Many braiders need to watch this. Most braiders I’ve used get mad when I tell them I don’t want the product used and they will say “they have to” crazy because back in the day I was getting my hair braided without all that product.
Yes in the 90’s we used grease & in the early 2000’s it was hair lotion. This jam/gel thing is new. You look fresh from the braids shop too, you did all of that boop!
You gave me the cheerleading and tips I needed to tackle braiding my own hair! Gurl, the parting almost took me out, but that was my only task day 1. I broke it up into sections and tackled a section everyday until I finished them this morning. It took me an entire week but I did it for the very first time! Knotless, waist-length braids and the first time doing extensions! Thank you Ebony! This video was so VERY helpful! 😊
Best tutorial so far because it shows how this won’t be easy! You not speeding up the parting set realistic expectations and now I am ready to do my own. This helps a lot as an aspiring gym rat cause I need these braids and this will save me money. Thank you!
I’ve been doing my own box braids for almost two years now, but I’ve always done them really small (about 190-220 on my head😅) because I know the bigger the braids, the more noticeable your parts and each individual braid is. I usually start smedium, but then it all falls apart when I go towards the front of my head and I just have a huge urge to make them small. Yours are so neat and I’m definitely gonna use this parting technique for when I do my own next month😩.
Girl yes, I really dont like the braiding gel because it holds so much lint at the base of the braids, especially around the perimeter. I would rather use a little oil or shea butter like you did. In mid May through early June I wore crochet braids. I didnt use any braiding gel on the base braids and my hair was nice an pliable upon the take down. I wore the style for 5 weeks and I couldve gone another 3 weeks but I was tired of the style. Bravo for repping the non braiding gel crew!!!
I had a hard time doing feedins on myself it just felt so awkward. Watching your video gives me the confidence to try again and I definitely need to invest in that 3 way mirror.
You did that Sis!👏🏾 I love your hair!❤ I really appreciate the way you showed the close ups of you feeding in the hair! I planning to do my hair. I bought the hair already and l have the shea butter. I am just waiting for my 3 way mirror from Amazon. I am going to be using your video for reference! I hope my hair comes out as bomb as yours did!🤗 Thanks for sharing!❤
They came out so pretty! And i know your natural hair loving that shea butter. Def going to try using shea butter or something similar for ny next set ☺️☺️
The 3 way mirror really does help! Ive struggled to find places to put it tho. Dont nobody wanna be standing up the entire time😫😂🤦🏽♀️ where do have yours hanging at?
Will not using gel work for french curl braids as well? I'm planning on doing my own hair in a few days and I absolutely hate gel, I have not one good experience with it😂
Reason why I’m here is because when I take my braids out I notice my hair would come out in clumps with white residue from the root part of the braid. And I’m about healthy hair but also wanting to wear cute styles cause I big chopped and have twa and get bored sometimes. But again im about the health of my hair and every since I big chopped I’ve been noticing what works and what doesn’t for my hair. So I’ve been wondering about never using hair gel because I notice it’s been taking my hair out in clumps and I’ve had the thought of is it the braid itself or the gel that takes out your hair?
So ultimately, your hair will shed all the hair that it didn’t shed while it was in braids, but I will say if you do have residue of products at the route while you’re taking down your hair, it can create breakage, especially if the gel hardens. So with that, I found it better to use something more of like a butter, a Shea, butter or grease like they used to do back in the day. Now using Shea, butter or grease may not work for larger parts, but I definitely recommend it for a small braids. Also, if you do decide to use gel and can’t stay away from it, you can always wash your braids before taking them down . Another tip as far as the residue that gets built up at the root of the hair you can buy the stuff it’s called pre-poo African pride has a really good one. It has aloe in it and it will break up any type of product gel hairspray. Anything that’s in your hair before even starting off the wash so you have to detangler your hair once your braids are down, but you do have to break up that product built up at the roof before even starting to wash your hair.
I don't use gel to get neat braids. It's not healthy on my hair and just causes itchiness after day 2. Hair grease and a hair lotion is it! My braids last for 6-8wks and look good to me.
Thank you for this much needed tutorial on how to do small knotless, and how much hair to feed in. I only have one question, how many packs did you use??? please
I saw your tiktok your also a hairstylist. How can you ask a Braider to not use any gel or edge control on your small knotless braids? Without her getting offended? Also do you think it last longer without it?
The gel gives a cleaner look but it can clog and irritate your scalp causing it to itch. Also some gels leave a white residue. You can probably just ask the stylist if they’re able to braid your hair without gel.
I can’t do knotless on my own head for the life of me so I do the other braids and anytime I have more than one day off I don’t braid all in one day unless I have to. My only thing is I get very impatient when I’m parting my own hair 😩😩😩
I cut my babyhairs this one time!! That was a huge mistake... Now i just braid all my hair in and whatevr baby hairs naturally are there I use....Those cut babyhairs had me looking homeless when they werent sleek
Your teaching method is great. Don’t be concerned about your vocabulary, there’s nothing wrong with it. People appreciate you just the way you are. Read your comments.❤
You are so right ! Thank you 😊
Using she's butter instead of gel, genius. Because the gel makes my hair so itchy 😂 thank you. You did so good
Omg i thought it was jst me it makes my hair soo itchy lol
Girl💯💯💯 i have low porosity hair, gel makes its drier and causes itching
Many braiders need to watch this. Most braiders I’ve used get mad when I tell them I don’t want the product used and they will say “they have to” crazy because back in the day I was getting my hair braided without all that product.
Back in the day we was using jam
@@WonderfulCoastalBeach-tm8gous these new braiding gels worse than Jam? Or is it the same ?
@@millzdealsit provides the same purpose, just a different texture.
Yes in the 90’s we used grease & in the early 2000’s it was hair lotion. This jam/gel thing is new.
You look fresh from the braids shop too, you did all of that boop!
Thank you so much
I love the fact you used shea butter only! Can we say soft neat healthy hair! With no residue.
Literally and taking it out didn’t leave my hair in clumps
You gave me the cheerleading and tips I needed to tackle braiding my own hair! Gurl, the parting almost took me out, but that was my only task day 1. You got this !!!
I was looking for a knotless tutorial that doesn't use gel. Your braids came out so cute.
Thank you 🫶🏽
Me too I feel like gel makes my hair too greasy and harder to grip I like the no gel look looks cleaner to me
Thank you for the Shea butter tip. And letting me realize I'm not patience that's why the back of my head look like a hot wheel track 😂
😂😂😂 hot wheel track took me out 😭
It takes determination and patience to do braids yourself 16:51
Yes thank you for the time stamps

This just motivated me to do small on myself, THANK YOU 😭! I do my hair my self and just don’t ever feel like taking 3 days to do my hair

This is a great video! I never know how to part the back right so there's not an awkward gap. Jealous of that 3 way mirror, lol
Been almost two years since going all natural and doing my own hair as well as starting to braid my own hair so thank you for sharing ❤

my old braider never used gel. it isnt needed.
Ikr, we never used gel growing up on our braids.
Used that grease tho
And what about using edges control for braiding? Is it nesscery?😮 Will it help with ovoiding frizzing early??

2 but 3 incase !
