One sneaky use I have seen is the argument that powers like Bolt don't specifically say they activate at the caster and then move towards the target, so a sneaky way to use it is to have it activate near one enemy in Range and striking another enemy in range. To give the impression that they have betrayed them. Or up above a target behind cover and strike straight down at them avoiding cover but not concealment. Instead of having to deal with both
I feel like it is implied by the fact that Cover effects Bolt. As a GM, even if you wanted it to be something like Sacred Flame for your Trapping I would probably rule that the it is clear that the Power is coming to you. But your game is not my game, so run it whatever way you feel is the most fun. :D However, if you did run it your way, I would probably give the affected character a Notice Roll opposed by the Arcane Skill roll to see if they can tell or not.
@@TheSavageGoose Oh as a GM I would almost always rule they come from the caster except for the occasional rule of cool or for some very niche (this is only gonna work this one time sort of thing). That said I still appreciate the argument
Usually I didnt allow Selective in my game, simply because most things like fireball, Accid bomb and such things couldnt be so precise. Maybe some Telepathic Attack could do this, but usually I simply say it isnt allowed. Heavy Weapon is a other thing I usually didnt allow. I often give an enemy that isnt intended to be destroyed simply Heavy armor. A mage that could cast with heavy weapon modifier would made this complicated.
I have similar feelings about Selective, though I noticed after the Livestream last night that Selective isn't an option in the Fantasy Companion. Will have to compare to the core book
I hardly ever allow universal modifiers and in general I use the Powers section the same way I use the rest of the book. The Gm and players use it to build the powers for the setting. So for example Fire Bolt, with mod that allows increasing damage or splitting it. With those being the only mods that can be applied to it. Using just the generic powers with all the universal mods being open for use with any power never feels right to me.
