I’ll be honest, I kind of lost interest in this project when I thought it was just gonna be another LS swap, but this really caught my interest again with the LTX swap. I’ll be following for sure!
My research is showing that the L83 5.3L doesn't have the forged crank the LT1 does, also you can get a L8T stroker crank for cheap with 8 counter weights making a 6.2l block a 400ci...aka 6.6L.. Thinking about buying the cheapest blown l83 I can find... Then a fresh 6.2l block, the L8T crank, pistons and rods...use the misc parts from the 5.3l to flesh it out...have a nice 400ci gen 5 cammed with say a TSP VVT stage 4 cam....600 NA...
Matt just double check and check the lifters on the 5.3 Why change minds on a 2015 Chevy suburban LTZ with the 5.3 v8 so I changed whole head block and all 8 lifters
Nice score Matt 😎 . Just out of curiosity what are you doing with the old engine outta the car? 🤔 . Here in the Boise ID. area LT1's are cheap compared to LS's
LsxMatt gotcha! Justice Brothers makes a carbon clean out kit that sprays stuff in through the throttle body, I watched literal chunks of black come out of my exhaust pipe. Car had 223k miles. It improved my idle, and I got 4 more MPG. I think it’s worth it, you might want to check it out.
LsxMatt It comes in 4 bottles, two get sprayed through the intake and one goes into the oil and the other into the gas tank. The nozzle kit for spraying it is pretty expensive at $100, but it’s worth it in the end if you have a lot of vehicles. I did it at a shop I work at so we have the nozzle and the kits on hand for high mileage vehicles.
Before I'd out that new engine in, I'd change the front and rear main seals. I had a 1995 Camaro Z28 with the LT1 engine and it was leaking badly from the oil pressure sensor which sits behind the engine. At first I thought it was the rear main seal but it turned out to be the oil pressure sensor. It was an engine out job to replace and a bitch to deal with. Rather do all that before you out it in my friend 😉
Very reliable @PolarTies . I own a 2006 suburban with 208,000 miles. She's had a couple of issues like 2 window regulators go out and a oil pressure sensor but these are small things. Check out the wizard on youtube. He talks about everything that goes wrong. I love my truck and im going to soon be modding her once i fix some suspension noise shes making.
double check every thing i would pressure test it just to make sure the head gaskets are ok. plus while it is out do the front and rear main seals with the valve cover gaskets. just to make sure those are not going to leak. it is a good foundation for what your doing. plus that 350 sitting off to the side will give you a chance to do what you want to it.
Building a 383 for my 83 Trans Am with Aluminium heads and a Renegade manifold as im going to try and keep the standard crossfire injection look. Love these video's Matt, keep em' coming.
I come from Germany and miss the very good videos of the Tahoe. I love these cars. I drive a 01 Tahoe in dark red? I do do not know the name of my car color.I like your videos.
Funny, I was watching your old a/c video to refresh my memory and got the notification for this video lol. Interesting call on the gen 5. My 4.8 is pretty much ready to go just hanging out on the engine stand. Old 305 is in the process of coming out, this weekend got it torn down to the long block and drained the fuel tank. Next weekend hoping to get the driveshaft and torque arm out so I can get ready to yank that T5 out.
Hey Matt enjoy your videos. I happen to have a 1987 Trans Am as well as a 02 Tahoe. Used to have a 90 Camaro RS a few years back as well. Keep up the good work!!!
Great plan Matt, can't wait to see the result, this will be helpful for guys wanting to build reliable street cars. Of course, I mean before its boosted :)
Definitely change the lifters and remove the vlom, it will make your life so much easier, I work at a Chevy dealer and we see a lot of these for cam and lifter or just lifters
It really just comes down to weight savings and ease of installation. A 60e will use a stock length driveshaft, give me little extra room under the car for exhaust, and let me mount the torque arm to it.
So I see you're keeping the AFM/VVT for now. Are you also going to keep it flex fuel capable also? E85 and boost would be a nice combo if you have E85 stations in the area. Also how do you think you will do the fuel system for the direct injection setup? Curious what type of fuel pump you'll need to feed the DI pump on the engine. Really can't wait to see you do this swap. I think this is going to be a really awesome series getting the engine in the car and up running.
I’m planning on running regular twin pumps with a return. The di system doesnt have a return so the pcm controls the pump. Adding a return will allow me to run a regular fuel pump to the di rail.
You should consider measuring the weight bias in the car before and after the swap. I'm interested to see if this makes the car more nose heavy or less. Also, do you plan on keeping the stock gauges and dash?
I'm doing ls swap in my s10 and the l33 is 50-100 heavier then the 4.3, the cast iron is 150+ heavier, so if I'm gonna take an educated guess, the aluminum motor should be less then the 305
Use a 2004r, it has better gear ratios and can be built to be stronger. Small differences that may be irrelevant though, and a 700r4 should be fine for most
I sure hope so, we'll have to see what the n/a setup comes out to first. When the turbos come along I'll definitely want a cam, top end, and pistons/rods so that will drive up the cost a lot. I'm also not sure if I can keep the truck accessories, so yea thats more money...
@@lsxmatt If you can maybe keep a running tab for guys who might want to do a similar setup. This motor would be perfect for the Tahoe. Get a BTR Stage 3 cam, some beehive springs! Did that to my Tahoe--ran great. I think if you're gonna turbo it the stock internals should be ok, as long as you keep the boost to a reasonable number.
You have a Tahoe and you still needed a trailer? I once had a 302+AOD in the trunk of my Volvo wagon :D Just throw a tarp and a strap in there, it's fineee.
You were in my backyard pretty much. Nice junkyard to find plentiful GM stuff. Good luck with the motor and upgrades. Looking forward to great content. 🔧😼🔧
That 350 should be out of the trans am very soon. Can’t wait for this swap!
Can't wait either! Your channel has gotten me back in the garage working on my 91 RS.
Thats awesome
I'm paying close attention we've got an 86 ta with no idea what to do with yet!
Awesome
Too bad you didn't have a meet, I live in Wolcott ct, next door to Terryville ct.
I’ll be honest, I kind of lost interest in this project when I thought it was just gonna be another LS swap, but this really caught my interest again with the LTX swap. I’ll be following for sure!
Good luck man Many miles of smiles
Yeaaa Gen V!! Good stuff Matt. Looking forward to the build
Liked how you passed by a trailer that said "Trans Am" on it!! 🤣😎👍🦅

