CONVERGENCE IS UPON US!
THE RIFT BETWEEN GUN JESUS AND TANK JESUS IS SHRINKING!
PRAISE THE BOFORS FOR THIS HOLY EVENT!
Hail Bofors AB for facilitating this great event.
I'd like to note that Tank Jesus himself prophesied this over on Gun Jesus's video.
The_Chieftain:
"I think we have discovered where Ian and my areas of responsibility overlap...."
-The 25th of August, a day that will forever live in infamy.
I think plane Jesus is Bismark from Military Aviation History
Now all we need is RIA to start auctioning aircraft...
Love the "1941" Dan Aykroyd homage
Oh noes, next thing I know he's gonna shoot me down...
If Bo doesn't shoot your tail fin off first.
I thought he just needs to scare you off?
+Baron Von Grijffenbourg - We REALLY need a video by that name.
You got approximately 69cm*π of your aircraft's starboard side lift generating surface removed!!!
"You got a hole in your left wing!"
A Gun Jesus reference made by Tank Jesus himself, my life is complete.
Edward John Abaring well, they literally are talking about the same gun around the same time. They must have met at the auction house this time
Is there a plane Jesus?
Yes look up Military Aviation History.
@@joeylarose2452 what has Hickok to do with tanks, lol.
Hahaha!
GUN JESUS AND TANK JESUS* CROSSOVER / COLLABORATION NOW!
2:40 - Tank Jesus* references Gun Jesus.
Is this proof that the prophecy will be fulfilled?
No joke though, I would LOVE Nick and Ian to get together and make a video. Or video series? ;)
*Military Vehicles & Weapons Jesus
Would be great if they could make something like that happen, yeah :)
Give it time maybe? I know they weren't around at the same time when they made these videos.
Hopefully sooner rather than later
I was literally thinking about that too, i watched the Gun Jesus Bofors video some 3 days ago :)
Yes it would be awesome, they could talk about US military equipment doctrine for example. Ian talks about small arms and Chieftain about Armoured and Mechanized equipment.
You made a slight mistake when talking about the ejection mechanism. The shells don't just get redirected, they go "Zweeeee!"
Is this a subtle Gun Jesus reference I see before me?
*CORRECT*
What? No, "Oh bugger, the gun's on fire"?
if that thing ends up on fire I'd be looking at it very silly
If that thing is on fire you're probably what's on fire.
Would have been funny. Him just sitting there "ohh no the gun is on fire" *steps off* " that was easy
Even funnier is if he spent the next minute or two trying to find the hatch to get out.
He said "w00t", what more do you want? :P
Lawn armaments is not wrong
My gnomes are also lawn armaments.
No home is complete without a lawn armament
can never not be too safe in times like these... everyone should have an AA emplacement in their yard xD
I used to work on the USS Pampanito docked in San Francisco. We would play with the 40mm, training it on the tourist helicopters that took of and landed on the adjacent pier. it's very easy to elevate and traverse and the look on folks faces as they flew past was priceless.
Having your own 40mm...Means never having to ask the neighbor to keep the noise down.
Because you'll be deaf anyways :P
Who would win in a fight Lindybeige or the Chieftain?... na it would be a crossover episode were it would be a 3h podcast.
Bofors- Company of heroes 2
Well presumably Lindybeige would go old school and turn up full of dreams of chivalry and knights of yore with a sword and his suit of armour, whereas The Chieftain would presumably just stick to the tried and tested army mantra of "keep it simple, stupid" by rolling up in his Abrams tank. :D
They did a crossover on the Churchill tank
Ummm .... I guess that depends. I want to see a video where Nick is driving a tank, while Ian is the gunner with Karl as his loader, and Loyd is the commander in the cupola with a longsword yelling drive me closer!!!
@@MrTheDridge 10/10 would watch this video.
That safety "don't do this exact thing to fire this gun" brief made me think of those wine-o kits from Prohibition that gave explicit instruction on everything that you "should never do" with the ingredients within them to make wine. I love it.
He's quoting a scene from the film 1941 :P
@@Pershingtank correct
Did you find an "Ian was here" on the gun, Nick?
Most likely not, but I'm sure there's a "Kilroy was here." somewhere on the gun.
Just what I was thinking.
Instead of a figure with a big nose hanging over a wall there was a figure with long locks of hair hanging over.
*Triggered*
Who's the dude at the desk in the background?
