after the passing of Brecker.
Once a certain level of musicianship is reached “better than”. Is juvenile. The playing resonates with you or it doesn’t. Art is not a contest. Kenny G holds the Guinness record for holding a note. Need I say more.
Love the ending, especially.

oh man the depth of his sound even on the first note... incredible.
I was there for this and the whole clinic he played solo stuff like. Talked some but this was it. Great stuff.
Enorme! Quelle prise de risque! Quelle réussite . Un son puissant et profond. Seamus raconte de très jolies choses.....Quelle technique....!!!!
Love that sound... The ideas... Wow.. Thanks for sharing this...
"Body and Soul" is right. Through the Body and deep, deep into the Soul.

nice
Maybe not Potter, but you'd be surprised at the number of saxophonists who could teach Redman a thing or two.

This type of music”contest” discussion is so juvenile . Lets practice.
Seamus is my favorite tenor player alive under 50 yrs old. Ted Nash on tenor is bad too!!!
wowowowowowowowowowow
Coleman Hawkins! That's all I gotta say!
nothing like coleman hawkins

I just spent 30 minutes looking for the quote. I knew it was a monk tune
so bad!!! Love Seamus' sound, harmonic thinking... the contour of his lines & thematic development.. just totally tasty!!
🙄🌱🌾💛

if chris potter has the coltrane torch then this guy has the rollins torch

My neighbour's son is definitly much better, he plays the sax with only one hand while making a handstand with the other
How long can he hold the handstand?
He needs to quit his rock band.
Great!!
Great!
