Luffy saying that he can't be King of the Pirates without Sanji is so HUGE because for the entire series, even pretime-skip, Sanji has thought of himself as expendable and his desires to not be as important. I like that he never wrote that line. This line is so obvious, Luffy could've said it to Nami, to Robin (without Robin he definitely can't become King of the Pirates, because he can't read poneglyphs)... But Oda has kept this line in the store, knowing that it WILL be impactful sometime in the future.

A lot of people don't realise that this is the only time Nami refers to Sanji as Sanji instead of Sanji-kun. She calls other boys by their name only but she always calls Sanji, Sanji-kun.
The thing that's always so interesting to me here is that this is the first time Luffy acknowledged something that would stop him from being King of the Pirates, and it was the potential loss of a friend. And it wasn't even for his own sake, he was more worried about his friend knowing that he wouldn't be able to live as a Vinsmoke.
This is probably the biggest difference between Luffy and Blackbeard. The story sets them up as very similar "free spirits" but ultimately Blackbeard would do anything to be Pirate King, even kill a crew member. But Luffy would give up his dream in a heart beat to save a friend
"Without you, I can't become the King of the Pirates." I mean how does Oda come up with this stuff. Tying everything back to when Luffy was listing all the things he can't do at Arlong Park. I have no words for how genius Oda is. It's just the best series ever
It goes even further than that. Luffy knows Sanji doesn't think he's worth the trouble. He knows Sanji doesn't think himself necessary. So Luffy saying I can't become Pirate King without you flips that mentality on its head. Sanji fully believes Luffy will become PK, so for Luffy to say, with certainty, that he can't do it without Sanji, forces Sanji to face his own self worth issues. He needs Sanji, not "some other cook" or "another strong fighter," he specifically NEEDS Sanji simply because he's who he is.
The reason why there are more than one eyecatcher for these two episodes was cause they aired at the same day as a one hour special, iirc… They had to stretch it for the whole hour…
This will always be second place for me that gets this reaction. I don't think until the end of the series that anything will top Robin's "I want to live"

Interesting that you mentioned that Sanji's dream is intangible, I read sometime ago about a theory that says that Sanji and Zoro represent types or kinds of dreams, Zoro represents a grounded dream and Sanji's a "fantastic" dream, this justified under theidea that all crews have a theme the straw hats theme would be dreams (and other good stuff that you don't need to worry about just yet)
Lots of tragic, tear-jerking moments in this last episode. Everything between Luffy and Sanji, of course, but Nami marching up to Sanji, slapping him, and coldly telling him good-bye and that they never should have done all of this for him... That hurt. A lot.
To clear this up about those eyecatchers showing up lately, It was 1 hour special when it's first aired before it split to Ep 807 and 808. Ep 807 and 808 are the only episodes to have more than 2 eyecatchers. Each have 6. It show Sanji's flashback from Zeff saving Sanji to whole Don Krieg Arc where Sanji said his farewell to Zeff and then Sanji vs Luffy happen. Not only that, this is where Namie Amuro, the famous Japanese singer, sing her 2nd song as One Piece OP. The first was Fight Together after Marineford Arc and Flashback to SAL Arc. The second is called Hope.
I think this hits harder than the time in Water Seven because of how much more they've been through since even then. Luffy and Sanji have been tight for over 700 chapters when this happened. All of that history, all of those memories, the bonds we made with both of them throughout this journey reached a really low point. This is an incredible advantage to One Piece being so long. These connections feel much deeper with more time and things happening. This was also the first time I "sad cried" reading or watching One Piece. I've shed many happy tears but this was brutal. Luffy's "I can't be the pirate king" line still gets me sometimes lol Mayumi Tanaka absolutely CRUSHED it with her vocal performance as Luffy here.
I think Sanji and Luffy also relate to one another in a unique way. Sanji later goes on to call Luffy his best friend, and it makes sense when you realize they both had absent fathers, had a person they looked up to sacrifice a limb for their survival, and believe in a dream that most consider to be impossible to attain. Hell, they even both aspire to be free. Sanji from his past and Luffy in general. They might have the most in common among the crew.

