One thing of concern is the leather you're using to rest the balance on. I don't know if this is true or not, but the leather (or chemicals in the leather) might react to the lighter fluid and deposit themselves on the balance and hair spring as the lighter fluid evaporates.
This is fake leather and I don’t think there are any chemicals that are getting past to the part. But I see your concern and at the microlevel maybe you’re correct.
Hi, nice video. I've been looking for a balance like the one you have, and I was wondering if it's any good, I've been told that they are total rubbish, but I need a good stand support for working on the balance.😊
Nice video sir, I'm working on a traveler's clock and the hairspring is very dirty. With what exactly does you clean it now. I have a tin can here just like you have there, mine has lighter fluid in it, UN3295 Petroleum Spirit, is that what you use too? greetings from Rotterdam
Hi, JD I hope you're keeping well. I've just purchased the same holder as yours but mine looks a bit different unless it's an elusion from the camera angle. Did you cut down any of the posts that the balance wheel sits on? My posts are nearly at the top of the pointed pin and I can see there are lots of adjustments to make them higher, even yours looks like it's screwed out a bit but yours looks a lot lower.
@@JDRichard I agree i use mine for jewel pressing in and out and I'm very happy. I so far haven't met a K&D tool I don't like. . High quality robust construction and great to handle and look at,
Can you please tell me what dollar store you got that mat from? We have many dollar stores here in NY. Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar Store, etc.....
@@JDRichard yes, the word you were looking for I believe is true/truing is the correct word meaning to bring to the exact shape or position. As in ... You are truing the screw driver. The screw driver is now true. The balance is true.
Truing is the word i believe you were searching for.
Thanx JD

I need to build a balance holder for working on the upper jewel
You mean the balance holder, correct. It’s actually not that bad with the size adjustments.

Unless your staking set has the pusher option. Which my K&D inverto staking anvil is equipped with
I have the full set as well with jeweling options and a handle. It was the best staking set they made.

Up in Canada, just called the dollar store. Perhaps Dollarama. Just look for the mats that go into drawers the bottom of the drawers.
@@JDRichard Thank you!
As some folks have stated below, the word is dressing. I may not have much time for finger cots, but I do dress my screwdrivers!
Dressing wins the prize
I disagree and will stand by my choice of word however if you wish to put dresses on your drivers i wont mock you. 🤣😉
@@khronosbest9448 Actually, we're probably both right.