😳 700R4 Transmission ? Not holding my breath this time 😂
Matt just double check and check the lifters on the 5.3 Why change minds on a 2015 Chevy suburban LTZ with the 5.3 v8 so I changed whole head block and all 8 lifters
Terryville Auto I live right down the st. Merritt parkway to rte 8 looked like.
Having your camera facing backwards on the drive was doing my head in!! Lol
Nice score Matt 😎 . Just out of curiosity what are you doing with the old engine outta the car? 🤔 . Here in the Boise ID. area LT1's are cheap compared to LS's
Are you building the Camaros old 5.3 for the Yukon?
i was hoping to see some more 350 hop-ups but this will be good too.
What is the first song played in vid? On your way to pu the engine. Thx
Matt do you have any extra single fan and shroud you are selling?
Look forward to the project 👍
That's one beautiful car...
That will be fun, I cant wait for the swap videos
Fuck yeah LT style lets go!
Got one of these from work for 100 bucks. Maybe I should do something with it
You should have put in a 454 big block
And boost it
Didn’t know you ran your truck on premium any reasons why, if so any gains?
It pings under heavy load, pretty sure there’s a bunch of carbon on the pistons.
@@lsxmatt ok cool thank you I figured it was something to do with the miles
Are you ditching all the DOD/AFM stuff before you drop it in?
Probably not. The motor’s gonna come back out for rods and pistons next year so I’ll do the cam then and delete it.
why not use the 6L80E? Better fuel economy and quicker gear ratios
Its a reallllly tight fit. Trans tunnel needs to be raised and its more work that I really need out of the car.
Big blocks fit in mount s are the same
If I ever do mine again I am
7.5 l 454
Disappointed that the next episode and install isn't up yet lol
I’m jumping into this quick. Next episode we pull the motor
Sounds good 👍🏼
Why put 93 in the Tahoe
It pings a little under heavy load. I’m thinking it could be some carbon build up due to the mileage, but it only does it under wot.
Calvin Brewster awesome just what I was looking for thanks!

Is this a 6.2 engine
5.3
You sold out to the LS again! Lol. Please be a detailed as possible when swapping. Using HP Tuners? Gauges? Give us the low down.
Bore it out to 8.0 ;)
?????
Haha matt said stock motor. 😂🤣( like this comment if you know he never does anything stock)
My firebird engine was leaking from the rear main seal also. End up selling the car and got a Mustang GT.
wow wasting money on 93 in a Tahoe must be nice to just waste money
Junk yard LS 300 bucks
I like the 80's themed music.

Was looking for to more 350 content 😕 oh well
How reliable are Chevy Tahoes, suburbans I am looking to buy either one preferably a suburban. I am also wondering how reliable is the Toyota sequoia.

@@msia40004 Thanks I am looking at a 2011 one with about 150k or so miles I hope it will be a good purchase.
Nice, I should be getting my LT1 by Saturday, thanks for sharing.
Is it bad when you’ve been to the junkyards enough to recognize where that is
Its What Holley dont tell you before you buy!!
Everybody will gripe about lack of creativity, but it's a GM car and the weight and HP make it a perfect choice IMO

My first video was when you cleaned up the engine bay and repainted it... I'm a fan I subscribed
Great engine choice, that TransAm should be very torquey
What is your plan for the accessories and mounts?
You should delete the DOD system
😳 305/350 L98 ? Suspense!
So it's a Lt and not a Ls
Built 4l60. ?

Love watching the incredible motivation brotha..

Hey, Matt. What kind of MPG do you get out of the Tahoe? I’m averaging 15 highway with 33s/no lift on mine.
Cant wait to watch this build!! I enjoy your videos and very educational!
Haha hell yeah I'm pumped!
Dammm this been your shortest video ever 😅
I’m exited to see what’s next
3:56-4:00 That oil filter looks like a crushed beer can!!
Sounds like a good idea I’m looking forward to it!
This is becoming my favorite channel😂
Hell yeah badass can’t wait till u get the TA going
Did you go with Bobs auto machine?
Notification squad
the 6l90 and 6l80 fit in these cars if that's your big thing, check out my older videos

What your plan for power steering? Those motor don’t have the pump do they?
Might go with a holley accessory drive, if not there is a retrofit pump and bracket available.
what was the name of the wrecking yard you got it from?
I believe it was terryville auto wreckers