@The_Chieftain nice 1941 reference :D
HOLLYWOOD!!!!!
isn't this the same gun Forgotten Weapons did a video on? (also; cheers on making these videos :) ) edit: should have watched the entire video first. my bad >
It is.
Forgotten Ian
I just saw the Forgotten Weapons episode on this same gun. (Oh and Gun Jesus, that's the funniest thing I've heard all week)
Yeah me too
It is not new. People have called Ian Gun Jesus for years.
@@PieterBreda first I've heard of it though
ruclips.net/video/sI3x30iamHc/видео.html it all started here
Nope, it all started offline, on a range he was attending, long ago. He said that in one of InRange's Q'n'A's.
Ode to 1941 (movie) ... nice
Wonder how many caught that?
@@wilsonj4705 I did, hilarious!
@@wilsonj4705 Not many.. They ask think its a reference to the "Forgotten Weapons" guy who also looked at this gun.
Trying to find the scene on youtube but so far all I can find is a video that starts immediately after the loading scene.
ruclips.net/video/ZpGHqCqkfjE/видео.htmlm48s , here you go. ;)
That warning plate is indeed Norwegian. It reads "Don't touch the lock when the wheels are clear of the ground"
In Norwegian service it was known as "KANON, LV 40mm L60 US M1". The L70 was also used.
Translation of plate seen at 2 min 38 sec: "Do not touch lock when wheels are clear of ground."
And - that's undoubtedly Norwegian. We had a Lot of those in LLA batteries. (Lett Luftvern Artilleri)
Inside the Chieftain's AA emplacement
Lemmy out of Motorhead had one of these in his back garden when he was living in London. He had a load of unsold records acting as sandbags around it and would sit there in his German helmet reading the paper of a morning.
As you do when you are a rockstar
As you do when you are a legend with an interest in WW2 stuff =)
The same "do not" operating instructions was read in the movie '1941', and the gun was in the backyard.
One of Dan Aykroyds finest roles.
Actually both the Forgotten Weapons and this video out back to back makes for some very interesting takes on the same subject and how each person approaches something an object. I honestly learned something from each on this Bofors.
For when you get sick of the neighbors drone flying..
Or the whole neighbourhood in general^^
I wonder how many different items in the US military are called "M1"
Surely at some point somebody must have mentioned that it is silly to give so many things the same name?
and in sweden m90
You should have done a collaboration with Ian, he talked about that a couple of days ago. You should have met and made a video together!
Ian's vid was made public a couple of days ago, it was probably made well before then. As I bet this vid was.
Nick mentioned on Twitter I think that he missed Gun Jesus by a few days
Chieftain mentioned the term gun jesus, praise the lord
The plate shown are Norweigian. Being a Swede, and fairly fluent in Norwegian, I can say that with upmost confidence.
What does it say on the plate?
Børk languages are still børk.
Am Norwegian, can confirm. "Do not touch lock when wheels are clear of ground."
@@Kargush yup, thats what I see.
Oh yes, "upmost". Sort of like "utmost" - but meaning something else...
Hi Ian, o wait....lol
lol
God I love that 1941 movie reference!!😂😂
"Significant emotional event." Yeah, that's one way of putting it.
A 40mm Bofors should sweep neighborhood skies clear of "voyeur drones." As for ground targets, no drive-by shootings...ever! (Most gang banger wheels can't stand up to 40mm rounds of any kind.;) As for pesky news/paparazzi helicopters. aircraft, just crank the Bofors into "ready to fire" position and watch "those pesky mosquitoes" fly away toot suite.
Great “1941” reference!
“Did I get him?”
“Close, Herb, close.”
Gun Jesus and Tank Apostle. Now all we need is a holy book with the writings of Browning, Kalashnikov, and Mauser.
Browning, Kalashnikov, Mauser and Lee.
I strongly suspect he knows Ian was there guys. We get it.
That text at 02:39 is Norwegian in deed.
And nice to hear you say Bofors, not Bofurs/Bofers as Gun Jesus Ian did..
But it’s wrong! Google it
anyone else notice the guy in the background? looks like he was knitting
I like how he says "emotional event" aka SHIT YOUR PANTS when shooting sideways.
Gun Jesus says it’s Swedish made, Cheftain says it’s American made but doesn’t understand why labels are in Swedish(Norwegian). So where was it made?
Next you'll be extolling the virtues of Wild Bill Kelso.
Love your Dan Aykroyd impression!!
I have head that operation speech before! Dan Aykroyd gave the exact same speech in the movie 1941! The gun in Ned Beaty's front yard even has the same sights.