The work in Luffy's seiyuu, Mayumi Tanaka, is tremendous in this episode, the "Without you, I can't become the king of the pirates", breaking me down every time
What I really love about Luffy and Sanji's duel is how much is shows Luffys growth as a captain. Back during his duel with Usopp, Luffy had to stand his ground. But arguing with Usopp and beating him down only made the situation worse. Here Luffy still holds his ground but can tell this is not who Sanji really is. Sanji lied in his note about coming back and he's playing this arrogant royalty act to get Luffy to leave. But Luffy has only been saying what he really feels. He wants Sanji to meet him on that same level. Until he does, Luffy will not fight Sanji and make the situation worse. Even being aware that Sanji is in more pain right now is pure Luffy. And the way he handled this duel really shows how much he has grown. Pre-timeskip Luffy could not have done what Luffy did with Sanji
The callbacks to Water 7 and Enies Lobby in this arc is crazy. Sanji going after Robin alone. Sanji's "Everyone has things they can and cannot do" speech to Usopp. When this chapter/episode dropped, we as readers/watchers realized that Sanji's kindness to Usopp is coming from a place of empathy, because Sanji knows how it feels to be the weak-link. People who keeps on saying that Oda hates Sanji can go pound sand.
Brook is the only straw hat that has never gone against Luffy (of their own will, misunderstanding or forced). Nami- went to Arlong Zoro- misunderstanding Ussop- Water 7 Sanji- here Vivi- their argument Chopper- when Foxy took him Robin- Water 7 Franky- Water 7 Jinbe - Fishman Island when he didn’t want Luffy’s help. To be fair, Franky’s was before he was a crew mate & Chopper technically didn’t act against Luffy to my memory.
As far as I recall the misunderstanding was because of Luffy, Zoro simply defended himself and only got more riled up when Luffy threatened to kick him off the crew because he thought Zoro killed the “nice” people hosting them. Zoro himself states to never go against the captain, and he never has went against Luffy on his own accord
yes exactly, it's like robin and usopp. sanji tried to save luffy and his friends by chasing them away but many fans don't understand that and started hating sanji by saying, "if only zoro went to whole cake island" etc
If I remember correctly Jack, the first time you cried in One Piece was at Sanji's farewell to Zeff. When Oda gives Sanji an emotional moment he really goes for it. (Though I could say that for every emotional moment.) One Piece is the only story I have cried this much over, and the only story I cry every time I see one of these scenes or read them, no matter how many times I've read and watched it. Truly a masterpiece of emotional moments. Thanks for sharing this journey with us, and letting yourself react emotionally. We're all right there crying too!
Definitely one of the sections of One Piece that hit me so dam hard. Everyone's actions are so out of character just like the heavy parts of Water 7 but when all the details are revealed it makes complete sense and thus more pain😭.
8:00 - "Wit Piece" as i call it, is not a Remaster, but a full-on Remake, no Filler, no Censorship and NO Toei Pacing. Wit Studio wants to keep to the story but they want to present things like new angles and more depth to everything, fully flesh out Oda's world of Pirates, basically.
The fact you said, "what a beautiful episode " is why you're my fav reactor. So many misunderstood these episodes but not you. just peak fiction and peak reaction.
So @JackTheBus Reacts, Japan was hostimg the Olympics when this came out, and somhow that interfered with their eyecatchers and commercials for just these 2 episodes.
Long ass rant of someone who's pretty dumb but has always had a personal connection to Sanji's character that only proved to be way on point in this arc: Sanji was always... there. I honestly hated the pervy joke since his introduction but I'm a sucker for characters who fight unarmed and along the story, while he remained my least favorite for a long while, there was something weird that I felt with him. We've seen time and time again through actions and dialogue how he prioritizes Nami and Robin, often saying something along the lines of 'screw the guys.' and yet it's a pretty see through act. Sanji throws Nami at Luffy in Drum island. You can perfectly argue he just thought Nami would be safer with him but I also think it's simpler than that. He wanted to help Nami and Luffy. He gets zapped in Usopp's place and later on helps him with his identity and self steem issues in water 7 (Pin on this for later) and offers his life to Kuma in Zoro's place. All a show of his kind a noble nature but, as someone who went through some self steem issues, I kinda saw it as someone who values everyone else above himself. Then comes THIS arc to confirm what I thought was just me seeing something where there wasn't anything. Sanji comes out and outright says 'We are in too much danger that can easily be solved by me going back to that hell.' Because he, in his eyes, is expendable. He isn't worth it. I love Luffy's emotional intelligence in this scene and there's something that often goes past some. Luffy immediately assured Sanji's place through Sanji's cooking. To Sanji, a cook isn't necessary. They might love to eat good food but he himself knows how much you can endure with basic and even moldy food. In Ennies Lobby, Usopp's sniping was clutch in saving Robin, Sanji knew his worth even if Usopp didn't see it. You can't replace Usopp with a shitty sniper but you can certainly replace him with a shitty cook, at least in his mind. And in the same way, Luffy is trying to make him understand how valuable and important he is even when he himself can't see it.
I love how brutal that beatdown was, cause it's all the more meaningful when Luffy says that despite his attacks, Sanji's the one getting hurt. The entire 'fight' is a physical representation of the pain he's going through cutting ties with his crew, his real family.
