I own both of them the 226 Legion and the 229 Legion, the 226 is better for accuracy than the 229. The grip is more comfortable on the 226 for me than the 229. The 229 is smaller and lighter so could be better for open carry or concealed carry. I also feel I have less kick and more control using the 226 than the 229. Hope this helped to make a good decision on which one to get.

Yoyi M- Thanks! I just bought a Sig p226, not knowing they made a 229. IS THE 229 GRIP FATTER? After I found out they made a "shorter 226" I took my 226 to the store and compared them and the 229 grip did feel slightly different but I couldn't figure out exactly why. I thought I might sell my 226 and buy the 229 because that would make a better carry pistol with the shorted slide & barrel and it would be easier and faster to clear the top of the holster. What do you think? Which model do you carry and shoot more? Can you tell which one has more muzzle rise/flip? Theyrew both great guns and either way Im glad I found them. They're like a working man's reliable 1911 that holds more rounds than a revolver lol
      Thanks!

The 229 is a double-stack magazine so the grip thickness is a little bit thicker than a P226. I would definitely carry the P229 over the P226 because the 229 is smaller and it's easier to carry and feels better on your waist. My P226 is my bedside fire arm it has a 20 round mag and a Streamlight TLR-1HL flashlight.

And yes the 229 does have a little bit more kick to it than the 226. I feel like the 229 flips more then the 226. I enjoy shooting the 226 more then the 229. The 226 is easier to handle the grip feels a little bit better it's not as thick and I seem to have better accuracy with the 226.

It’s a great all around pistol ruclips.net/user/postUgkxnX9wE_Q8zvF75Y5iWzTU3Q4FlrtyGApQ , doesn’t fit in plastic glock 19 holsters but will fit in some non plastic ones. The location of the safety isn’t very good because your finger will accidentally activate it but it can easily be removed by pulling on both sides at once. Don’t lose the red o-rings while doing that.

    I LOVE the SIG P226 and P229!
My original W German P226 in 9mm and original P229 in .357 sig are the ONLY two pistols ive ever owned that NEVER malfunctioned.
    Not once!
And they were easily the most accurate pistols in my collection.
My P226 could group 5-rds into .9 to 1.1" at 25 yds with its preferred load although 1.5" was all but guaranteed.
The P229 wasnt far behind with 1.3" to 1.6" groups.
    Amazing pistols, both of them!

Thanks for the great vid. I have a P226 Legion and a P225 Single stack. The 225's slide lock is easy to access but when I upgraded to the 226 the slide lock was very difficult to lock open and I could not use it to release the slide. I went to a gunsmith and he welded an extension on and ground out the grip a little and it worked fine. I used it at a Strategos security workshop and had no malfunctions in 600 rounds. Now I'm wondering about the 229 for easier concealed carry. Thanks for the informative video.

My P226 RX with Grayguns flat trigger & 19# mainspring has been great, very accurate and reliable . The flat trigger helps me index the DA trigger pull, because it breaks at 90 degrees. I've been shooting it at my local club as a Carry Optics IDPA gun. The Grayguns HD aluminum base plate pads work well for the stock and Met-gar mags. Now I am trying to decide between the P229 and the P225 A1. Like the size of the 225, but like the capacity and available RX on the 229.
Hope to get both on the rental range soon, as the local range normally has good selection (last trip I rented Sig P210, CZ Target Sport Orange, and a Wilson Combat custom!).
    Cheers

According to the spec sheet in DA mode it has a 12.12 lb trigger pull. In DA mode it's 4.4 pounds.

I have a question. I bought the P226 Legion, it's my first Sig and I didn't know they made the 229. I bought the 226 for a carry pistol and I like the accuracy of the full length barrel. My question is, would it be worth it to buy the 229 in order to get a shorter slide and barrel, or do you consider the difference in length between them to not be enough to be a factor? I just thought a shorter barrel would be an easier, shorter draw from a holster and faster to clear the top of the holster before you could bring the pistol up to shoot. Thanks!

Unless Sig changed something on the Legion models, the P226 mags can be used in P229, but the P229 mags won’t go into battery on the P226 as the grip blocks the magazine from fully seating. At least that is the way mine work.

Question! So I’m looking on the market for another P226 since I’ve sold my last MK25TB and I wanted to try a different variant since im gonna be spending a decent bill for one. I was looking at the P226 TACOPS and the P226 Legion DASA. I want to make sure I get the most combat efficient model and I understand that yes they are both practically the same gun. But I’ve heard that since the legion is built more tightly, would it have a higher chance of malfunctioning if dirt or whatever gets inside of it over the less tightly fitted tacops. For example MACs channel he ran the legion and it totally choked and I do understand that not all legions would choke like his. So what’s your experience and take on the legion being combat reliable?

I wanted the 226 SAO really bad until I went to Shot Show 2016 and handled one. IMHO the reduced size controls on the SAO are simply too small and I found it very uncomfortable, and almost not tactically sound, having the half size thumb safety as my thumbs had trouble staying perched on them. I also found it very difficult to engage the thumb safety after disengaging it, my thumbs slipped off them trying to push it up. Now this may all smooth out with use, but brand new it was a pain. The trigger on the SAO is AMAZING though!

Excuse me, You cannot get 15 rounds in the magazine. I just got P229 so far so good, but cannot get 15 rounds only 14 in all the 3 imagines that came with it. Anyone have this problem and what is the cure for this???

    • @peterrussell798

Load the mag to 14 and let it sit for a week. My 229’s mags when brand new were a challenge to get the 15th round loaded. Or buy a speed loader and let it do the work instead of your thumbs.

I have a question. I have read many complain about the PVD finish not covering every inch of the gun, uneven coat, wears off easy, bare aluminum thus exposing the aluminum to excessive wear. I even heard frames cracking. I dont' think it would be a problem with 9mm but in .357 Sig I think the frame could be suseptable to crakcing

Steve; Iam just after super "accuracy" thats all. If you look at the "Big Picture" they really did nothing to address that issue. Trigger, night sights, grip, finish and coating, stainless steel guide rod are all "great" but they missed the "Big Picture" in my "humble opinion". Just for the record I have "on order" a P229 "Legion" in the 357 sig version from Cablelas. So Iam NOT bashing Sig just trying to make a good suggestion for them.

    • @podmonkey2501

+Chuck P The X5 and X6 pistols. They are (I belive) hand fit limited production pistols. They have target oriented features such as extended slides and barrels (5 and 6") SAO triggers with the SIG shop trigger work done, adjustable overtravel, adjustable micrometer sights, barrel weights, all that kinda stuff.