Wonder if I could cover ammo costs by driving around and eradicating feral hogs in Texas with this?
Wonderful gun. There's film of them being manufactured by Chrysler during the war. I heard somewhere that when the Air Force decided to mount Bofors guns on AC-130 gunships they had a hard time finding guns and spare parts. Odd, considering how many were produced. They wound up salvaging guns from M42 Dusters which were being used as live fire targets on an aircraft gunnery range.
reminds me of the development of the first modern Gatling gun around the time of the Korean War. The developers borrowed and old Gatling gun from the Smithsonian, acquired correct ammo and rigged an electric motor and feed system and fired about 2000 rounds a minute.
I wonder just what they told the Smithsonian before and after said event? Oh we just wanted to try an upgrade with an electric motor. Pretty sure Mr Gatling would approve of the upgrade.
Odd, they could have just bought the L/70 version from Sweden, they are fairly cheap and spares are still produced.
Good video ! Better a lawn armament than an ornamemt (sp). I want to shoot back when the gnomes & pink plastic birds invade .
Qiestion: could you hunt down an M247 seargent York tank? Would be fun to see a review of maybe the worst self propelled anti aircraft gun ever.
A soldier can sit on an M1 mounted on an M1, wearing an M1 armed with an M1.
Picture of an Irish Army L70 used to show case ejection
Isn't this the same shed that Ian (forgotten weapons) reviewed this same gun?
Nice reference to the movie "1941", lol
Imagine if someone modded this 40mm for paintballing!
PBP:DUDE COVER ME!
40MMPBP:OK! PEW!PEW!PEW!PEW!
I was so waiting for the 1941 reference... going home happy
40mm Bofors are still in US inventory with the Air Force on the AC-130 gunships.
2 of my favorite military history youtubers do separate videos on the same gun. You two need to collaborate on something!
A Swedish gun soo good both world powers wanted to bang it.
I'm loving the variety of equipment you've been reviewing.
Next week: Inside the Chieftain's Hatch: 1943 Army Issue Mess Kit.
Nice 1941 Reference
Too bad most of these young whipper snappers will not get it.
The next towed gun. Flak 88 XD
Why would you need it? In case the US Army designated your sea side home as a coastal artillery installation. But who did the better job of explaining the weapon? The Chieftain or Dan Aykrod?
The fuck is Dan? The real duel is between chieftain and Jesus.
He was referring to Dan Ackroyd character in the movie 1941.
The US doesnt use 40mm bofors you said ?
Looks in the air sees a AC130 . Oi chap what are those gunns pointing ot of it well Bob its seems to be 2 40mm L/60 Bofors guns
Thats airforce... not army..
Still is a part of the US armed forces
Coming up next on "Top 10 Anime Crossovers" - Gun Jesus meets Tank Jesus!
Love the "1941" film reference! =)
U.K: "We build our guns specifically to specification."
U.S: "no"
I think lawn armaments sound much better than lawn ornaments. Never have another solicitor again!
The CV9040 have this gun as maingun
My dad operated the trigger and elevation of a 40mm Bofors from the bow of LSM 46 while beached on Red Beach at Iwo Jima. They were being heavily shelled at the time that they were ordered to put some rounds into a few of the Japanese positions on Mount Suribachi. Quite effective at that short range. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the 1941 movie reference. The funniest part imo.
Is the Chieftain being held captive at Rock Island arsenal? He's been there a couple days.
It's more likely that Ian entrenched himself in the viewing hall and won't come out until he's touched every part of every gun ;)
@@SonsOfLorgar Oh true, we may not see him for a while. Maybe he's looking for one to bring home, I mean, he seemed interested in that M3 scout car.
Yes, but he's very comfortable.
@@RockIslandAuctionCompany Oh, thank goodness. Keep giving him new vehicles to play with so he doesn't get any ideas on taking any back with him.
Dam kids get off my lawn!!!
Oh Bugger, my lawn is on fire.
Man, gopher season with one of these would be craaaaazy! lol
But how do I adjust the track tension😁?
Ehm...the 40mm is still in US service... AC-130 anybody? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_AC-130
Oh Bugger, Ian fired this gun already!
1 thing I always wondered is. This thing was up for sale in 1931. Almost everyone had it during ww2 but they only decided to add it to tank over a generation after the war. This with ap rounds that could be scary vs 80% of the tanks used in ww2 head-on. According to what I heard they had ap rounds and it could punch in around 50mm of armor which is basically everything the Germans had when invading France. Not to mention how effective distance fuse rounds would be vs infantry behind cover.