The multiple eye catchers and no to be continued thing is because this was aired as a special double episode and I think japanese TV aired something in between the episode parts.
Jack, when these episodes released they were a 1 hr special. Thats why there was no "to be continued" after the first episode and probably why there were so many eye catchers.
The episode we all were waiting for. This episode broke me like anything. There was pain on my throat that day because of holding all these emotions.I literally couldn't get over it for days. Sanji was in so much pain and him hitting Luffy caused him more pain. But only Luffy could handle this, even Nami gave up on Sanji. But Luffy didn't, he knew Sanji too well to fall for this pathetic charade. Increased my live for Sanji and respect for Luffy. Hang in there Jack, this is why we love One Piece.💓💓💓
Btw the reason this episode feels so weirdly structured with 3 eye catchers, is because it was a special, it aired together with episode 110 of dragon ball super, it was pretty hype at the time.

Nami slapping Sanji, and Luffy screaming “Without you, I cannot become the King of the Pirates!” Oof 😭
Bro, the first ending song ALWAY ALWAYS HITS. Its the best
i knew this day would come😞 fuckkk this entire arc destroyed me on first watch i feel you man🫶
"No matter how many times you kick me, you're the one that gets hurt."
The opening song in cake island arc is one of the best song for me.
Same
Welcome to Whole Cake Island, also known as Sanji Pain Arc. My favorite!🤗
Sanji didn't stop Yonji because Luffy would lose, he stopped Yonji cus he knew Luffy would win.
'no matter how many times you kick me, You're the one getting hurt' is my favourite line
i still cry at everything like i've watched it the first time
I was tearing up watching this again. One of the best moments in the show, but man is it so freaking heartbreaking...
One Piece will never fail to make me bust out laughing and make me cry even harder
Luffy grew so much after fight with ussop. He now understands how sanji was feeling and what he needed to hear.
I don't know if you've gotten there on patreon, but gawd damn the moment they meet up again just hits yuh right in the feels.
Should have called this ep "TOEI'S EYECATCHERS DESTROYED ME... (one piece reaction)"
I know Jack is already in wano but it’s so crazy how he’s sick of being hurt now and it just gets way more painful 😂
I'm pretty sure these episodes came out as an hour special hence why there is more eyecatchers than normal.
Yes but it's still annoying 😅
I can be wrong, but i remeber it having something to do with the olympics being broadcasted in Japan at the time
Someone predicted this title in your last video's comments 😂
Oh my god Jack, you tears moved me this time more than any time, i'm with you on this one dude, this one hurted like a mf.
This part broke me even with the music 16:13
Brook is the only straw hat that has never gone against Luffy (of their own will, misunderstanding or forced).
Nami- went to Arlong
Zoro- misunderstanding
Ussop- Water 7
Sanji- here
Vivi- their argument
Chopper- when Foxy took him
Robin- Water 7
Franky- Water 7
Jinbe - Fishman Island when he didn’t want Luffy’s help.
To be fair, Franky’s was before he was a crew mate & Chopper technically didn’t act against Luffy to my memory.
Chopper is filler as far as I remember, Luffy took him back after second round in manga
uh NO, Luffy went against Zoro over that misunderstanding, not the other way around.
We can't have good times without the bad times, Jack.
yes exactly, it's like robin and usopp. sanji tried to save luffy and his friends by chasing them away but many fans don't understand that and started hating sanji by saying, "if only zoro went to whole cake island" etc
Long ass rant of someone who's pretty dumb but has always had a personal connection to Sanji's character that only proved to be way on point in this arc:
Sanji was always...
Seeing jack reacting to this since episode 1, reminds me how many times i've also cried to this show 😭
"I'm so tired of crying over this"
Us:WELL WAIT!THERES MORE!
Here's my heart Jack 💙.
This episode is so heavy, no matter how many times I watch it.
I love how brutal that beatdown was, cause it's all the more meaningful when Luffy says that despite his attacks, Sanji's the one getting hurt. The entire 'fight' is a physical representation of the pain he's going through cutting ties with his crew, his real family.
I Remember this its was a week off then this double goats episodes in the same week .
With the amount of eyecatchers you just saw in these two episodes, now you know why I want Wit to reanimate this whole damn show
Definitely one of the harder episodes to watch.
And this was a double episode special when it first aired, hence all the eye catchers.
I remember reading something about the eye-catchers being weird because the episodes were being aired as a one-hour special.
"No matter how many times you hit me, you're the one who gets hurt!!"
When Jack cries the only thing I need is to hug him... I LOVE YOU JACK ❤❤❤
I love this set of episodes, like the next maybe 10 episodes are some of the best in the series.
The wild thing about Judge's voice actor it's that it's the same as Kuma's voice actor