How TF did he pronounce Bofors!?! He makes it sound like it's from France. (No offence to French people)
Gun Jesus pronounced it correctly.
Seemingly, the Americans like really confusing all their naming systems.
"Oh bugger, planes up, bring up the M2!"
*M2 medium tank arrives!*
"We've got some injured men here, bring up the M37!"
*An M37 Howitzer Motor Carriage appears!*
"I meant the ambulance damn it! Okay, bring up the M43!"
*M43 Howitzer Motor Carriage appears!*
"I.. I meant the ambulance.."
Those not in the know, also checkout @forgottenweapons youtube channel for a video on literally the same gun.
Did my service in Sweden 1985, we still used the 40/36 as it’s called in Sweden, mainly for sea targets, we had the 40/48 system for the anti-aircraft.
You can change barrel with 3 men.
The powered ones are called 40/48, not the same gun.
My grandpa was on one of these with 103rd AAA (AW), part of 1st ID. I'm doing research on his service and the unit in general. Thank you for the knowledge.
When a poster with 86K Subscribers calls another poster by his Internet assigned Nickname . . . sweeeeeet. Nick-you rock. I'll bet Ian appreciates the plug.
Pink Flamingos? One of the absolute worst films EVER!
There are 626 comments before the one I'm writing right now, so I haven't checked if this has been comnented earlier, but.. The signs on that gun isn't in Swedish, but most probably in Norwegian. That _might_ be a clue with regards to the providence of this particular gun. (Translated the sign in the video says "Do not touch the locks when the wheels are clear of the ground".)
David Fletcher would’ve talked about the suspension for 15 mins....shame on you Chieftain.
Thanks, Chieftan... Laughed my arse off with the 1941 movie reference.
The chieftain, Ian, and David Fletcher should team up.
When I was in the Air Force 1984-1988 the AC 130 gunships had a 40mm I am not sure what year they got rid of them.
Amazingly these systems (in modernised powered form) are providing good service in Ukraine against Shaheed drones utilising VT fuses. The KA52 Alligator helicopters would not survive the penetrator 40mm rounds as they are designed to withstand up to 30mm but the necessary rate of fire to effect a minimum of three strikes cannot be attained outside of stationary targeting. Good to now civilians in Kyiv under Shaheed attack can be protected like Londoners under V1 attack
I like "Lawn Armaments" it's pithy.
Presumably when used in place of a gnome it's b'zugda-hasfak (literally "Lawn Axe").
Yup. Sergeant Andersson (aka yours truly) worked on an updated version of this one, with electric servo pointing system. And yes, fine for aircraft, and an APC is just another aircraft at zero elevation. Ka-BOOM. Four shells per second. BOOM BOOM BOOM bOOM.
You and Ian mesh nicely on these. Different interests and expertise lead to a more complete picture, even with minor differences in "take."
Eugenio Jacinto Bofors must have race 10 fortunes selling that cannon... And you guys (Nick and Ian) are wasting money and time... The next gun you both make a review of, share the camera! No guys, really, we all love to see a video with gun and tank jesus... Honestly, how cool would that be...
Everybody is commenting about the gun jesus referrence, but where are the people commenting about the 1941 referrence?
@The_Chieftain
The 40mm L-60 Bofors in Hungarian service during ww2 had a different default aiming system. And I am wondering if that was the semi-computerized one I heard about in your or Ian's video.
I was wondering if you have any information about this aiming device. If you know something than i would be happy if you could share it or point me in the right direction.
here is a link showcasing the Hungarian version:

All you folks talking about how he referenced "Gun Jesus"...
You do realize that both of them were referencing the movie "1941", right?
One of our local VFW posts has the Navy version in front of their building....Of course another one has an M48A3 in front of theirs.....Living in the Aberdeen, MD area can be interesting.
This might sound weird, but I feel I've seen this already. But, like, not with Chieftain, but... almost like someone else, who doesn't actually even cover heavy weapons, that's the thing... it's like deja vu, but it can't be. I think I'm going to lie down for a bit, before this Multiverse stuff starts preying on my mind.
Me: Ah, yes the Legendary Bofors!
Sailor: uh... but its not on a ship-
Me: The whole damn *earth* IS THE *SHIP!*
Too bad there was"t a hundred of these around Pearl Harbor and Hickam Field on December 7,1941; fully staffed at 7:55AM.
OMG! I 've seen this twice before, and just realized you were quoting the movie "1941"! 🤣
